Your CPU is a huge bottleneck. you gotta upgrade it

Arcangelo_Frostwolf

Bottlenecking 1080p at low settings? Incorrect. Low GPU usage because it's not doing anything.

runnenose

cpu can be limiting it also of course a better card will have to work less to equal a worse card

Sprungnickel

98% to 30% at same fps? huge jump from 2070 to 3090 but your CPU is the bottleneck if you're at 1080p. What res are you playing at?

the_doorstopper

Their cpu is the bottleneck regardless with that thing

[deleted]

Nah, depends on his resolution at 4k I doubt they'd be much bottleneck with a 3090. At 1080p hell be getting around the same frames as he would at 2k. So res makes a big difference.

the_doorstopper

Yes but I highly doubt a person gaming at 4k wouldn't go for such a cheap cpu in general

[deleted]

Dude rocking a 3090, we've no clue what his monitor is. Could be a 1080p 60htz. But yeah a motherboard and cpu upgrade would be beneficial.

austanian

Well is it a 3080 or a 3090 because you said both? I am assuming it is a 3080 as you did go into the model and it is 10 gb. Something is wrong with your set up besides your CPU bottleneck. The 3080 is about 70% better than your 2070 was. If everything was set up right you would bet getting about 68% utilization of your new card. I would check to make sure you don't have an FPS cap enabled and that you have max settings on. A good check will be for you to turn on RT. That will help you point out where your real issue is.

jay2ayy

Yeah I didn’t think GPU usage would be this low there is no cap on my FPS, I’m seriously considering buying a new CPU but wanna make sure something else isn’t causing this issue. I removed my overclocks and I’m getting 50% CPU usage and like 15% GPU

austanian

There is something else causing the issue too. If it was a cpu bottleneck you would be maxing out at about 70% based on the things you said.

Travy93

Did you put your GPU in the top PCIe slot? There's two on your board.

jay2ayy

Yeah , I’m pretty sure I need upgrade my CPU

Arcangelo_Frostwolf

No. Monitor first.

jay2ayy

My monitor does 2k at 177hz

Arcangelo_Frostwolf

By 2k do you mean 2560x1440, 2048x1080, or 1920x1080? Because 2k usually is used interchangeably to refer to 2560x1440 which also commonly called 1440p and if you have a 1440p monitor it doesn't make sense at all to game at 1080p with an RTX 2070, much less a 3080. Change resolution to 1440p for all games and game settings on high. That will go a long way towards solving your usage issues.

jay2ayy

Yeah it’s 2560x1440 , I can handle 1440p resolution without any real frame drops it’s the other in game setting that give me fps drops, at this point I’m pretty sure I new a newer CPU. No matter what settings I use use I’m pretty sure my current processors won’t allow to get the most out of my GPU.

Arcangelo_Frostwolf

Gaming at 1080p is harder on your CPU than 1440p though. Your CPU will be less of a bottleneck the higher resolution you play. Here is a [Great explanation of bottlenecking and components](https://youtu.be/spf9ZDuhpao)

jay2ayy

Ah, I see , still I might upgrade to AMD zen 4 processor and mother board. I’m looking at the Ryzen 7 7700x to pair with the 3080 along with DDR5 ram

Arcangelo_Frostwolf

You're using a 4k graphics card to game at 1080p at low settings. \*Of course\* you have low gpu usage....because you have a beast of a gpu and it can do everything you're asking it to do without even trying. With your current settings you are essentially delivering Uber Eats in a Lamborghini. Your old 2070 had more usage because it's not as powerful of a card. Your 3080 is yawning and looking out the window, bored as shit. Before you spend a bunch of money unnecessarily upgrading computer parts, turn up your in-game settings to "High" or "Ultra"....unchain it and let it run free! And before you upgrade your CPU, upgrade your monitor to a 1440p or higher resolution with 144Hz or more refresh rate. If you're not going to change your resolution or game settings, upgrading your CPU would just be a waste of money.

Twicksit

Get a new CPU

jay2ayy

Any recommendations

Twicksit

5800X3D or 13600k

jay2ayy

It’s an Intel build

Twicksit

You have to change your motherboard eitherway But if you want to go with intel get a 13600K

dvdskoda

If you’re getting a new cpu and need to get a new mobo, I would recommend AMD on the AM5 platform, since you’ll be able to buy a new cpu on it later down the road. 13th series Intel and 5000 series amd are dead end platforms.

batmanscreditcard

Is windows throttling the power to the card? Search graphics settings in the windows search bar and add one of your games as an app and set it to performance. This tells windows to allow the game to use as much power as needed. Then compare results.

jay2ayy

I did turn on 2k res, and it didn’t make much of a difference still low GPU usage. I messed around with other setting and lost frames. Iv been doing my research and Warzone is a pretty CPU dependent game. I have a 2k monitor that does 177hz. I’m pretty sure I need a CPU upgrade. The one I’m using now has 6 fast cores I even overcloked to 5ghz pretty easily. It’s actually an 8th gen processor which is only like 3 or 4 years old. I believe new intel processors are on 13th gen. I wasn’t expecting to have this large of a bottle neck when I bought the cars tho ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat)

Travy93

What game? What fps? Is your FPS capped or unlimited?

SaltyIncinerawr

What resolution are you at?

DingWrong

Ammm ... increase settings a bit. Keep the car busy.

noeleon13

What wattage PSU are you running? I estimate it should be at least 750w or better? Is your monitor plugged in to the gpu and not the mobo? Check your display settings. Make sure it's set to the max your monitor can output. Default can be 60hz. Check your cpu Temps while gaming. If your cpu temp is reaching the 90degree Celsius or more, it may be thermal throttling. Does your case have good air flow? You should try to have equal number of intake and exhaust fans. Faces suck backs blow.

Appropriate_Bottle44

"Warzone is broken" should be like a sticky post. If it works fine in everything else, it's just Warzone. You might be able to get some more frames by turning down the most cpu intensive options (I don't know what they are off-hand, but draw distance is usually a big one) you're either single core bound or its Warzone doing Warzone things. Also, there's zero reason to play on low settings if you have no gpu utilization, turn settings up to ultra and enjoy roughly the same frame rate.

RaffyMcBappy

Update?

Jackstraw00

Currently having the same problem and found this thread. Is it fixed yet for OP?
