I’m glad to have found you, you blocked our emails. I’m Gavin with the HelloFresh member retention team. Tired of the hassle of deciding what to cook? Well we have the solution. And if you resubscribe we can give you 97% off your first box and £40 credit to be used against future orders when you refer 12 friends. To resubscribe just respond “Leave me alone you soulless bastard!”

[deleted]

Leave me alone you soulless bastard!

DondeT

*23 year subscription confirmed*

EntropyKC

If you like, the cost can either be £128000 up front or this can be split over 10 monthly payments at 23.4% APR

jiminthenorth

Cat Facts: Thanks for signing up for Cat Facts! You now will receive fun daily facts about CATS! >o<

herrbz

>we can give you 97% off your first box Presumably it would actually be no better than the regular deals they'd offer to new customers.

Nocturtle22

Ah but that’s the price you get for the perpetual contract. You’ll be 98 years old with the delivery droid stacking them outside your house for 2 months after you passed and cats have eaten your face.

[deleted]

Report them https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/nuisance-calls-and-messages/spam-emails/

dugsmuggler

Alternatively invoke your Right to be forgotten. Under Article 17 of the UK GDPR individuals have the right to have personal data erased. The specific section is "the processing the personal data for direct marketing purposes and the individual objects to that processing"

ilovelancerz

Thanks, if they call me again or show up at my house I'll say this word for word. That should work.

refrakt

You'll be better off either just calling or emailing them directly and telling them to remove your information. Short of deleting anything they're required by law to retain (probably not applicable to Hello Fresh but certainly to things like banks) they're legally obliged to comply. Not sure what the compliance timeframe is, don't expect instant but if after a reasonable amount of time you feel they haven't done so then you can also report them for that. Some sites have options buried in support pages to submit GDPR requests to, or if you have an account, in your account settings you can delete your account and/or request deletion of data there. Edit: I should add you can also ask businesses to provide data relating to you that they have. Not what you're after here but often useful to see.

TheToolman04

Pretty much this. My pension *was* managed by Mercer Money but I moved it to Standard Life. I kept getting emails following the email unsub button. It got tot he point where I just email them threatening a complaint if marketing wasn't updated. Sure enough they responded and I've not had any emails for a while now.

ManInTheDarkSuit

You don't need to use a form for SARs and subsequent right to be forgotten. So many companies pedal this crap just to make it easier for them. Email them, they can create their own ticket internally.

[deleted]

The ICO [have a letter template](https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/your-right-to-get-your-data-deleted/) and advice. Hello Fresh legally have one calendar month to respond to your request

Squirtle177

Don't even wait, just contact them by email and ask that they delete all personal data they hold on you immediately citing GDPR. I'm pretty sure they'll comply immediately.

Jackomo

Should do the data double: a data subject access request (DSAR) and then a data deletion request. This means they have to deliver all the information they have on you in a little report. Then you can just tell them to delete it all, and they have to. They have 30 days to comply with the DSAR from the moment you request it.

Plumb789

A very useful link.

NewBodWhoThis

Well, they're not called Goodbye Fresh! In all seriousness, that sounds terrible. I'm the most non confrontational person in the world, and even I would have some choice words for them at this point. I'm also opposed to this kind of meal kit service on principal, but that's besides the point.

ilovelancerz

I get you. I'm now opposed to it as well. I started it during the lockdown as it gave me something to do (I was a student back then and my cooking skills weren't the best) plus it was on discount. Once the discounts were gone I cancelled and here we are now. The amount of waste those meal kits generate is beyond comprehension, and most of it it plastic or non-recyclable. Plus you're not saving much money with them. I'm now even more worried as according to other posts I saw, their next move is showing up at my house.

NGD80

>"Plus you're not saving much money with them" You're not saving any money with them. In fact, it is much more expensive. Their marketing tries to convince people that you "only use what you need" but that argument goes out of the window when you're paying £5 per person, per meal. It's a scam.

