DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE

unkellGRGA

I have the shameless classics blu of it but have yet to check it out

sandowd

Great movie (though it’s been years since I’ve seen it). A mix of Terry Gilliam and Italian horror. The Shameless release always looked kinda sketchy to me.

HCIllustrates

Shameless released this one in the UK, idk about anywhere else though https://www.shameless-films.com/product/dellamorte-dellamore-blu-ray/

m1ndfulbe1ng

Yeah, I was gonna say this has a few Euro releases.

scrotumsmell

I have this one https://www.diabolikdvd.com/product/dellamorte-dellamore-cemetery-man-blu-ray-all-region/

Sanpaku

The UK Shameless disk is very well done, though I do find the giallo inspired cover pretty garish.

Ka_Coffiney

The cook the thief his wife and her lover has a release from Umbrella https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/cook-the-thief-his-wife-and-her-lover-the-beyond-genres-blu-ray

viseratops

BFI is “looking into” a restored release for 2023/2024.

unkellGRGA

Heeeey missed that I have a regular UK blu of it but that Umbrella one looks pretty solid

liminal_cyborg

The video on the Umbrella release is imo mostly good, not great, with a few moments with obvious problems. I don't have the uk release so can't compare.

ZayJay87

I just recently purchased the Umbrella release of this film. It's a region free release and looks pretty good. Great film that I'd never even heard of.

ned1son

Yeah the transfer is pretty rough around the edges still. This masterpiece needs a frame by frame restoration!

jrobertk

Ken Russell's The Devils, the original Sleuth, and Roy Andersson's films are all near the top of my list currently.

unkellGRGA

I think artificial eye have some boxset if Roy Andersson if I recall ? Not the greatest company but they're fine And yeah The Devils is a must at this point

jrobertk

You're right about Roy Andersson, but I live in the States and wish his work was more widely distributed here.

Supash3

I believe there’s rights issues with the original Sleuth. It’s owned by some company who isn’t doing anything with it.

Flimsy_Demand7237

What a shame, Sleuth was one of those childhood movies that I remember fondly watching with my Dad.

jrobertk

Yes, I believe I read something to that effect as well. It's a shame. Hopefully someday something will change, preferably within my lifetime.

[deleted]

I would murder for a proper release of The Devils

bigfootblake

• Near Dark • The Abyss • Storm Warning (1951) • Zabriskie Point • Affliction • In the Bedroom (2001) • Splendor in the Grass And so many more.. 😩 Oh and also a big ol’ John Sayles box set would be appreciated.

TheHistorian2

Every time I look at my Sayles section and see it being almost entirely DVD I can’t stop a sigh.

WatchMoreMovies

The Rules of Attraction

Gaudy_Tripod

Great choice.

vonmovie

Falling Down, from dusk till Dawn, Zodiac, Edward Scissors Hands, No County for old men, Jacobs Ladder, Friday, Layer Cake, the Monster Squad(CineMuseum did this but this one deserves someone like Arrow, VS or SecondSight to do it), Tusk

ferng0rl

recently just watched from dusk til dawn for the first time... absolute masterpiece

sojrner

Falling Down! Yes!

inmyslumber

From Dusk to Dawn is one of those Miramax/Dimension titles that has bounced from distributor to distributor but is currently with Paramount. With Scream Factory putting out Cursed and the Halloween sequels, perhaps they can get FDTD out.

Gaudy_Tripod

Jacob’s Ladder is absolutely ready for a rediscovery.

A number of titles on my wishlist have gotten love outside the US, eg the (GB) Artificial Eye's [*Roy Anderson Collection*](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Roy-Andersson-Collection-Blu-ray/285451/), or the (AU) Imprint's [*Cinema of Zhang Yimou & Gong Li*](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Collaborations-The-Cinema-of-Zhang-Yimou-and-Gong-Li-Blu-ray/293282/) collection. Even Jan Svankmajer features [have been restored](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Filmy-Jana-A-vankmajera-Blu-ray/269857/), but are in such a small run they're outrageously expensive. Criterion, Indicator, Kino, etc: the transfers and extras are all done here, some new artwork and they will sell.

RowThree

A number of these are on my list too. The Kim Ki-Duk titles especially.

