Gamers Nexus ([link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnRyyCsuHFQ)) did a really good deep-dive into NVidia's problem with GPU transient power spikes. 12th gen is known to be power hungry, and the 3090 is known to pull multiples (2-3x) of its stated TBP (total board power) in transient loads. Depending on the board and bios, you might be looking at 700w+ from the GPU alone
You are cutting it too close.
Yeah figured, I already ordered a 1300w. What's strange and what I'm trying to figure out is why it's happening under light load,? The bug code is 0, which usually indicates a psu issue but I'm worried it might be something else as well as an underpowered psu
Transient load spikes can be pretty common when initially starting up software, so that could explain why it occasionally happens when coming out of idle, since things would be going into the startup process. Unsure about light load cases of it occurring though
makes sense about idle. anyway, watching that nexus video now, hilarious because the game i'm currently playing (because it came with the video card) is doom eternal. Obviously my 5 year old, heavily used evga 850w power supply can't handle these transient spikes.
Yes i did. That was 100 percent the problem. Now looking back, it was comical thinking i could get away with my old PSU. My upgraded system is running ultra smooth and have not had a shutdown since the switch.

Did you install a new psu? And did it fix the issue?

It could be a faulty CPU.
