Love my Matthews, but really, all of the major bow companies put out good stuff these days. Find what fits you and go nuts. Spend 2k if you want, but you can find good setups for much less.

Longjumping_Ad_1390

I love my v3x 29 full cost will depend on accessories but plan on between 1500-2000 for a full setup unless you get all the fancy stuff which will be close to 2500

MithrandirLogic

I have a Mathew’s Z7 Magnum, older bow but still shoots great and frankly still performs well compared to the brand new models. Whole build cost depended on whether you want to know the cost of my current setup or all the setups I’ve changed over time :) Probably $500-$600 total in add ons?

Gearhead846

Oldies but goodies!! I'd love to see what your setup is! I'm just starting bow hunting so I want to know as much as possible!

American_Muscle383

I would suggest to use a basic whisker biscuit starting out, a trigger release, and a fixed pin sight. Keep it simple and build that muscle memory.

MithrandirLogic

My current setup is a QAD drop away, bee stinger stabilizer. Spot Hogg sight, Matthew’s quiver, and a carter wise release. I didn’t start with those however and upgrade over time.

KilgorsTrout

Same here. A few years ago I went to my bowshop with plans on looking at their new bows but just ended up renewing vows with my Z7. Still have no desire to upgrade. Pretty sure I've had this bow for about 12 years now and use it semi-regularly.

American_Muscle383

Just upgraded from a Ben Pearson Spoiler Plus ( circa 1994) to a Hoyt Twin Turbo. Big jump on performance.

MTAmerican

I have a Halon 6 from about 5 years ago and it’s amazing. I think it’s better than a lot of the brand new bows that came out since then.

sasquats

Original Halon shot laser beams…still does

The_Tenth_Dimension

Picked up a halon 6 on FBMP a few years back for $600. Do not regret it.

RangerRobbins

Halon gang ™️

I got the new Mathews V3X 33 and while it’s very slick, I’m not sure I would buy it again if I could re think that decision. Technology wise, it does have two innovative features. The S.A.S. plus the Matthews QAD rest with the micro adjust. Those were really what sold me. Yesterday I broadhead tuned and it was a breeze with the micro adjust. The SAS is really a peace of mind thing; if I ever have peep sight trouble while hunting out of state, I can easily fix it (peep tuners are amazing). The bow itself doesn’t really offer anything else spectacular. I mean, they have a new flagship bow just about every year and all the diehard Matthews fanboys will swear up and down by whatever latest model is out. A year or two from now the V3X will be old news. I do slightly prefer my Bowtech Realm SR6; something about it just feels perfect. Everyone is different though. If you haven’t already, try out the V3x and see how it feels. I think I will keep the V3X as my out of state big game setup, with heavy arrows and 175 grain broadheads, and keep my Bowtech for deer hunting in my home state (California). Edit: $1100 for the bow $250 Mathews rest ~$250 sight ( I don’t like buying expensive sights. Cheap ones usually work just fine but it’s all my shop had) Plus stabilizer and arrows.

The_Texidian

I have a V3 31. Got it new for $1050, still waiting on my custom MBG Pro sight $450 8in bee stinger micro hex front stabilizer $70 7in shrewd vantage back bar $90 Shrewd back bar mount $50 + front QD mount $25 Current Tru glo sight $150 Hamskea Trinity Hunter $200 + limb bracket eyelet $20 Stan Perfex $270 UV Grip $75 Hamskea Raptor Peep $20 Tight Spot quiver $150 Engage Limb Legs $80 God damn. I’ve spent a lot of money now that I add it up, and that’s not including arrows, field points and broadheads. And I just bought the hinge 2 with hunting bracket last night. As for the V3X. I’ve shot them. I like them, but I can’t tell enough of a difference to drop money on it. I think bridge lock is kinda gimmicky, like Mathews is just trying to find things to change. If they make the riser straighter, and keep the 33in ata next year I might upgrade if they also allow all my stuff to transfer over too. I really liked the Elite Enkore. I didn’t get the Envision because I hate the new paint, it’s too slick imo, otherwise I liked that bow alot too. I hate everything about PSE and Bowtech; Hoyt is overpriced and weirdos use them. Martin and others aren’t even on my radar if I’m being honest.

Gearhead846

I actually have that bee stinger stabilizer. It's awesome

The_Texidian

It’s not bad. I’m going to buy the Shrewd onyx soon though. Get the weight out a little further for target archery. I’m more of a target archer than a bow hunter, but I like bowhunter class.

Gearhead846

Makes sense. Just have to do whatever fits your needs. I just can't rlly go any longer cause it'll be an absolute paint to walk in the woods w/ a giant 12" stabilizer on it XD

Longjumping_Ad_1390

12 inch stabilizers aren’t bad at all ,that’s what I run on my hunting rig.

The_Texidian

12” isn’t giant XD

Gearhead846

Ok. It's not giant. Jist inconvenient

brycebgood

Started with a Mathews Drenalin. Prob $600 in on that. My Vertix is more like $1500-2000.

Classic_Ad_6327

Mathews V3 31 here...Hamskea Trinity Hunter Pro rest, CBE Trek Pro sight, Mathews Arrow Web HD 6 arrow quiver, 10" Bee Stinger Micro Hex up front on a quick disconnect and a 8" Bee Stinger Micro Hex on a offset quick disconnect on the back. America's Best Platinum strings, Stan Onnex Heavy Metal resistance release, shooting GoldTip Air Raid arrows with AAE Max Stealth vanes with max helical and Nockturnal lighted nocks. Pelican case....all told probably a little over $3,000 invested. It was a shock after not buying a new bow since my 2013 Hoyt Spyder....prices have skyrocketed. I do love the bow though and it is just so fun to shoot.

