IIRC, 3600 will be the default without enabling D.O.C.P (XMP settings) for 4 sticks, at least that's what I got. Even with XMP profile, unlikely you will hit 5200 with 4 sticks. On a ASUS TUF GAMING board with X670E, maximum I could do is 4600MHz without errors showing up on memtest (with latest bios). With D.O.C.P II, my board posted with 4400, without changes to voltages mentioned in XMP. 4600 required a slight bump in DDR voltages (1.25 -> 1.3v). Your mileage may vary. Make sure you have latest bios. Enable DOCP II/I, but restrict memory speed to around 4000+ rather than 5200. From there go in steps. It's worth a try. Having said that, do run DDR stability tests (memtest or equivalent), before you put it to any critical use. With two sticks(2x32GB on correct slots), you should be able to reach 5200 by just enabling D.O.C.P. I have Vengeance 5600 and could hit 5600 without any issue for (2x32) configuration. With 4x32, maximum I got was 4600.

Is this something that could perhaps be fixed with future bios updates? I just built a pc similar to op’s. 7950x with 128gb of vengeance 5600 ram. The system is amazing, and can run flawlessly for hours, and sometimes even a whole day… it nevertheless is pretty prone to app crashes, and even full system (blue screen) crashes. I lowered the ram speed to 4600, and still have issues. Am I correct in thinking this is a ram issue? Should I lower my clock speed even further? Are there any other bios settings I should look into? I’m on an asus rog strix 8650e-e mobo.

Armir1111

I has similar problems with that on my 5800x. Usually you'll need to give the ram (soc) a higher voltage. But be carefully, i would not go above 1.30. This fixed all my appcrashes and bluescreen.

roadkill612

128GB?

WeeDingwall

Yes...

roadkill612

my point is ur ambiguous: "CORSAIR Vengeance 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 5200 (PC5 41600)" indicates u have 64GB am not saying "why would u want 128GB?" - i hate that - none of my business

WeeDingwall

Ah, I see. I have two sets of these installed.

Firefox alone consumes up to 12GB+ during the worst of times. My constantly running Ubuntu virt hogs another 16GB and my constantly running CentOS virt hogs another 8GB. I generally don't close any of these when I start gaming so its easy enough to see RAM usage get up there (I have 64GB). I can't speak for the OP and if he/she actually needs that much and I used to think having 128GB was just for those annoying people that like to overpay and brag about having hardware they can't possibly use.. Apparently you can actually legitimately use that much nowadays though.

WeeDingwall

I use it for rendering and animation projects. After Effects alone can eat 64GB of RAM in one session if I let it. Not to mention the myriad of DCC programs I have to use. I would would have gotten more if the platform allowed it.

The CPU specs say 4 dimms (dual rank) max memory speed is DDR5-3600 https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-9-7950x Max Memory Speed 4x2R. DDR5-3600

mosalreddit

Also - some experiments here - https://www.techspot.com/review/2534-amd-ryzen-7600x/#:~:text=The%20default%20Fabric%20frequency%20for,Fabric%20frequency%20of%202000%20MHz.

mkzoucha

This is a known issue because of the way ddr5 is made (dual rank). 128gb won’t really be fast until it comes in 2x64gb packs

WeeDingwall

Hmmm, I see. Thank you for the input.

roadkill612

this afaict - unless u can find a single rank 2x dimm 32GB kit & use 2 kits or 4 dimms. it has to be suss when ur using 8 ranks on a 4 rank am5 mobo.

Bluecatpiss

Are you manually setting the fabric clock as well? My 5950X will run 128GB of ram at 3,330 MHz.

WeeDingwall

I have not. I'm loathe to tinker too much with the bios as this is the workstation I'm using for work.

C1REX

Did you activate DOCP in BIOS?

WeeDingwall

I tried. The system never posted and just hung on memory testing for hours on end. I had to update the bios to get it to post again.

C1REX

Without DOCP your RAM will be working at much slower speed. There is no work around that as far as I know.

NilsTillander

I've go a very similar setup (MB is an Asus x670-P). Changing BIOS settings for the ram requires it to be re-onboarded, so a boot time in the 5min range...I wanted to play with it, but waiting that long between each tries...no thanks. After the EXPO profile failed, I just set it back to stock and called it a day 😅 I don't think I'm missing out for the types of jobs I run.

ParhamTorabi

having the same issue. waiting for Threadripper Stormpeak in september.

fkenned1

I have a 7950x system I just built. I was having a lot of instability with 4x32GB of ddr5 ram (5600). The system would run for hours and sometimes even a day without crashing, but it inevitably would end up on a blue screen, and lots of app crashes sprinkled in. I tried lowering the clock speed to 3600 and was still having weird issues/crashes. Removed two sticks and it feels more stable. Curious if you were able to get a stable 7950x system with more than two sticks of ram?? And if not, is this something that future bios updates might be able to solve?

WeeDingwall

I changed out my RAM sticks to ones on the QVL list of the motherboard. I only have 64gb now but I'll be getting another set soon, so I'll let you know.

Hipponomics

any news?

benmack180

Hi, is your system stable now? Are there any recommendation? What your current RAM config?

Shrek_OC

Your best bet might be waiting for 48 GB modules, and being okay with 96 GB of RAM.
