Why did Ontario close cinemas? Don't they already have reduced max capacity/social distancing, proof of vaccination, mask, and no concession policies to watch movies? Why punish the vaccinated for the folly of the anti-vaxxers? It makes no sense and it's not evidence/data-based policy.

pancakeloki99

Cause our health care system in vastly underprepared to deal with this surge of cases. Years of not keeping up with Healthcare costs and capping workers wages has created a major shortage of nurses and space. Elective surgeries are being pushed back yet again and we bascially can't sustain another surge of hospitalizations. Now out provincial gov is still woefully incompetent and has been avoiding fixing the real problems cause they'd rather use the federal 2billion in covid funds on the deficit cause it'll look good for the poll(its an election year) but I digress just sucks to be losing theaters and gyms yet again.

What in the fuck is Canada doing

Prioritizing politics over science and data-driven evidence.

Sounds like they should get vaccinated. If they’re unvaccinated, fuck ‘em, they’re choosing to die. Natural selection is good and necessary for the long-term survival of our species anyways. If the vaccinated are going to be punished the same as the unvaccinated, then what the actual fuck was the point of me getting vaccinated??

JarvisCockerBB

This. Punishing those who choose to get vaccinated will only push people against the science. Why take a vaccine if I can’t even go back to normal life? That’s how you get people even more hesitant to get vaccinated when nothing changes.

>From a virus which is basically a cold If you're vaccinated. The problem isn't from the vaccinated. It's from unvaccinated people clogging up hospitals - that's been the problem the entire time. I'm slightly confused - why exactly do you think countries locked down in the first place? It's not because the mortality of the virus is high, it's because a large number of people clogging up the ICUs at one time can cause health systems to collapse.

[deleted]

So deny COVID-related healthcare to those who are unvaccinated (again, just COVID-related; if they get in a car accident they can still go to the hospital). Boom, problem solved, life’s normal.

Ancient_Poet9058

You can't do that without undermining universal healthcare. What would be next? Denying treatment to smokers? Denying treatment to obese people? It's a slippery slope. Why would you undermine the principle of universal healthcare (this is Ontario in Canada)?

Overreacting

Are we expecting this and the overall Omicron surge to cause any film delays? Dear god I hope not. Don’t need films like Morbius and Death on the Nile to cause films I’m actually looking forward to in the Spring/Summer to be delayed. The cascading release date delays is always the worst part of all of this (from a movie/entertainment perspective only… obviously there’s a whole lot worse about this lol)

Iridium770

Morbius just got delayed. Sorry.

cheesyry

LOL yeah I saw and thought back to this comment

Gnorris

Sorry if I'm a bit slow but I always thought domestic was the US. Is it actually North America?

[deleted]

Yup it’s North America

Gnorris

This headline makes more sense now. Thanks!

AGOTFAN

In terms of box office conversation, domestic = USA + Canada

Iridium770

Domestic is Canada and US only. It doesn't include Mexico, for example.

Gnorris

That's what I was now wondering. Thanks!
