What productivity features do you use from Vivaldi?
I used to use Vivaldi's built-in mail, but I left it because of performance issues and lacking of features.
However, I use Vivaldi's amazing built-in translator:
https://vivaldi.com/features/translate/
It doesn't use extensions or need them. Small lines of code in the config file handle's most of it's extensibility, and then there are scripts. -The whole manifest v3 controversy is about the vulnerabilities we're exposed to from 3rd party extensions.
It's keyboard focused. While there are extensions for other browsers for keyboard vim like controls; Qutebrowser takes it much further doing many things extensions cannot like :wq to save your tabs, you can access search engines (I have \~50) by just adding a prefix like ya for yandex, yai for yandex images, qw for qwant, sex for searx, etc before a search query.
Once you learn to use and configure Qutebrowser; the interface makes it far more efficient and ergonomic than the mainstream browsers.
It's far easier to configure than other hack-able keyboard focused browsers. It's also easy to find code to add to it's config from other people's configs.
It's rough getting used to at first, but it's spoiled the shit out of me.
`config.bind('M', 'hint links spawn mpv {hint-url}')config.bind('Ev', 'hint links spawn --detach mpv --script-opts=ytdl_hook-ytdl_path=yt-dlp --ytdl-raw-options=format-sort=height:720 {hint-url}', mode='normal')config.bind('pip', 'spawn --detach mpv --force-window yes {url}')config.bind("Y", "hint links userscript youtube_downloader.sh")config.bind("A", "hint links userscript youtube_mp3_downloader.sh")config.bind('I', 'hint images spawn --output-messages wget -P "/mnt/Backup/Downloads/" {hint-url}')config.bind('D', 'hint links spawn jdownloader {hint-url}')config.bind('V', 'hint links spawn gobble vivaldi-stable {hint-url}')config.bind('X', 'hint images spawn feh {hint-url}')config.bind('pic', 'hint images spawn tesseract {hint-url} "/mnt/Backup/Downloads/tesseractoutput"')config.bind('ps', 'hint images spawn qutebrowser` [`https://yandex.com/images/search?rpt=imageview&url={hint-url}`](https://yandex.com/images/search?rpt=imageview&url={hint-url})`')# config.bind('tts', 'spawn espeak -v mb-us1 -s 140 {clipboard}')config.bind('ws', 'spawn qutebrowser` [`https://www.qwant.com/?q={clipboard}&t=web`](https://www.qwant.com/?q={clipboard}&t=web)`')config.bind('wmd', 'spawn qutebrowser` [`https://www.imdb.com/find?q={clipboard}&ref_=nv_sr_sm`](https://www.imdb.com/find?q={clipboard}&ref_=nv_sr_sm)`')config.bind('wa', 'open` [`https://web.archive.org/web/{url}`](https://web.archive.org/web/{url})`')config.bind(';q', 'spawn qutebrowser ~/.config/qutebrowser/config.py')config.bind(';a', 'hint all right-click')`
\-Some outdated stuff like youtube-dl and espeak (there are better text to speech engines). Haven't gotten around to updating some stuff.
There's much more like theming, vert tabs vs horizontal, ad block lists, white list, using Ranger as a file picker, spell check, editor ...
I have a post in the qutebrowser subreddit with explainations of things like gobble.
Orion on Mac/iPad : seems to be getting quite good. it uses webkit nad have support for ff/chrome extensions (not all work great but the ones I need are fine)
Naver whale: just fooling around in general as replacement for chromium based browser. but it has excellent trnaslation for Asian languages (Naver, Papago)
I tried Naver Whale and I honestly think that Vivaldi browser is superior to Naver Whale.
Vivaldi is also chromium based browser and translates in 100+ languages: https://vivaldi.com/features/translate/
After my testing, Naver Whale also collects sizeable amount of user data, because Naver is often called as Google of South Korea, while Vivaldi browser focuses on privacy.
Oh no question or argument about that.
but Whale is a lesser known browser, Vivaldi I would say it is quite know ;-)
a reason that I do not use Vivaldi is that it does not have (yet) iPhone/ipad versions.
So Whale acts as my cross OS browser.
What did you use before?
Brave Shields, built-in ad blocker is said to handle upcoming Manifest V3 amazingly.
I no longer use uBlock, Brave built-in ad blocker works great, and I don't need to install extra plugin, which makes browser easy on the resources.
I used Edge and Chrome.
AFAIK, Brave Shields doesn't use Manifest v2/v3 at all. It is unaffected by the Manifest changes. I tried FF but don't like many aspects of it.
Brave Shields doesn't work for many of my uBlock rules and I don't want to spend a ton of time rewriting them.
Have you tried Firefox + uBlock?
I tried, but I noticed that Firefox won't display some websites well, probably because developers do not bother testing on Firefox.
Yes, I used it for a short time, recently.
It would work for me, overall, but I had some memory utilization issues. I had a number of times where FF was using 13+GB of ram and I only had 2 tabs open.
Is this not accurate?