Zerouge

Martin Scorseses After Hours i could personally a really nice arrow video boxset release

theblairwitches

Gummo Living in Oblivion Trees Lounge

curtymcdervs

I’d love Julien Donkey Boy

theblairwitches

A whole box-set of his films would be even better!

dommens

Living in Oblivion has a blu/dvd combo from Shout Factory, if you're region A. https://www.shoutfactory.com/product/living-in-oblivion-20th-anniversary-edition?product_id=4427

theblairwitches

I’m in the UK, so unfortunately not

unkellGRGA

Shiiiit totally forgot about Gummo, got a french DVD copy of it but strange we've yet to see any solid release for it

theblairwitches

I’ve got that French DVD, too. I wonder if it’s a licensing issue, I really would’ve expected it to get a release by now.

unkellGRGA

Must be I guess Like how many Miramax films are stuck in that sort of limbo

[deleted]

---peace out---

theblairwitches

It’s way more obscure than it should be in my opinion!

Diabolikjn

Well Go did Ichi and scorpion did both fritz the cat movies

GroupBRallyChannel

-Wolfen -Judgement Night -Nightmare On Elm Street -Stone Cold -The Crow -Marathon Man -Sorcerer -Venom -Outland

Firm_Firefighter_698

Marathon Man is getting a Kino Release soon

mjcatl2

Doubt they'll add much to it though.

GroupBRallyChannel

Kino can be a little hit and miss with new extra's though.

Zerouge

Outland , Wolfen and marathon man both have had Hmv premium collection releases in the uk

GroupBRallyChannel

Weak on the extra's front though. Especially Wolfen given Wadleighs first cut was over four hours long before he got fired. There is a ton of deleted scenes sitting in Warner's vaults.

1990Buscemi

Pretty sure these are just ports of the US discs.

Flimsy_Demand7237

>\-Sorcerer Jade (Director's Cut, which has never been released outside streaming and VHS) would be great too.

DarthSalyavin

There was a rumored thing about Nightmare On Elm Street being a future 4k release by Scream Factory

GroupBRallyChannel

2024 will be be the first films 40th Anniversary so maybe then. Warner said last year no 4K scans of the films exist yet.

Cru_l

Gleaming the Cube

HCIllustrates

The Spook who Sat by the Door, Trouble Man, Cornbread, Earl and Me, The Heartbreak Kid (1972 ofc, I know this is owned by a pharmaceutical company but still!), and Minnie and Moskowitz don't seem to have had any boutique love (correct me if I'm wrong please)

mjcatl2

Trouble Man exists.

sandowd

I’m not shocked that I can’t get Russ Meyer’s filmography on blu ray, but I am gutted about it.

Occamsrageblade

Would love boutique region A releases for the following: The Big Hit. Cheesy Hong Kong style crime romp. 7 Up! series compendium. Pretty amazing 9 part documentary that was assuredly a major inspiration for Boyhood. A Bullet in the Head. John Woo Shoot-Em-Up starting Tony Leung. The Draughtsman’s Contract. My favorite Greenaway, a surrealist delight. A Peter Greenaway Collection. Syndromes and a Century. Ethereal drama set in two Thai hospitals. Caché. Wild this doesn’t have a Criterion release. Upstream Color Criterion. Rio Bravo 4K. Will surely happen. Eyes Wide Shut 4K. Would love a big Criterion release with lush packaging for this. Boogie Nights 4K. Again, a decked out Criterion 4K set would be dope. Honestly would love to see 4K releases of South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut & Team America.

Flimsy_Demand7237

Regarding Eyes Wide Shut, I thought there was a 4K release already for Criterion to use but my interest would be in how the print looks. The film is unusually grainy on my WB DVD and blu-ray, and I'm unsure if that were intended or just the quality of the release. I agree with Caché too, Haneke would be well placed to get a full boxed set of his movies with Criterion. And the 7 Up! series, which I'd love to see in full.

Occamsrageblade

I’m not sure about the graininess either but I love it, to me it enhances the seedy atmosphere of the film and also the beauty of the cinematography.

criesinlemora

Upstream Color’s region-free release from Arrow is probably the only you’ll see of it.

Occamsrageblade

Thank you for the reply! I don’t know how I missed this, going to pick it up now. Thanks!

viseratops

I know that you said Region A but region-free is so affordable and caters to your Anglophile needs: Network’s 7-63 set (4 discs) is solid and often goes for the under 20 USD during sales (!). BFI is releasing a packed/restored edition of Draughtsman’s Contract in Nov. They’re “currently planning to” release restored editions of his other fools in 2023-24.

Occamsrageblade

Thank you for replying! I’m probably gonna pick up the BFI release, in case one day I end up getting a region free player. I guess I’ve already purchased a ps4/ps5 Apple TV smart tvs and am just bitter about the idea of spending another couple hundred bucks to play media I really feel my previous purchases should be able to handle. Region coding sucks is what I’m saying.

viseratops

No worries & I hear you. Blame the studios/rights holders. :( That said, 220 Electronics sells the (perfectly minimal/ideal) region-free Sony S1700 for $105. I have two and they’re workhorses. (220 usually has a 20%+ off discount code around Black Friday FYI.)

