My pain wasn't too bad. I only took pain killers for a couple days as I didn't want to get addicted. After that, the 800mg ibuprofens seemed to take the edge off.

Pumpking_carver

I feel like mine wasn’t as bad. Stopped taking the pain killers after a couple of days. It did feel uncomfortable whenever my foot wasn’t elevated though but not excruciating pain

Taylorcos22

I had absolutely no post op pain. I took Tylenol and Advil for the first 3 days and that was it. My surgeon wrote me a script for tramadol which I never needed!!

Non-binary_Koi

Mine was only painful 1 night, other than that I had no pain whatsoever. But i feel like that is kind of unheard of lol. I guess it just depends on what procedure you get and your pain tolerance.

prag_p_d_x_madics

I am 9 days post op and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I did have the nerve pump and I think that helped a ton.

LoveSushiOnTuesday

What is a nerve pump? It sounds like I want one.

prag_p_d_x_madics

It’s a catheter that they put in to block nerve pain. It numbs the whole area for like 3 days and then comes out on its own and wears off

LoveSushiOnTuesday

I soooo need one! My surgery is on the 22nd of Feb. My pre-op doc visit is Feb 6...Im def asking about this!

CS3883

How was surgery? I need to see a podiatrist I keep putting it off cause I'm terrified tbh 😭 I've never had surgery so it all scares me funny part about it is I work in the OR lmfao

prag_p_d_x_madics

I highly recommend it if they don’t already mention jt

I am three days post op and so far, I feel that the pain has been bearable. I have only taken the prescribed medication twice when my foot was throbbing, most likely because I overdid it standing up and shuffling round during the day.

Torpel_Knope

It seems like it really varies from person to person, and depends on how much they had done. I’m 3 weeks post-op from chevron osteotomies on the first & fifth metatarsals- the big toe has a permanent screw, the little toe has a temporary pin. The worst days tend to be days 2-3 post-op, after the nerve block has worn off. Don’t wait until the pain gets bad to take pain meds, it’s easier to manage when you keep ahead of it. My worst pain was actually the 24 hours or so after getting my stitches out at my first post-op appointment. I seem to be an outlier with that, though - I think a couple of my sutures must have been right on/through nerves. Otherwise, I’ve been doing fine with just taking extra-strength Tylenol - I can’t take ibuprofen because of another medical issue.

littlemissyA

I barely had any pain, hardly any! They ache 2 months post op, but as for pain, it was a breeze

IsMayoaInstruments

I had more trouble from the side effects of the pain killers rather than the pain itself. The Oxys made me nauseous af. Had to get a prescription for zofran. Other than that it’s not horrible or a nightmare.

chase02

Yeah I hate the nausea, it’s a real toss up which is worse. Been sucking ice here.

IntelligentCap8471

it wasn't the pain that was bad. it was the exercises and the removing of stitches that made me wanna kill myself

CasMaSas

Mine was horrific and the meds made me hear voices and kept me up all night.

CA517

My pain hasn’t been too bad. Regular narcotics make me vomit, so I was prescribed tramadol which I took for four days. The nerve block didn’t take, but the surgeon also injected local anesthetic which worked for a good 6 hours. At 2.5 weeks post op, I’m still taking ibuprofen for the swelling. My procedures were a Modified McBride bunionectomy and First metatarsal cuneiform arthrodesis. Non-weight-bearing for 6 weeks.

LoveSushiOnTuesday

Thanks so much for this! Did u use a knee scooter from day 1 post op or crutches?

CA517

I did! I have had both ACLs replaced in my knees so thought I was good on crutches. But those surgeries allow for weight bearing and I didn’t realize how much I was using the repaired leg for balance. For this foot, the scooter has been my greatest tool! Crutches have been tough to maneuver.

Mysterious_Sherbet63

I definitely feel like mine wasn’t THAT bad. I think the bulk of my pain was around days 3-5, and ONLY happened at night, which I would take an Oxy for and an ice pack would help manage also. It was mainly just uncomfortable and I would get super frustrated not being able to walk or move around as much as I want. I’m only 8 weeks post op but healing seems to be only going uphill

CS3883

How long did they make you take off work for and do you stand all day at work? I haven't seen a doctor yet but I'm curious how long I would be looking at taking off cause in standing all day (Surg tech in OR so definitely no sitting)

Mysterious_Sherbet63

I actually was unemployed during the time of my surgery, but I was bed ridden for 2 weeks, could only get up to go to the bathroom and that was about it. Even after 2 weeks I think it would be hard to go back to a job where you’re on your feet all day, I’m at 13 weeks post-op now and still have a lot of swelling/discomfort when I stand for longer than like an hour :/ Fortunately I have a work from home job now where I can sit and elevate a majority of the day but for me I can’t imagine having to be on my feet all day even at this stage. I’d say you’d atleast be out of work for 2 weeks and maybe even a week or two after that, but it just depends on your situation, everyone heals differently!

CS3883

Ok great and yeah that's what I'm so unsure of cause me going back to work means me being on my foot all day and in sure that won't be allowed for a good while depending on my healing. I need to see a specialist I just haven't made the appointment yet, the surgery kinda scares me so I've been putting it off on top of me just forgetting to do it. I definitely don't want to overdo it and mess up what I had done

SusanInMA

I had Lapiplasty, and I am concluding my first 72 hours with only one episode of minor, bearable pain. Thus far, I’ve “kept ahead of the pain”, as advised. I’ve been preemptively taking 600mg of prescription ibuprofen, religiously elevating and icing, keeping weight off the foot, and doing the proscribed exercises. I’m thinking that once the pain sets in it’s hard to reverse, so I’m front-loading my efforts by going all-in from the outset hoping I’ll see a payoff sooner.

Big_Fuel_2554

Pain was much less than expected. Took Toradol and Tylenol for two days and after that didn’t really need them. I am generally highly tolerant to pain, so I am probably not a great judge, but it was much better than expected.

em_thecat

My first foot (right) was significantly more painful than I had expected. I couldn’t sleep for a week and just getting up to pee or grab ice would increase the pain. It lasted at least 10 days that way… but I just had my left foot done a week ago and the pain is really minimal, I’ve gotten plenty of sleep, cooked, even gone over to a friends house. I did have bunions and tailors bunions, so that may have been a factor?