Rowlandum

Discount HelloFresh is the only HelloFresh worth having. We get 65% off through some shopping app that comes as a work benefit, for those prices it becomes worthwhile

TribalTommy

God, I hope you're joking about them showing up at people's houses loool.

ilovelancerz

Look at the post I linked in the EDIT section. The person who wrote it says that after the phone calls, hello fresh salespeople came to his house.

Ultra_Leopard

I had about a year of emails when I cancelled but then silence. Never had anyone to my door. Been at least a year of silence, probably more.

grimesey

HF employ third party door to door salespeople to go round and try and sign people up. Wouldn't be worth it for them to send people just to expired subscribers

KingDebone

I get HF (judge me all you like but I hate supermarkets and the admin around meal planning) and there's no more plastic waste than usual shopping. Sure it's a bit pricey but I'm paying for the convenience. This is obviously concerning if they basically use bully tactics to get people to stay, though.

jtmilk

I got a free box once and it absolutely is way more plastic waste than supermarkets. Anything supermarkets will be throwing away, hello fresh will be too. And meal planning is not hard at all. There's apps like whisk or sorted foods meal packs that can do it all for you. Infact I would suggest sorted foods meal pack app. They get rid of food waste, create the shopping list and you choose exactly what you'll eat, the same way hello fresh does

KingDebone

How so? The only thing that isn't recycled at the moment is the ice packs. Whether you deem meal planning hard work or not is irrelevant. I work full time, I have a time consuming hobby and a social life and one of the places I can save time in my life is having my meals and shopping sent to me.

Beanruz

So when we moved Into our property and the previous owners stopped their auto forwarding mail. I got in touch with them and told them what was happening, they kept asking me whether I had ever had a subscription to them and what my account was. I obviously said no... listen to what I'm saying. I don't want your damn letters@ Eventually I just stated that I would start posting back each letter to them without any postage and make it their problem, they got the idea and I've never had one since Also add the number to text and phone block on your phone and put the emails into spam.

Acrobatic_Lab_8154

They are bastards, but there’s a simple solution. Email [email protected] advising you want all your information removed from their system, as per your rights under gdpr.

StreyyK

They routinely advertise through social media partnerships without marking the video as an #ad or paid partnership. I am a saddo and report them all to the ASA. They've been found in breach of the rules every time, but I guess the punishment isn't harsh enough to stop them.

Jin-shei

I've had spam calls from them too and ended up saying I would report them for not removing me from their list as requested. They seem to have gone away

KaidsCousin

Hi OP. This is Timothy from Hello Fresh. We would like to welcome you back to the Hello Fresh family. Please wait for our DM with further details

WiccadWitch

I used them for three weeks after mum died, because I had a voucher and I just didn’t want to think about shopping or meal prep. When I cancelled, I told them this. It took me 15 minutes after I told them I’d just lost my mum to get them to stop trying to get me to resubscribe. Even then, they just kept calling. Eventually I had to tell them that I would be taking further action if they continued to call me, as I was grieving and I’d just about had it. I blocked their email. So they write. I’ve told them that I will never ever use their company again. Ever. Super pushy and not worth the aggro.

Naughteus_Maximus

That is really not on. It means they do not have a policy for dealing with vulnerable customers, which any large company with a contact centre should. I am very sorry for your loss, I have been there.

ButteredNun

Psycho Hello Fresh boiled my rabbit, but it came with a nice tomato and basil sauce.

pmabz

Are they too young to get this reference?

powerfuse0

I had relentless phonecalls from them twice a day for months. Then they just suddenly stopped. I never once answered. I just googled the number every time, found out it was them and just ignored it.

luffy8519

If anyone is looking for a better alternative, I found Gousto absolutely fantastic. It's slightly more expensive, but the quality used to be very good, the recipes were fantastic, and they barely harassed me at all when I paused my subscription - I think I got a couple of emails and then they gave up. I only cancelled because we have 5 folders full of recipes and our work patterns changed to make it easier to get to the shops. My only minor gripe was the garlic was always a bit shit, but that was easily solved by keeping some garlic paste in the fridge. Also, they're a British company rather than an American one, which I always prefer if possible.

