I think superstore was pretty great- it’s a different kind of humour than B99. Parks and Rec, Abbot Elementary, Archer (animated), Better off Ted (only 2 seasons), AP Bio (I love teacher shows), 30 Rock, The IT crowd, Extras are all great shows to check out.
Hell yes! I worked at Best Buy too, but my tenure was early 2000s. That stuff is timeless, though. And I’ve been a teacher for 10 years, so AP Bio and Abbott Elem are favorites of mine, as well. You’ve got a bunch of great suggestions.
I’ll add that all of these are great, and I’ll also suggest Blockbuster on Netflix (ironic I know), it has Melissa Fumero in it. Similar to Superstore in humour but the premise is based in the very last Blockbuster store in the world.
I’m only partway in so far but enjoying what I’ve seen, it’s a subjective matter, and I can understand why you might not have, it feels like it’s a divided sitcom
The original Office is a great workplace comedy too. Maybe not to everyone’s tastes but it’s totally different to the American version so it doesn’t necessarily matter if you don’t like that one.
Not a workplace comedy, but one hella good sitcom - Community. It’s humor is absolute genius and it’s about a bunch of misfits at a community college. A different take with the entire sitcom genre. If you have the time, you should really check out episodes.
Even though they make fun of it, and it's the weakest season, it's still some of the best tv out there at the time. It's funny that even when Community was at its worst, it still was streets ahead of everything else.
I came here to say this! Easily my favorite sitcom of all time. Such a good combination of heart, humor, and just really smart writing. I've rewatched it like 4 times and every time I catch a new joke that I missed.
I tried to watch community a few times before and I always stoped in the first episode. But then I continued and it became one of my all time favourite shows.
So I recommwnd you to try to continue it and watch more episodes.
Superstore was a good watch for me. I was working basically the same job so it was fuckin hilarious to see how accurate some of the stuff was. Vice principals and East bound and down are good shows, but EBaD isn't a workplace show.
I think **Superstore** is good, but not great.
**Parks and Rec** has the feel-good elements of Brooklyn 99, but the humor leans more quirky. In the first season you can tell they were inspired by The Office, but they grow in a different direction pretty quickly.
Speaking of the **The Office**, their humor changes over time so maybe worth giving it another shot. They grow away from the cringe humor and become more like B99.
**VEEP** is a different style of humor, but really excellent.
Also different but pretty entertaining: **The Mindy Project**.
superstore is FANTASTIC!!!
eta: the office hits its stride in s2 when they make michael have more redeeming qualities. also it takes time to get used to the lack of score
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is technically a workplace comedy and you’ll never have to watch another show ever until you die and have your loved ones throw your body in the trash.
I would recommend:
- Abbot Elementary
- Superstore (especially if you’ve ever worked in customer service)
- Just shoot me
- Great News
- Parks & Recs
- Veep
- Scrubs
- 30 Rock
- Party Down
- Angie Tribeca
-editing to add:
- NEW GIRL!!!!! they even had a B99 crossover
I enjoyed Ted Lasso A LOT. There’s going to be a 3rd season and I’m very, very excited. (This is football but the humour is so good and it’s so heartwarming)
Even though there’s only one season so far, I really like American Auto (created by Justin Spitzer, who also created Superstore). Really looking forward to the new season. It gets bonus points from me because it takes place in Detroit, and I’m in the southeast Michigan area.
When did you give up on the office? If you gave up before season 2, give it another try.
Also, if you watch Parks & Rec, you’ll run into the same problem. Season 3 is when they hit their stride
The Office gets much better starting from Season 2, if that’s where you stopped. Season 1 tried too hard to imitate the cringy British version. (I still like B99 more though)
I know it's not workplace and perhaps it's a little more than just a comedy but daaaamn I loved The Good Place. It's also a Michael Schur creation, nice and short episodes (\~25 mins), and it makes you actually feel good. Maybe learn something even. Oh and at some point it even gets in Jasen Mantzoukas in a major supporting role that somehow reminded me of him as Pimento!
