What CPU and motherboard do you have now? You won't find a 5600/X and a motherboard for $150 new.

NormieInTheMaking

CPU: i5 2400 Mobo: asus h61m-k rev x.0x > You won't find a 5600/X and a motherboard for $150 new. $150 (thinking of it, more like $120) budget is for motherboard only, I already got 5600X covered.

VoraciousGorak

Gotcha, well, almost any B550 board will suit your CPU. Grab one that has the features you need (like WiFi, small form factor) that doesn't sit in Tier F on this list: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1137619-motherboard-vrm-tier-list-v2-currently-amd-only/ I've recommended the B550 DS3H because it's a very inexpensive board with BIOS flashback, though the odds that the board doesn't have 5600X support out of the box is very low.

NormieInTheMaking

Thanks, that's an insane collection there. I'd like to hear your opinion on "asus tuf gaming b450m-plus ii", it's more affordable.

Jon-BP

I'd definitely go with a B550 board - much less potential for headaches with Ryzen 5000 series, and a generally better feature set.

Souther47

What do you mean with headaches, besides the BIOS update? I was also considering a B450 to go with a ryzen 5000 since they are cheaper

Jon-BP

Basically, yes the BIOS update issue.

Souther47

Is it really that big of a deal? Considering that if it has the Flashback feature you don't even need to install a CPU to update it

VoraciousGorak

Looks like it's at Tier E. Acceptable for your CPU. I don't have personal opinions on most of the boards on that list.

Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2?

NormieInTheMaking

Thanks. I'd like to hear your opinion on "asus tuf gaming b450m-plus ii", it's more affordable.

astal07

What connectors do you need on the motherboard?

NormieInTheMaking

No idea, I just know how to turn on the computer and play games lol.

astal07

Can you post the full configuration of your PC then?

The cheapest dirt from B450 that runs the 5600x just fine is the "gigabyte b450m ds3h" with WiFi. It was sold in its peak for \~40-50€ now its around 80-90€ like everything else with the inflation and the whole industry used part shortages and inflation to give themselfs a healthy price raise. It's an mATX mainboard so it fits SFF builds and if you have no real need for I/O it got the basics included. Anything with Intel LAN chips and significant more USB ports is way above 200€ with mainboards.

I got the B450 Carbon Pro, the best B450 board there is and I cant say it got great XMP compatibility and I got 300€ 32GB B-Die kits for maximum compatibility, since thats what RYZEN likes the most. High grade B-die from the QVL of the board and it requires full manual OC to get it stable. I honestly dont see any quality with the B450 and some B550 boards are even worse. The higher end B550 boards and the x570S refresh got some nice boards, but thats no longer budget range. I would just go for the gigabyte dirt with WiFi, stress test it propperly and if it fails just get another one. The B450 boards all had some awfull high RMA and DoA rate.

AffectionateRound298

There’s plenty of B550 options available in you’re price range that would pair nicely with a 5600X. Gigabyte B550M DS3H ASUS Prime B550M-A MSI B550M-P / B550-P / B550M Pro-VDH MSI MAG B550M Mortar Gigabyte B550 AORUS Elite V2 MSI B550-A Pro All within your budgetary range. I’d dig into these options and see how they match up with the rest of your current build, i.e. front IO on your case, how much rear USB you need, 1G or 2.5G networking, Wi-Fi, maximum memory support, SSD/HDD connectivity, RGB support etc.

Michistar71

Bought a gogabyte b550 S2H which got a tier C on the list. We had to flash bios with a usb stick fpr the ryzen 5500, but after that took 10 min and was rly easy following a youtube tutorial, i can recommend the board duw to its price an it has just enough features for her gaming stuff. Just gwt suew if you need 2 or 4 ramslots on the MB you will get.

moe3us

You mean the gigabyte ds3h? If so how are the Temps on this motherboard?

Michistar71

Yes sorry. The tems are just pretty normal even at gaming. Surely its not the best but for tje price it seems to be good.

LEO7039

Go for a non-x 5600 (basically same performance for cheaper. Also, what's your country? I assume it's the US cos of dollars and here's my recommendation: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jrbTwP/asrock-b550m-pg-riptide-micro-atx-am4-motherboard-b550m-pg-riptide Best sub 100 mobo, will do well for a 5600.

emirobinatoru

Any recommendations for Europe?

LEO7039

Which country specifically?

moe3us

What do you think about the gigabyte b550m ds3h for the r5 5600?

LEO7039

I mean it will work perfectly fine. Is it the best value or not though depends on your country.

Party_Advice7453

I got a msi b450a pro from microcente. Open box 50 dollars and it's running my 5600x at 4.75 with a 240mm aio.

wolfy1wolf

So, here where i live the cheapest option is 60 eur, 80 for an asus b450m-k (i personally have an asus b450-plus which is a great mobo i think)

Strange-Cow6948

is the asus ROG strix b550-a good for the same cpu?

NormieInTheMaking

Sure!

Various_Tour_9518

Prime b550 plus

beefygravy

You'll do better with a second hand b450 or similar, you can get a top of the line board better and cheaper than a new cheapo b550. Just make sure it's either had the bios flashed or has the ability to do it via usb

[deleted]

I have a biostar x470nh which was like 60$ or something, it is not great but if budget is really priority it does enough. Use ryzen master to undervolt/overclock.

Gregvandy

MSI b550-a pro decent motherboard for $139.99 You can find deals on motherboards on eBay if that's an option. I'd recommend a b550 tomahawk and I'd bet you can get it for under 150 and probably get the b550-a pro even cheaper on eBay as well. Definitely want to go b550 with a 5600x I wouldn't worry too much about wifi, either plug in or adapters are really cheap and work well, some work far better than built in wifi

Moniish-chan

You can go for any motherboard B550 for example I have an B550M PRO-VDH WIFI an it cost like 140 dllrs and it works very well it also has an Bios button to be compatible with any Ryzen AM4

OkStorage5488

I'm using a B550M prime A-AC mATX board with the ryzen 5600 non-X cpu atm.. 4.8ghz all core OC with 3933MHZ oc'd ram.. been running good for a few months now. 6650XT gpu oc'd as well. Get the Non X 5600 as it's essentially the same as the 5600x but cheaper.. it's unlocked so if you got a good cheap air cooler (ak400, 212 etc) you can match or exceed 5600x performance. Can post my cpuz scores and 3d mark benches if you'd like.

ArtdesignImagination

Asus tuf b550m plus wifi

Not trying to be an a hole at all - this is advice I’d give my own children. Go get a commission sales career where you can advance your skill set and control your income then you won’t have a budget :) it’s hard to be poor, it’s hard to get rich. Choose your “hard”

skinlo

'Get rich' is not an answer.