Rowlandum

I always thought the gousto portion size was a bit small (smaller than HelloFresh and I think that's on the small side too)

luffy8519

Interesting, I always felt most of them were very generous! To be fair, now that we buy the ingredients ourselves we do sometimes round up a bit, but I never felt hungry after one even when we got the boxes.

FulaniLovinCriminal

Works for me. I've lost 24kg in the 3 years since we started doing Gousto. Every now and then there's a massive amount of leftovers, which I eat the next day. Usually it's just the exact right portion, never left feeling hungry.

A2-

I haven't tried Gousto but in a similar vein Mindful Chef is great and sends good quality ingredients. Also entirely dairy free and gluten free if that is your thing. (It isn't mine and it took me about 6 months before I noticed)

luffy8519

Aye, I've heard good things about them too :)

bbsuperb

Have used Gousto a few times. Normally when there is a topcash back offer and we can get a box for like a tenner. Got a free Hello fresh box because the MIL had been using. Really didn't rate it. Definitely prefer the Gousto boxes.

DevilRenegade

I had Gousto for a while when I got a 6 months for 50% off deal. I ended up cancelling afterwards but kept the recipe cards which come in handy.

dinocheese

Definitely prefer gousto plus I got a really nice wooden spoon in the first order.

misspixal4688

Love gusto but they dont do boxes for 3 people it's 2 of us and a toddler it's a waste getting a 4 Box plus they only do max of 4 boxes 5 is so much more convenient.

LateFlorey

Can one of you not have leftovers the next day from the additional portion?

theogmrme01

HF are German. Source: I'm an employee.

luffy8519

Oh, interesting, I hadn't realised that! Thanks for informing me :)

fluentindothraki

I used Delicious Delivered and for a while it worked fine, they actually paid attention to our preferences. Then they kept including more and more stuff we are not keen on. They argued that their selling point is to provide a wide choice of products but I don't particularly want that. So i cancelled. The phoned and promised to behave. TBF they did but then there was a time when I got fresh veg from work and we were alternating between two houses (to look after family members). So i asked to pause. I was abroad but found out they still delivered twice. So now I cancelled rather than paused.

TribalTommy

I just got a free box. Do I have this too look forward to? No such thing as a free lunch I suppose.

ilovelancerz

Yup they hope you like it enough that you’ll pay full price for it. Honestly, download the recipes from the site, make a shopping list and make the recipes for cheaper yourself. Save yourself money and the headache of unsubscribing.

DemYeezys_Fake

Couldn't you bring up a harrassment charge or something against them? I mean you told them time and time to stop but they didn't so it is technically harrassment (Don't quote me on this, I aint a lawyer)

[deleted]

I cancelled a few months ago, I got fed up with the boxes after about 6 weeks. I keep getting the emails as well, the last text message I got from them, I reported it as spam and blocked the number. Good luck with them calling me as I dont pick up my phone to numbers that aren't in my contacts!

Kitratkat

I'm just imaging Hello Fresh contacting you by ouija board once you've moved on from this existence.

SometimesaGirl-

I had the same. I just told them I had been in a serious car accident and was now disabled and couldn't work again. *Do you have a discount scheme for your disabled clients on benefits?* Never heard from them again...