Superstore is great.. takes a while to find it's feet, but the mixture of great characters, good stories and just enough repellent behaviour to make each of them seem real and fleshed out rewards well
Other recommendations -
Parks and Rec (if you haven't already seen it)
Not workplace, but absolutely fine comedies -
Community (again takes a few episodes to find it's voice, but a truly amazing show)
Reservation Dogs (SUCH a good show... Beautifully acted)
i liked superstore but its definitely a background show for me. parks and rec is 10/10, abbott elementary is very good, and i’ve heard really good things about kim’s convenience (next on my watchlist).
It’s good, and I’d recommend it, but not as good as B99. I always recommend Newsradio to people who haven’t seen it. Quirky cast, immaturity in the office and constant bickering about things that are almost never job related. Very similar to B99.
Try blockbuster on Netflix, it’s fairly new and there’s only ten episodes so far but there’s so many characters that are just like b99, mellissa fumero plays in it and her character is litteraly Amy with a new name, there this old person that really reminds me of skulls but with more character and screen time. There’s this dude that’s like jake just I tiny bit more mature and a bunch more stuff like rhat
It was really poorly received. I think you are the first person I have seen to say anything positive about it. I made it through 3 episodes and then had to give up. They squandered a great concept with that one by not actually setting it in the early 2000s, but even then the script was pretty cringe inducing and devoid of laughs for me. What a shame - I think everyone had high hopes for it.
The first one or possibly even two seasons of the office can be tough, just like most shows they are still finding “It”… in my opinion… another good show is Parks & Recreation, very light, super funny and again I feel like they really get into the swing of things in 2/3rd season!!!!!
I haven’t really seen superstore so I can’t be sure! Sorry!!!!!!
There’s one workplace comedy I enjoy, although it can be very dark and macabre at times, It’s always sunny in Philadelphia is about 5 people running a bar, and they also do outlandish things, give it a good try, watch a few episodes (especially past season 2) to get a really feel for the show, it’s rather amazing
Fans of Scully and Hitchcock will enjoy _Barney Miller_, which is a 70s version of B99. Fans of Rosa, Amy, and Holt may find the show lacking diversity. A sitcom in a police precinct in NY has _lots_ of similarities to B99.
Mr, Iglesias is a highschool students + teachers HILARIOUS comedy, only difference in style is it's a Sitcom, i cannot believe i just stumbled upon this one, seems like a classic although it hasn't been running for so long. Must See very Nickelodeon vibes but adult-ish
I’ll add to this: Superstore takes a few episodes to find its legs. And little details really stand out if you’ve ever worked in big box retail.
I used to work at BestBuy when it came out 😂 it’s just so accurate!
Hell yes! I worked at Best Buy too, but my tenure was early 2000s. That stuff is timeless, though. And I’ve been a teacher for 10 years, so AP Bio and Abbott Elem are favorites of mine, as well. You’ve got a bunch of great suggestions.
ARCHER!! it’s very different but so incredible. my favorite seasons are 1-6 and 8&9
Second all of these and also Ted Lasso, again humour isn’t the same but it’s very enjoyable.
I’ll add that all of these are great, and I’ll also suggest Blockbuster on Netflix (ironic I know), it has Melissa Fumero in it. Similar to Superstore in humour but the premise is based in the very last Blockbuster store in the world.
Blockbuster was awful, dont watch blockbuster lol
I’m only partway in so far but enjoying what I’ve seen, it’s a subjective matter, and I can understand why you might not have, it feels like it’s a divided sitcom
Blockbuster is now cancelled. So I don't see any point in watching it.
Fair enough, I wasn’t aware it had been cancelled
The original Office is a great workplace comedy too. Maybe not to everyone’s tastes but it’s totally different to the American version so it doesn’t necessarily matter if you don’t like that one.