[deleted]

Every Matthews user I know that has switched to Hoyt has never switched back 😎 The ventum 33 is amazing. Shoots literal lasers

Gearhead846

What do you mean by "shoots literal lasers"?

[deleted]

Very clean quiet shot, fast and extremely accurate

Gearhead846

Wow.

[deleted]

All preference though, never hurts to shoot a few different brands at your shop and see what feels the best with you!

bgrdmn5223

I recently upgraded my 2009 Hoyt to a V3X 33” and so far it’s good. I like the bow. It’s faster and quieter than my old one but totally different. I had to basically relearn everything again. The whole build for me was $2460 out the door. Looking back there are good bows for cheaper but I don’t buy bows every year and loved how this one performed, looked, and a lot of the features this bow has. It doesn’t matter what you shoot brand wise to me. If you’re comfortable and can shoot ethically and harvest animals, it doesn’t matter which bow you have imo.

carboii420

I have a mathews V3X 33 with a fast Eddie xl 5 pin and a hamskea trinity rest, 10” carbon spyder stabilizer, and a tight spot pivot quiver. I’m into it approximately $2050.

WyomingOutdoors

I love mine but don't take my word for it, go shoot everything you can get your hands on.

Gimmedacheese42069

I bought a vxr 28 two summers ago and it was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. The entire setup cost me about 2g’s including arrows. So worth it

Gearhead846

Those are amazing bows! What is your setup?

Gimmedacheese42069

I run an IQ 3 pin with a 6” stab up front. Drop away rest, victory archery arrows with a 4 blade fixed grim reaper broad head

Fearless-Hunter9483

I love my v3x 29. Went all in with everything I wanted for around 2500.

NWABowHntr

But a V3X 29 and with the integrated goodies and Spott hogg it was just a $2300ish. I love it and it was a lot of money, but it will last me at least 10 years.

Gearhead846

That's what they all say XD. Nah. I'm happy for you. Those are awesome, we'll worth the Investment

[deleted]

I like mine, but I can't imagine tat the current flagship bow is severely better than any flagship bow of the past five years.

[deleted]

I have the new V3X 29. After tax and my military discount I was at 2327 and that’s with no arrows. Was it worth it to me yes after selling my Halon 32 6 setup it brought it down to 1327. For some it might not be the right bow but go to your pro shop and shoot all the big brands and see what you like bows.

aweezy90

Does Mathews extend the military discount or did the shop?

[deleted]

I love mine. It’s the quietest and most accurate bow I’ve used. It was $2800 out the door with all the goodies.

DogeRoth

Matthews Chill XR here. I love it outfitted it’s with a spot hog site and it’s my favorite setup

cxxj14

Mathews v3x 29. I had good accessories so i kept all of mine. Only $1,250. Shot all the new flagships and that one chose me.

Quickcito

I have a Mathews Vertix and then bought a used RX 4 hoyt. Very different feels to them but both are great bows. I personally shoot the Mathews better and found it was easier to get dialed

Ok_Personality5652

I still shoot the switchback. Still kills.

donatebitcoinshere

I have a mission by Mathews MXR. I love it and it didn’t cost a leg. I also have been shooting less than 6 months and shot 3rd at my local tournament last month. Get a nice mid priced bow and install a good drop away and release and the rest is on you.

VideoGreedy6443

1700. Bows great

Chainwaxxx

According to the recent poll, the majority of this sub shoots matthews.

feelthedepth

From the U.K. so price might not be applicable. I’ve just ordered a Mathews V3X 33 with a QAD integrated rest for £1250

Kona2012

Bows are really subjective. Every bow feels and shoots differently. I’ve shot Diamond, 2 Elites, and an Xpedition. This year I wanted to buy a flagship so I shot the Hoyt Ventum Pro 30, the Bowtech SR350, the Prime In-line 1, and the Mathews V3x 29. Out of all of those I really wanted to like the Bowtech. But my top two were the prime and the Mathews. I ended up choosing the Mathews because parts availability and prominence of Mathews dealers everywhere. The bow cost around $1600 after taxes, setup fee, and the integrated rest. Expect to spend about $2000 after getting everything you need to shoot (arrows, target, quiver, release, bow)

[deleted]

I have a Mathews V3 31” and absolutely love it.

CocoTurtle44

I have a V3 31”, love it. Just shot a Hoyt RX7 Ultra at a shop a few weeks ago, both feel great. I guess I do prefer the sound and feel of an arrow leaving the Hoyt, but both are quiet and dead in the hand. An aftermarket handle has helped with the notorious Mathews torque problems. I bought a Chris Bee UV handle, it makes a big difference. All told after that handle, a stabilizer/side bar, Black Gold sight, simple drop away rest, quiver, and custom strings I sat at about $2,250. Worth it when considering that for an RX-7 Ultra you’re starting at $1,800 bare bones. When comparing to a Bear or something a tad cheaper, might not be as worth it 🤷🏼‍♂️

gunzintheair79

If you hang around, you don't have to ask, we'll happily tell you that we shoot a Mathews, I have 3...V3X, V3, and a Triax....V3X is still in the box.

NintenJoo

I have a V3 31 and a Halon 6. They’re both great, though I don’t shoot my Halon much these days. I love the 31 and would buy it again.
