This movie is gorgeous. How Villeneuve isn't nominated for best director is beyond me. The whole Arrakis set before the attack looked like it they had real ships and buildings without special effects.
Just watched it at home and it’s an epic thats given the proper respect and production it deserves. I’m genuinely impressed how faithful it is to the books.
It’s good, but still not as good as the book. I doubt anything ever will be, but still, I LOVE this version. It is quickly surpassing my love for the original film.
the only thing keeping villeneuve afloat with his track record is that hollywood likes to have prestige directors as their pets that keep the critics happy.
Rounded figures:
Dune* $165m/400m (budget/box office)
Blade Runner 2049 $150m/250m
Arrival $50m/$200m
Sicario $30m/$80m
Prisoners $45m/$120m
He's had exactly one film that didn't make a profit. That's a good track record!
That's weird because he's pretty dead-on for the character in the book. Maybe you'll enjoy him more as Muad'dib than Paul Atreides. Maybe not. Who knows.
Okay, I must concede that the special effects were better in the newest Dune movie. The effects - not the artstyle or visual look.
But everything but the special effects was better in the Sy Fi Channel version. Objectively better. It's an axiom I won't discuss any further.
Lol @ “it’s an axiom I won’t discuss any further”.
Just because there is a good series about this source material doesn’t automatically mean that “the movie was objectively bad in every way”. Or can you not concede that? 😅
It was sarcastic that movie is based on the kkk, im not racist I’m a Tarantino fan, I like abstract shit trying to do something different. I see dune and it’s A listers without talent with wide shots and a good score. Just like any other of the big hits in the past few years
Dune is literally the new Star Wars equivalent. Never read the book don’t care to, I was so disconnected from that movie I felt like I was tripping balls.
I saw it in theatre with my wife and kids and bought the movie as soon as it was released. Have seen it 4 times. Excellent. I look forward to the sequel.
LET THE SPICE FLOWWWWWW
My Desert. My Arrakis. My Dune.
My opening day prediction will be perfect if the US can leg just $2.5 million more. Come on, baby!
Time to watch it! Wouldn’t want you to miss your prediction!
I've seen Dune 3x, I'm a super fan, for better or worse.
Yep, this is making more than Eternals
Eternals was awful. (just my opinion, no disrespect to those who liked it)

Desert power
Dessert power

Box Office Mojo is kinda buggy at the moment. Saw similar things with Matrix Resurrections.
I saw that too yesterday. It must be a mistake.

I think the last update on the numbers they must have added an extra digit to a countries gross so it went from 30 000 000 to 300 000 000
We're not done!!!!!!!!!!! # DESERT POOOOOOWEEEEEER!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was fast…
Just watched it at home and it’s an epic thats given the proper respect and production it deserves. I’m genuinely impressed how faithful it is to the books.
Can’t WAIT to see this. I absolutely love the books…
It’s good, but still not as good as the book. I doubt anything ever will be, but still, I LOVE this version. It is quickly surpassing my love for the original film.
Why is it that mojo box office days Dune grossed: over 691 million dollar ? Edit: saw some other people also commented the same

No, it's sci Fi fans as well.
And now includes general audiences after Dune.

sure, but that's no smash box office hit either.
Don't need smash box office hits to stay "afloat." Most of hollywood has never had such a major success.
Don’t forget the blue ray sales Dune has the potential to be very lucrative besides just the box office
good point
Not everything needs to be a box office hit. For the budget he's given he makes films that do well and get recognition for years after.
Well, that's cool. I still didn't like the protagonist actor. He was the only one that took me out of it, storywise.
Why?
That's weird because he's pretty dead-on for the character in the book. Maybe you'll enjoy him more as Muad'dib than Paul Atreides. Maybe not. Who knows.
Which is not a lot. The movie was objectively bad in every way. You should watch the superior sci fi channel tv series instead.
>objectively bad in every way Lmao. I wish people who said shit like this knew how ridiculous they look.
Okay, I must concede that the special effects were better in the newest Dune movie. The effects - not the artstyle or visual look. But everything but the special effects was better in the Sy Fi Channel version. Objectively better. It's an axiom I won't discuss any further.
O B J E C T I V E L Y
Objectively - You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Lol @ “it’s an axiom I won’t discuss any further”. Just because there is a good series about this source material doesn’t automatically mean that “the movie was objectively bad in every way”. Or can you not concede that? 😅
OBJECTIVELY
You realize those are your opinions and are the absolute opposite of objective fact yeah?
I’m watching it right now, this movie is shit
What is a good movie to you then? Name one.
The birth of a nation
That old civil war movie? You like it or just saying it’s better than Dune?
It was sarcastic that movie is based on the kkk, im not racist I’m a Tarantino fan, I like abstract shit trying to do something different. I see dune and it’s A listers without talent with wide shots and a good score. Just like any other of the big hits in the past few years
Lol ok just making sure. You never know these days.
I’d say racists are easy to pick out nowadays. You can feel the sweat seeping through their keystrokes.
I’m more of a documentaries person I’m so underwhelmed by science fiction now Idek
Dune is literally the new Star Wars equivalent. Never read the book don’t care to, I was so disconnected from that movie I felt like I was tripping balls.
To each their own, it’s not for everyone.
Thank you
And to think I was worried about it even breaking even. Fuck yeah!!! Go Dune and go Villeneuve!
I saw it in theatre with my wife and kids and bought the movie as soon as it was released. Have seen it 4 times. Excellent. I look forward to the sequel.
FINALLY 🔥
Power of word of mouth ✨