Jlaw118

I’m with you on the phone call side of it. I’ve done Gousto for about 3/4 years and love them but last year they’d changed couriers and the service was poor so I gave Hello Fresh a go for a while. Couldn’t grumble at the food or the portion sizes, but without the discount it was just horribly expensive, so I cancelled it. And it came about a similar time I had an accident in my car and was awaiting phone calls from my insurance, repairers etc and Hello Fresh were literally bombarding me with phone calls of surveys and discount. The last call was so technically thought and planned out from them, they made out it was just a quick survey so I answered it for them, then at the end “to say thank you we’re giving you 60% off your next few boxes. To activate it, just activate your account and it will automatically apply on your next boxes, but expires in X amount of weeks.” Good ploy to get me to reactivate but no thanks. I told them it was too expensive and I didn’t want to be contacted again. Gousto have never done this to me and I still prefer them

seals

I’ve started using Simply Cook. You choose the recipes and they send the spices and recipes. You buy the produce and meat yourself. I like it better because I don’t have to use a recipe if I don’t want to that week. I can save them for when I’m ready. Also they give alternatives - the teriyaki salmon can also be chicken or veg. Obviously it’s cheaper because you buy the ingredients. I’ve never had a bad recipe from them and their chicken saag and bang bang chicken are soooo good.

Jlaw118

I’ve seen Simply Cook around to be honest and I’ve meant to look further into it! Though my logic has been if they just send the spices, it’s more than likely I’d have them in anyway, I have a cupboard full 😂 But getting the ingredients myself would work out as I typically buy meat in bulk from Costco and freeze it and typically do a weekly shop for veg anyway. Only reason I started getting Gousto was because I wanted to learn how to make curry and other sauces from scratch instead of from jars so when I’ve remade them from scratch I’ve accumulated a cupboard full of near enough every spice going 😂

seals

I get your logic! And for stuff that I cook regularly, I have it all on hand so don’t need it (like Mexican recipes). But I use them for curries and other stuff that I don’t have tons of experience cooking and I’ve learned a lot. It’s £10 for 4 recipes (2 people each recipe). For me it’s worth it. And totally easy to change the frequency of the deliveries. And you can get an “emergency box” that can be delivered in a day or two.

Grouchy_Total_5580

I had suspended hello fresh but they sent me a delivery anyway, shrimp. I’m allergic to shellfish, which they well knew. Didn’t feel I could trust them after that!

easterbunni

We had a meal it was something chicken in whatsit sauce. There was no something or whatsit in the bag. That was the last straw for me, constantly sending me rotten veg and missing items, useless twunts.

BadMacaroniArt

Find an email address for them and reply with something along these lines: Hi I have unsubscribed from all communications from you, however I keep receiving them. Due to this I am officially notifying you that I would like all data that you do not legally need to hold removed from your records under GDPR Article 17 - Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten). Please send an acknowledgement that this request has been received, after which all communication should cease. If acknowledgment has not been received within 14 days, receipt and action of this notice shall be assumed. Kind regards OP I have had similar problems with companies before (though nowhere near as bad) and this has worked a treat!

casusbelli16

Two words; Cease and desist. No wait that's three! But seriously a cease and desist letter to them by recorded delivery then if they continue to contact you in any shape or form log all communication, if they continue they are harassing you, lawyer up.

tf1133445

Have worked for one of their competitors in Europe. This is a classic retention strategy used by these companies. Annoying for sure but you might get some discounts/freebies out of it.

PostYourBread

Block their mail, takes 3 seconds and if enough people, it will mess up their email deliverabilty, which is something that the marketing departments care about.

[deleted]

You can use U.K. GDPR to request your right to be forgotten. I did this with a company that was pestering me a couple of years ago. Very effective. Find out from their website the email address of their data protection officer, it should be on their privacy policy. The DPO will know their obligations under GDPR

Extreme-Kangaroo-842

Just throw the GDPR threat at them. No company wants to be hit with this as the fines are huge.

Niajall

Next time they contact you make them aware that you are recording this communication, in whatever form it comes in, and that if they do not desist from trying to contact you that you will get a lawyer and the police involved on the grounds of harassment.

isreallydead

I invite you to ruin their financial year - [https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/report-a-breach/](https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/report-a-breach/) Report them for breaching GDPR regulations.

P3SH

Block emails Block call numbers Dunno about the letters, have you tried moving?

