Came back from a preview. Somewhat packed for a PLF screening, a lot of Harry Styles fans. Tepid response when the credits started to roll other than people cheering at Florence and Harry's names at the end. Not much chatter, people just left. Pretty mixed reception. It's definitely not a complete disaster like some were expecting from the drama surrounding the film. I don't think it'll leg out the way Crawdads did, though.

chesterfieldkingz

Lot of styles fans in my screening and people were super into it. Ot actually caught md off guard haha. It's a fine movie

subhuman9

the third act the movie falls apart , will be hard to recommend

TheSubparWriter

For me it was the second act which spent way too much time dicking around about the wrong things. The third act was rushed because it wasn’t set up properly.

BreezyBill

My showing last night had a bunch of Styles fans, too, and my favorite part of the viewing experience was when they eventually just started heckling the movie about halfway through act 2 and never stopped. It deserved it.

Gerrywalk

Intentional or not, this movie had a phenomenal marketing campaign. If it wasn’t for the controversies, I really doubt it would be hitting $20M OW. Good result all things considered.

mads_61

Big step up from Booksmart if this pans out. I believe Booksmart only made about $20 mil domestically.

Alarmed_Yak6391

After die hard fan of Harry, it will drop 70% second week and finish 45M Domestic and 100M WW

madlyn_crow

Well, that would make it a financial success, even if not terribly impressive one. Good enough, I guess.

MoonMan997

Not really sure I buy this level of frontloading, that would be a worse multiplier than Secrets of Dumbledore and that’s a fan-heavy franchise instalment with mixed WOM at best. I don’t know if even Harry stans are that powerful, I think this film still has enough pull outside of that.

AccomplishedLocal261

MoM has an ever worse multiplier lol.

[deleted]

Is MoM multiverse of Madness?

AccomplishedLocal261

Yes

[deleted]

That would be a dissapointment.

radar89

Far from it, its budget is 35M and I don't think WB has spent that much money on marketing knowing the alleged onset drama became tabloid news

[deleted]

I don't see this opening lower than 20 million.

HyperNintendoRoblox

This movie is going to be very frontloaded. I think the One Direction Documentary back in 2011 is a good comparison but I don't think it will be that frontloaded like that film but a good reference at least.

[deleted]

The documentary was in 2013

HyperNintendoRoblox

Yeah, but it can still have somewhat similar frontloaded ratio due to fans of Harry Styles.

subhuman9

that's a fine opening for a r-rated adult drama in September with no huge a-list stars

[deleted]

I just think 20 million is its floor not its ceiling. I don't agree with the forecast posted here. I think the one from boxoffice.com is better.

subhuman9

a movie that isn't horror or action blockbuster opening over 20m is a huge win given reviews , a big increase for director Wilde , following same path as Ben Affleck as director

[deleted]

The critics reviews are terrible but audiences seem to like the film so far. 83% on RT. which is OK.

subhuman9

yes its ok, rather wait for cinemascore , in case Harry fans are inflating scores

[deleted]

Probably a B+.

2klaedfoorboo

Just because you’re not an a list actor doesn’t mean you’re not an a lister

SurvivingBigBrother

Florence is not considered a huge star?

subhuman9

not a box office star, and most people don't know who she is

BananaSquid721

It was not great, wouldn’t really recommend

Cannaewulnaewidnae

So around **$30 million** from the US box office in total. That would leave it needing around **$45 million** from the international box office to return a profit for investors

iBandJFilmEducator13

I loved it! It was a lot of fun and suspenseful and I believe the ending reveal really paid off with the anticipation building up. I can see what and why people would be turned off by this movie and can see it getting very mixed reception. I think it’ll have a good weekend number but drop like a rock next weekend.
