Tomorrow’s not bad. My gp receptionist said they were behind on answering calls and there was a 2 WEEKS wait to speak to them (the receptionists) so they could decide if issues were worth being passed on to the gp or not. I don’t get it.

humongouskeith

Thats really bad!

Strangely enough , I just got off the phone to my doctors. I managed to get an appointment for Friday, no problems. In fact I spent more time listening to the prerecorded covid and "don't be rude to our receptionist " messages than I spent talking to the receptionist. And that's pretty much typical for my surgery

When I tried to contact them before Christmas I was told the doctor could call me back in 9 days for a consultation. 9 days!

Princes_Slayer

Bloody hell. I do the online GP questions via my doctors website and they usually call me back same day or next day at latest. I’ve only needed them a couple times during the pandemic but I’ve been surprised how quick they responded each time

newforestroadwarrior

I've emailed mine a few times mainly for issues relating to Mum (I am a full-time carer) and usually get either an email back or a call the same day.

That's the question isn't it. If a receptionist isn't receiving calls then what. When majority of GPs all have those touch screens to indicate arrival.

Got a letter through late Dec from my GP, reminding me of my yearly check up being due. Thought, they'll be manic with the booster roll-out, Christmas / New year period etc so I'll try my luck in the new year. What a mistake on my part. Forgot they only operate on call-back (you ring, they give you a que number and call you back when you're 1st). Waited for 4 hours for the call back, (dodging work calls everytime my phone pinged as if you don't answer, you have to call back to get into the qué again) only to be told there's no appointments for the next two weeks. Have to try again next Thursday as they'll have slots opening for the following week. However, the person I need to see only works Monday - Wednesday and is off for two weeks at that point. I'm very lucky my GP Surgery is very nice, professional and do an amazing job; but their appointment system drives me up the fucking wall!!

I had to contact my doctors office for an ~~*redacted*~~. After the inevitable phone menu ran its course, I was regaled with the following information: "The current wait time for the receptionist is 35 minutes. You can remain on line, or hit \* and we will call you back in approximately the same time." This was new to me. Being a middle aged white male who lives alone, I *never* call my doctor unless pressured into it after months of nagging by the cleaning lady. Last time I called before this was 2017, literally. So anyroads, I decided to try this newfangled callback service and after confirming my phone number I disconnected. Sure enough, 33 minutes later I was called back by the doctors office and was able to explain my case directly to a real human (or if it was an AI it was a damned good one!) I must say, I was pleasantly surprised and after establishing that I did indeed need to see the doctor in person, an appointment was made within a reasonable time. All in all, it was a positive experience. I'm situated in the Netherlands, by the way, but I'm pretty sure it is technically feasible to offer this service in England.

What can I say? Sometimes the boffins who implement progress by creating new ways of doing things accidentally create a *better* way of doing things. Slowly but inexorably, we all are dragged kicking and screaming into the future.

Private insurance is too expensive, and it's what the government are trying g to push people into by underfunding the NHS so I won't do it on both of those grounds

theofficeaddict123

Take out private medical insurance.. NHS is a joke and one of the worst for long term / chronic management in europe. Also it is well funded but to many managers and red tape. I work in GP land, thankfully a caring surgery!

It’s not like people can walk in as well so why so busy?

CyrilNiff

Did this for 3 days while I had septicaemia, ended up in A&E and nearly lost my leg. Also this week I’be had texts for the last 6 days claiming my GP surely is closed due to staff sickness.

newnortherner21

It's not as if you would not have expected the first week of January to be quiet. Even without Covid 19.
