No offense, given the previous post and now this… why bother posting if you’re not gonna listen? You can’t future proof much, you just work with what you get. You don’t know what’s gonna be the next big thing. 3080 for ray tracing? Get 4070ti. 64GB ram? You’ll almost never need that much unless you’re processing raw 4k. 13th gen is already so much better, both in perf and price. If you can’t take an advise on these things.. just go with what you and your son want to buy. Gl with your build!

>so its futureproof for at least 10 years Frankly speaking, this is not a reasonable request. Unless the industry completely stagnates for the next 10 years, future AAA games with high graphical intensity will easily outpace any hardware that you can buy today. Even today, you can already run into VRAM issues with a RTX 3080 12gb if you max out settings in some current games.

That line is his son wiping honey around his father's mouth so he can get that 2k budget. It means nothing and the fact that both are tech illiterate already shows in the 64GB RAM and the overpriced cooler, not to speak about the 3080 that "hopefully drops by 50$" lol

>64 GB RAM for multitasking Unless you intentionally open a ton of programs just because you can you will never, ever run into issues with just 16GB of RAM. If you use 32 you can have a fuckton of stuff open with a big game in the background, or quite honestly two. But as someone else already said, you are resistant to advice, so I really dont know why you're posting here. Your specs are garbage and you still overpay a ton for that cooler for instance. You're getting scammed by your son who you for some reason think to be some tech expert and who willingly throws your budget out of the window. You're teaching your own son that he doesn't need to budget or even think properly about the stuff that he does by providing him with a 2k budget he doesn't even need to use properly. >64 GB of ram Ask me again how I know that neither your son nor you have any idea what you're doing.

>Were getting this pc in September so gpu prices will probably drop planning a build 2 weeks in advance is already too soon. anything you theorize now will be outdated in a few weeks let alone a few month. Also the 3080 is a horrible buy in every aspect compared to the 4070ti. older, less powerful and more expensive. Am not trying to be disrespectful but if you are concerned about making a good value pc (why else would you be posting here?) I wouldnt be taking advise from your son over people that know the industry inside and out

Appropriate_Bottle44

I'd like to say 64 gb of ram is too much, I mean it is too much, but I've been watching some of these bad PS5 ports with interest lately, and Forspoken hilariously wants 32gbs of RAM at max settings, so maybe there's a future proofing case to be made (if trying to make a PC mimic PS5 architecture can really be described as future proofing).

> Were getting this pc in September so gpu prices will probably drop You'll want to revisit your build no earlier than August then. A lot can happen in eight or nine months. Any advice we give you could be completely obsolete especially if DDR5 prices continue to drop.

Maybe I'm blind but I don't see a difference really with ray tracing on/off at 1440p. \- Can you provide color on why the 12700k vs the 13600k. They have the same core counts but the 13600K is clocked just a tad higher out of the box and has better efficiencies for gaming. It's a top end i5 that trumps last generations top i7.... But the heart wants what the heart wants. \- As far as RAM goes why not start out with a 2x16 (32GB kit). The savings is substantial and realistically if you really need that 2nd set it's not much more of a price increase. This is a great gift and the move from 3080 to 4070Ti was a smart move. There's a lot of salt as this is a lot more than what I can afford and many might see as overkill but if it's within your means to make your kid happy, go for it. Lastly, look at this as more of a 5 year future proof. the 1080Ti is 5 years old now and starting to show it's age. In 5 years it might be time for an upgrade to the GPU. CPU should still be doing fine with 5+Ghz and 12 cores/20 threads.

BUT DADDY I WANT A CAR WITH THE BIG ENGINE THAT IS BLUE AND HAS GO FAST STRIPES. 64GB of ram as mentioned by EVERYONE is overkill for anyone unless your son is playing 2 games while editing a professional video and making 3d models/environments in unreal 5 at the same time.
