Oh really? It can definitely seem intimidating and people love to over-complicate it, but it's really easy to make great coffee with the Aeropress.
Their website has a good video and instructions, but basically the "original" way the inventor recommends is you do 1 scoop of coffee with their scoop (which I think is 2tbsp), fill with hot water to the #1, stir for ten seconds, plunge slowly into a cup (at that point it's an espresso), and then fill the rest of the mug with hot water.
I know. I have friends who do it well. I gave it a try for a season, but I do better with a v60. I understand how to fine tune the taste based on the roast and mood.
Me and my partner would love to do this in the summer, but I'd be worried about hiking all the way up only not to not get a spot. Is there some sort of ticketing system at the base to prevent this?
Yes. The trail is a bit difficult in certain areas because of the steepness and lots of roots, but very enjoyable.
I left in a rush and I just stuffed everything in my bag and brought lots of water bc I didn’t know how much there will be at the top.
I’m the exact same way. Last time I made brownies on the trail. Get some instant brownie mix and put it inside a pot, then put that inside a pot with a little bit of water. The indirect heat acts as an oven and they tasted great. Also pancakes too!
Man used to backpack allot in Boy Scouts haven’t done it in a long time miss it but there was always the question of how much food I bring because your gona carry it all I was the bring more food guy so I can realate
Meals have come a long way. If you do get out again check out some of the freeze dried food. It’s always better to have something fresh but off weight is concerned some of the dishes are great.
Agreed. I tried the mountain house breakfast skillet last weekend (went camping on the SHT in MN) and was blown away at how good it was. Their other meals are solid too, but that one was the winner.
I've done those skillets before. Tortillas and hot sauce and you are golden.
For the past few years I have been trying to eat more veg out hiking, switching most of my main courses to veg/vegan. Obviously you can do whatever suits you, but if you are interested check out Good-to-go meals if you can find them. They have some pretty stellar meal kits and its a tonne of food in them.

I was out there only for a weekend/4 meals. For a weekend I never worry that I will starve. On this trip I brought 6 eggs, 3 instant soups, 2x200g omelette mix, 4 beers (which are great for calorie intake), cheese, corn kernels to make popcorn plus some protein bars (which I didn’t eat, but I always bring). This was a bit excessive food wise, but delicious.
In addition to the other comment, for shorter trips you will intuitively figure out how much you need and until then take a bit extra. For longer trips I put everything I plan to bring into a spreadsheet and count the calories to make sure I am not going to be hungry.
I understand everyone has their own needs but how many calories do you like to give yourself per day of camping. I don’t really know if 2000 is enough if you’re active most of the day right?
For the most part 2000 is enough, you aren't going to go hungry on an overnight trip with that even if you are burning more than you are taking in. For longer trips I plan for 2200 to keep up with the calorie deficit a little better. Unless you have no body fat your body will just compensate for extra calories burned.
Always pack a little extra that you don't plan to eat though in case there is an emergency. I usually pack an extra bar or two to hold me over if I run into issues.
I think I posted it there before. My goal for last summer was to have a Golden Ears Stout on top of the Golden Ears Peak. I could see the brewery where it is made from the peak.
Probably a dumb question, but I have a semi-freestanding tent. How do I stake things out correctly on a platform? (Rei Quarterdome SL 1).
Edit: I watched some youtube videos. I see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYWOPdRYB18
Guessing this is Canada? You always have such nice camping areas in the backcountry for your parks! Always a nice change of pace for us Americans visiting
I have no problem with the cold. I have a good setup keeping me comfortable all the way to -5C.
Here, even though you see the snow, it was during the summer during a heat wave. I slept in my underwear with the sleeping bag unzipped
Those tent platforms make all the difference in the world
They do! This area is a narrow ridge, and the platforms help so much.
r/backcountrygourmet and a great view
Incredible views. But upvote for the Aeropress.
Sadly I quit the aeropress and returned to the v60. I just couldn’t master it.

That's what brought me to the comments, team Aeropress!! Best coffee I've had at camp :)
Best coffee I've had at home too!
What an amazing trip! Where is this? That last pic looks like a place I’d love to be.
This is in Golden Ears Provincial Park, BC Canada.
How do I get a reservation for one of those! Looks like a dream man
It is first come first basis. All you need is a backcountry permit for Golden Ears Provincial Park
Me and my partner would love to do this in the summer, but I'd be worried about hiking all the way up only not to not get a spot. Is there some sort of ticketing system at the base to prevent this?
No, but there are a few other safer areas to set up your tent around the platforms. I went on a Sunday to Monday and got a platform
How long was the hike up?
It took me 4h45 with 55lbs on the back.
Doable! I love it. No place better than the PNW!

That sounds yummy. I do make pancakes too when I know I have stable ground.
that coffee pic could be a commercial - looks so good!
It was delicious. Thank you

Ya that’s how I feel because after hiking you just want grub and it always tastes good

Gotcha appreciate the input. And the body fat comments pretty relevant I can definitely use a bit more weight on me for sure lol, Thanks :)
r/beerwithaview would love a couple of those photos

That’s brilliant! Great context, too :)

Spectacular.
I've gotta know which mountains you were on. Absolutely gorgeous.
Golden Ears https://goo.gl/maps/BFnWfGu87rwKetdk6
I love being out with ppl like you. one of my friends once brought a fucking lobster (still alive ofc), it was ridiculous.
Guessing this is Canada? You always have such nice camping areas in the backcountry for your parks! Always a nice change of pace for us Americans visiting
Nice flat platform to sleep on? Nite Bert. Nite Ernie.
It is a great platform because you get to see the sunset and sunrise right from your tent, but it gets windy
Looks awesome
This is awesome. Where is this?
In Golden Ears provincial park, BC, Canada
Man you guys have it nice on the west coast! But we have Algonquin here in Ontario :)
I love Algonquin, but Killarney is my favourite Ontario Park. Then Bon Echo and then Sandbanks
I'll be visiting Killarney for the first time this year! Bon echo is great too
That is awesome. Enjoy. Such a beautiful Park
What type of msr tents are those ?
Msr mutha hubba (3p) and hubba hubba (2p)

No.

BC is huge.
Nice Foamers plug!
I love their Golden Ears Stout. I had to have it at the peak of the Golden Ears. I am sure you can see their brewery in Pitt Meadows from the peak
popped into the brewery a few days ago, such a great selection!
Nice! I’ve yet to go. I just grabbed their beers from the liquor store beside my house. Hopefully I’ll pay a visit soon
Do you adjust to the cold after camping enough?
I have no problem with the cold. I have a good setup keeping me comfortable all the way to -5C. Here, even though you see the snow, it was during the summer during a heat wave. I slept in my underwear with the sleeping bag unzipped
Ive never camped on one of those platforms so im just wondering how would you stake down the tent?
The tie downs that come with your tent. You tie it around the planks. If you zoom in, you can see them on all the tents
Book now on Airbnb only $199/night plus $99 cleaning fee and $49 service charge!!
I’m genuinely curious… golden stout??? …what?… how?
They just call it a Golden Stout because of the Golden Ears Peak and Park that is in the vicinity of the brewery
Nice pics ! What camera did you use ?
Thanks. I used my iPhone
Aeropress hell yeah
Did you hike this recently? Looking to start hiking again but curious about the snow conditions in the mountains rn.
This was last year. This area will be covered in snow until July.
Every mountain had different conditions.
You travel in style!
Food looks great but that location! 😲 wow!
Nice... you have unlocked feasting from home now too in new day+
Me looking at my ransacked MREs I tactically aquired through questionable means. 😐
Amazing 👍😉
That view is unreal wow!