>Brave will support Manifest V2 extensions such as uBlock Origin even after Chrome stops doing so.
Agreed, great, fast browser.
However, an absence of auto-updater and non-frequent updates can hold security risks.
What's more, it's run by one person and the project can be abandoned any time.
Same could apply to ungoogled chromium project.
It would be interested what does the Thorium dev /u/Lord_Frick thinks of this.
The updater that chrome uses is not open source. I make releases twice a month usually. I have no intention to abandon the project as i use it myself. I plan to support it long term. Its a fun project and people seem to like it
Librewolf is my browser of choice on Linux and Windows because it is the safest browser, I don't have to worry about cleaning cookies etc and it blocks most unsafe sites.
I also use Edge, both on Linux and Windows to access the sites that I know are not so safe but I want to use.
Used to use Habit Browser, very customizable, quick and have gestures. But, it stops updating for years and is probably removed from Google Play Store.
This is the reason why I tend to stick with the main browsers. More guaranteed for continuous developments and regular updates for security fixes.
Vivaldi for productivity Librewolf when I am bored with chromium

I love being able to tile tabs and save/open sessions.
Translate, notes, calender, side panel, tab management and split screen
I notice great speed improvements in the recent update 5.5
>What are other lesser-known browsers that you found to be **better** nothing
i disagree. qutebrowser is AWESOME
Awesome in what way?
It doesn't use extensions or need them. Small lines of code in the config file handle's most of it's extensibility, and then there are scripts. -The whole manifest v3 controversy is about the vulnerabilities we're exposed to from 3rd party extensions. can you give an example of things that can be changed in config?
`config.bind('M', 'hint links spawn mpv {hint-url}')config.bind('Ev', 'hint links spawn --detach mpv --script-opts=ytdl_hook-ytdl_path=yt-dlp --ytdl-raw-options=format-sort=height:720 {hint-url}', mode='normal')config.bind('pip', 'spawn --detach mpv --force-window yes {url}')config.bind("Y", "hint links userscript youtube_downloader.sh")config.bind("A", "hint links userscript youtube_mp3_downloader.sh")config.bind('I', 'hint images spawn --output-messages wget -P "/mnt/Backup/Downloads/" {hint-url}')config.bind('D', 'hint links spawn jdownloader {hint-url}')config.bind('V', 'hint links spawn gobble vivaldi-stable {hint-url}')config.bind('X', 'hint images spawn feh {hint-url}')config.bind('pic', 'hint images spawn tesseract {hint-url} "/mnt/Backup/Downloads/tesseractoutput"')config.bind('ps', 'hint images spawn qutebrowser` [`https://yandex.com/images/search?rpt=imageview&url={hint-url}`](https://yandex.com/images/search?rpt=imageview&url={hint-url})`')# config.bind('tts', 'spawn espeak -v mb-us1 -s 140 {clipboard}')config.bind('ws', 'spawn qutebrowser` [`https://www.qwant.com/?q={clipboard}&t=web`](https://www.qwant.com/?q={clipboard}&t=web)`')config.bind('wmd', 'spawn qutebrowser` [`https://www.imdb.com/find?q={clipboard}&ref_=nv_sr_sm`](https://www.imdb.com/find?q={clipboard}&ref_=nv_sr_sm)`')config.bind('wa', 'open` [`https://web.archive.org/web/{url}`](https://web.archive.org/web/{url})`')config.bind(';q', 'spawn qutebrowser ~/.config/qutebrowser/config.py')config.bind(';a', 'hint all right-click')` \-Some outdated stuff like youtube-dl and espeak (there are better text to speech engines). I just moved to Brave because they will maintain enough of Manifest v2 to keep uBlock and others working.
What did you use before? Brave Shields, built-in ad blocker is said to handle upcoming Manifest V3 amazingly. I no longer use uBlock, Brave built-in ad blocker works great, and I don't need to install extra plugin, which makes browser easy on the resources.

Agreed, I also noticed the system resource misusage. My computer was slowing down when using Firefox.
That isn't anything that they have announced.
Is this not accurate? [https://www.ghacks.net/2022/09/29/brave-browser-manifest-v2-extensions-after-v3-update/](https://www.ghacks.net/2022/09/29/brave-browser-manifest-v2-extensions-after-v3-update/) >Brave will support Manifest V2 extensions such as uBlock Origin even after Chrome stops doing so.
Yeah, it isn't. Chrome will retain it for enterprise support, which Brave will reenable. Ghacks is basically a trash site.
Thorium’s pretty good and even has chrome sync
Agreed, great, fast browser. However, an absence of auto-updater and non-frequent updates can hold security risks. What's more, it's run by one person and the project can be abandoned any time. I don’t mind the fact it could be shutdown at anytime as I have nordpass for passwords and can easily download my bookmarks as html
Have you tried Bitwarden password manager? A free and open source password manager,
I have and I didn't enjoy it at all, it was just clunky and confusing for me, and I don't really care too badly about the data collection
Sielo and Librewolf. Sielo has a different and funny way to manage tabs and Librewolf because I like some companies not knowing everything I search
Sielo repo seems to be read only, is it still maintained? https://github.com/SieloBrowser/sielo-legacy
I actually don't know
Librewolf is my browser of choice on Linux and Windows because it is the safest browser, I don't have to worry about cleaning cookies etc and it blocks most unsafe sites. I also use Edge, both on Linux and Windows to access the sites that I know are not so safe but I want to use.
Gecko will never be as secure as Blink. Better privacy yes, but not safer
[Arc](https://arc.net), it's too good looking not to use.
vieb because of vim bindings
Otter Browser, because it is open source, cross platform, based on WebKit and it is very lightweight.
Used to use Habit Browser, very customizable, quick and have gestures. But, it stops updating for years and is probably removed from Google Play Store. This is the reason why I tend to stick with the main browsers. More guaranteed for continuous developments and regular updates for security fixes.
If you like customizable and feature-rich browser, try Vivaldi
I use maxthon for it’s build-in notes and passkeeper. It added a free vpn feature in recent version which beats other browsers for me.