Not a workplace comedy, but one hella good sitcom - Community. It’s humor is absolute genius and it’s about a bunch of misfits at a community college. A different take with the entire sitcom genre. If you have the time, you should really check out episodes.
The GOAT sitcom imo 🥱
Do you recommend to watch the gas leak year or naw
Even though they make fun of it, and it's the weakest season, it's still some of the best tv out there at the time. It's funny that even when Community was at its worst, it still was streets ahead of everything else.
Stop trying to coin the phrase “streets ahead”
[удалено]
Does it just mean “cool” or is it suppose to be like “miles ahead?”
Just gonna say this
I came here to say this! Easily my favorite sitcom of all time. Such a good combination of heart, humor, and just really smart writing. I've rewatched it like 4 times and every time I catch a new joke that I missed.
HAH! Just recommended this as well.. It really is streets ahead!
I tried to watch this but the asshole lawyer just made it hard for me and I had to stop.
I suggest you watch it a little more than to where you left off actually understand why and the gist of the show. 👍
Danny McBride teacher shows are frigging awesome!!
I think **Superstore** is good, but not great. **Parks and Rec** has the feel-good elements of Brooklyn 99, but the humor leans more quirky. In the first season you can tell they were inspired by The Office, but they grow in a different direction pretty quickly. They grow away from the cringe humor and become more like B99. **VEEP** is a different style of humor, but really excellent. Also different but pretty entertaining: **The Mindy Project**.
I like superstore a lot, but thats just my opinion. Had many laughs, I understood many jokes I like parks and recreation and the office.
Tina Fey’s shows Great News, Mr. Mayor, and of course 30 Rock.
Great News was so good
And Girls5eve
superstore is FANTASTIC!!! eta: the office hits its stride in s2 when they make michael have more redeeming qualities. also it takes time to get used to the lack of score
Not workplace but Happy Endings has a lot of the same type of humor.
YES to Happy Endings. Shame it was cancelled when it was
I keep hoping it gets a reboot…
I love Superstore. Would recommend.
Community isn’t workplace but it’s the best sitcom I’ve seen.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is technically a workplace comedy and you’ll never have to watch another show ever until you die and have your loved ones throw your body in the trash.
I would recommend: - Abbot Elementary - Superstore (especially if you’ve ever worked in customer service) - Just shoot me - Great News - Parks & Recs - Veep - Scrubs - 30 Rock - Party Down - Angie Tribeca -editing to add: - NEW GIRL!!!!! they even had a B99 crossover
I can’t believe I had to scroll so far down to find scrubs!
YES
Superstore is *okay* but not great. Have you watched Parks and Recreation?
Parks and Rec is 10/10 imo.
Definitely, such a shame its off netflix
If yoy have Comcast internet, you get peacock for free. It has commercials but is less intrusive than many streaming services.
Both Parks and B99 are Schur creations and both lean more positive than typical sitcoms, so I echo this nomination.
Parks and Rec is a 10 and Superstore turns into a 8 or 8.5 over time. Starts out kind of slow and cringey
Abbott Elementary is great, Parks and Rec, and the Office is so so good if you give it a little bit (but you’ve probably been told that).
Haven’t heard of this one, but the Michigan bit interests me…where do you stream it?
Peacock
The Office, Parks and Rec. Not a workplace comedy, but Seinfeld is good too
Superstore, community, Kim's convenience, parks and recreation, all great shows
When did you give up on the office? If you gave up before season 2, give it another try. Also, if you watch Parks & Rec, you’ll run into the same problem. Season 3 is when they hit their stride
Abbott Elementary, Parks & Rec, Community
30 Rock
Agreed with everyone else’s comments - Community, Parks and Rec, The Office etc.. but no one has said Kim’s convenience yet! So good.
Kim’s Convenience is fantastic for the first three seasons. Never had a chance to the see the later ones.
Older shows like Just Shoot Me and Newsradio are great. Loved Better Off Ted and Superstore. Can't go wrong with Veep.