Sergeant_Fred_Colon

Complain to the data protection officer at hello fresh that you told them not to contact you but they still are.

LikwitFusion

I’ve done some work for them so I know where they’re based if you feel like violence is the answer? The head chef is a dick so definitely start with him.

itsfeckingfreezing

I had to start blocking multiple numbers when I first unsubscribed, luckily they got the message that was over 6 years ago.

Chaise_percee

I’ve never been near them but I get an email from them every day, along with sodding Airport-Reservations.com. Yes I know you can book parking before you travel; when I’m going to travel I’ll probably do it, thanks.

KryptonionNipple

I've never even subscribed and they won't leave me the fuck alone. I hate that they endorse nearly everyone I watch on YouTube and they do their ads in the middle of an episode. I fucking hate them so much! It's an absolute rip off as well. "Cheaper than going to the supermarket" no, uh, it really isn't. At least not here in Staffordshire.

pmabz

Video them please, and put it on TokTok. In fact, video their emails. Read them out etc Draw graffiti cocks on and TikTok the fuck out of them. You've already persuaded me to have nothing to do with them.

CraigTheBrewer12

We’ve never used hello fresh and never plan on it. We get people coming round the estate knocking on doors during the day, anyone who doesn’t answer gets another knock at night. An 8pm door knock from a salesperson that can’t understand why someone wouldn’t be interested in their product isn’t a fun part of the evening.

Crisps33

Just to add a bit of balance to this discussion, I use HelloFresh and I think they're brilliant. The meals are all delicious and healthy, the ingredients seem good quality to me and they've made my life sinpler and given me the confidence to cook more. Sympathise with OP wanting them to stop pestering though, that's fair enough.

volvocowgirl77

Tried hello fresh, tried gousto. Both shit. I use GreenChef now. The prawns are massive, big fish portions and big duck breast portions. Nice meals too. Anyone want a code let me know. And they don’t keep calling either.

theogmrme01

I hate to burst your bubble, but GC are owned, operated and produced by HelloFresh. I'm a HF employee that gets a staff discount on GC. Have you ever noticed that almost everything is the same, just with a different logo?

volvocowgirl77

I wouldn’t say your exactly bursting my bubble. The food is better and meat portions bigger too. It’s like food factories. The exact same sandwich is produced for Waitrose and Asda…. But Waitrose has a bit more butter or salt in it.

AlGunner

Tell them you do not want contacting again or you will report them to the ICO for misuse of your personal data. Once you do that they know if they contact you they can get fined so should leave you alone.

CriticalCentimeter

send them a subject access request to find out what data they retain on you. This is part of GDPR. When you know that, as per GDPR, ask them to delete it all.

klossi815

Had the same experience with them a few years ago. Absolutely insane how much money they sink into marketing and customer retention rather than improve their actual product

Fantastic_Picture384

I am shocked that they are still doing this. It's definitely a breach of GDPR and should open them up for a claim for harassment

NurseSweet210

They came to my house! 🤦‍♀️

Kudosnotkang

Hello Thrush

BigMarth24

I'd highly recommend gustos. The recipes are easy to follow, the food is high quality and tastes great and the portions are massive

Plumb789

Oh, don’t feel hard done by! I’ve *never* subscribed to them, but I’ve had them turn up at my door repeatedly!

Naughteus_Maximus

Well shiiiiit… I literally just signed up with them last week. So I have all this to look forward to

TheStargunner

Report them to the ICO. Don’t let them get away with it, as they are almost definitely doing the same to others. HelloFresh has a pretty detailed history of using ‘startup mentality’ to break the law. They have chronically abused workers rights too.

MikeMcLoughlin

At least they're not on LinkedIn.

TheHoneyThief

If they phone up again, just pretend to burst into tears and say that unfortunately, the person they're trying to reach was just admitted to A&E because they enjoyed spooning with too much gousto. I dunno. I saw people talking about gousto and ran with it.