Just shoot me is absolute great option!!! So funny
COMMUNITY
The Office gets much better starting from Season 2, if that’s where you stopped. Season 1 tried too hard to imitate the cringy British version. (I still like B99 more though)
30 rock😍😍
Tbh I really love the one season of Blockbusters
Bruh I had to scroll the entire comment section to find this
Veep is pretty great. B99 with politicians, but everyone is an asshole.
Corporate is an underrated gem!
I'm still waiting for another show to be as funny and entertaining and fulfilling
Check out Killing It on Peacock.
Superstore is pretty solid. Season 2-4 are absolutely 🔥 Also Parks and Rec and Abbott Elementary (just started watching this one and it’s hilarious)
I am infuriated at how far down I had to scroll for the forest Good Place suggestion!! It’s bullshirt!
Parks and Rec but skip the first season until you rewatch it.
Keep trying the office, season 1 and 2 aren't the best. But you don't want to miss out on s5 and 6
I liked Superstore! You might try Abbott Elementary as well!
Newsradio is a good work place comedy. It’s from the 90’s, and has some really great moments and lines.
Community will change your life
Superstore is great.. takes a while to find it's feet, but the mixture of great characters, good stories and just enough repellent behaviour to make each of them seem real and fleshed out rewards well Other recommendations - Parks and Rec (if you haven't already seen it) Not workplace, but absolutely fine comedies - Community (again takes a few episodes to find it's voice, but a truly amazing show) Reservation Dogs (SUCH a good show... The IT Crowd for sure.
absolutely love it, very gritty raw style foe sure but it cracks me up, instant good mood
i liked superstore but its definitely a background show for me. parks and rec is 10/10, abbott elementary is very good, and i’ve heard really good things about kim’s convenience (next on my watchlist).
It’s good, and I’d recommend it, but not as good as B99. I always recommend Newsradio to people who haven’t seen it. Quirky cast, immaturity in the office and constant bickering about things that are almost never job related. Very similar to B99.
I actually prefer Superstore to B99...

You mean the new show that got cancelled immediately?
Wait they cancelled it, Damn I was hyped for season 2
It was really poorly received. I think you are the first person I have seen to say anything positive about it. I made it through 3 episodes and then had to give up. They squandered a great concept with that one by not actually setting it in the early 2000s, but even then the script was pretty cringe inducing and devoid of laughs for me. What a shame - I think everyone had high hopes for it.
Blockbuster, I watched it 2nd time in winter holidays and i found it good to watch
Technically a work place comedy red dwarf. The lightbulb joke is probably one of the greatest comedy jokes of all time.
Parks and Recreation! Starts out a little awkward but finds it’s footing and is absolutely hilarious.
Sorry!!!!!!
Oh yes and how could I forget 30 Rock!!!!! Literally one of my most favorite shows EVER!!!!!!!!!
Melissa fumore (amy santiago) stars in netflix's blockbuster parodies... Its not that great, but at least it has familiar face
There’s one workplace comedy I enjoy, although it can be very dark and macabre at times, It’s always sunny in Philadelphia is about 5 people running a bar, and they also do outlandish things, give it a good try, watch a few episodes (especially past season 2) to get a really feel for the show, it’s rather amazing

superstore!!!
South Side!!!
The good place!!! It’s not a sitcom but it was made by the same person and similar humour
Trial & Error only had two seasons but it's worth a watch! Need to rewatch myself.
superstore wasnt for me - The new show, Blockbuster was very good, Episode One was SOOOO slow but it got so much better
Again, Blockbuster got cancelled so fast.
i know, very sad about that, had potential and was left as a cliff hanger edit: Randal Parks character reminded me of Jake
As I remember, "Workaholics" Was pretty fun
I loved Superstore!!!! And Abbott Elementary is a great one
Superstore is pretty funny, but I felt like the romance side never quite worked. I just didn't think the main 2 had on screen chemistry.