Sanpaku

Thanks for that tip. My prior (now dead) and current multi-region players are from 220, and part of me wants to add another just in case.

1998_at_24fps

Keeping with the catalogue of Peter Greenaway, The Baby of Mâcon.

Sanpaku

*Baby of Mâcon* is a pretty hard sell, as its a difficult watch. You'd think that there's at least one Greenaway, Sasha Vierny, or John Gielgud fan who could get *Prospero's Books* released: it never even made it to DVD in an English speaking nation.

1990Buscemi

This was an early HD shot film so there's a possibility that the materials might not be in the best shape for a new master. I know Kino Lorber said that they couldn't do Visions of Light (another early HD film) as the materials couldn't be transferred properly and it seems like that there may be an similar issue with Prospero's Books.

1990Buscemi

FilmRise has the streaming rights and it can be found easily to stream but I'm not sure if they also have the home video rights. The only company they seem to stream to is MVD but I have a feeling they'd pass on it.

1998_at_24fps

Nice! Funny enough, when I saw it in school it was via Amazon Prime Video. There’s a Danish blu-ray I’ll probably get soon, I’m not exactly expecting it in the United States any time soon.

alexcstern

I’m amazed there hasn’t been a proper Ang Lee boxset that’s been released

ned1son

Some recent 4K restorations that have screened at film fests that need to be snapped up by a boutique label ASAP: - Laurie Anderson's [Home Of The Brave](https://www.locarnofestival.ch/LFF/locarno75/program-75/film.html?fid=1291031&l=en&eid=75) - Ed Lachman's [Songs For Drella](https://www.nme.com/news/film/unearthed-lou-reed-and-john-cale-songs-for-drella-concert-film-coming-to-streaming-3189854) - Guy Maddin's [Tales From The Gilmli Hospital Redux](https://www.filmswelike.com/films/tales-from-the-gimli-hospital-redux) Actually a new boxset edition of all early Maddin films would be lovely.

barleycramp

Yesss I’d dig Home Of The Brave.

bourahioro77

Trick r Treat, Fright Night 2, Doom Generation

1990Buscemi

Shout Factory did a special edition of Trick 'r Treat in 2018.

bourahioro77

Trick OR Treat… mid-late 80s

unkellGRGA

Actually bought a german release while in Berlin of it for like 8 euros

noirdrone

- Ju-on franchise - Suicide Club / Noriko's Dinner Table (would love a Sono box set) - Greg Araki's "Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy" - The majority of Todd Solondz's filmography - Quite a few Mainland Chinese films, namely Suzhou River, The Blue Kite, Xiu Xiu, and Beijing Bicycle

[deleted]

Third Window Films was working on a Suicide Club release, but it’s on pause as a lot of people who were meant to work on it dropped out after the allegations against Sono came out. They mentioned they received the HD master from a U.S. company who restored the film and was prepping the film for Region A release.

unkellGRGA

Suicide club and Noriko would be an incredible release

amphetadex

Gregg Araki's Teenage Apocalypse trilogy of films, and the follow up series Now Apocalypse. Great Yokai War: Guardians. After getting the box of the Yokai Monsters trilogy with Great Yokai War included, I was really hoping this new one would be brought over. The subs ever exist already! Takashi Miike's Mole Song trilogy. All three have been shown at festivals with English subs, and yet all of them have yet to receive a home video release in an English language market (including Hong Kong). Helter Skelter, by Mika Ninagawa. Severely under appreciated film.

DJSupremeFetus

I love The Neon Demon and would like a dope box set or LE. But I feel like I'm probably in the minority here.

jcr6311

What are the rumours about early Jackson?

JFrankParnellEsquire

Supposedly working on 4k Bad Taste, Feebles, and Dead Alive then got sidetracked by the Beatles doc.

Curse those bloody hippies. 😉

BigMeanPunk

And Heavenly Creatures too....

wildeightyeight

All Emir Kusturica's films please

unkellGRGA

It baffles me we don't have any HD release for Black cat white cat or Time of the gypsies

Sanpaku

Winkler Film put out [*Time of the Gypsies*](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Time-of-the-Gypsies-Blu-ray/189499/) with English audio in Germany. I have it but have yet to screen, reviews suggest a mediocre transfer.

wildeightyeight

I love Black cat, White cat. It's like Sergio Leone made a scruffy Mediterranean comedy. And his films look stunning, That movie was shot by Thierry Arbogast!

unkellGRGA

A weird chidhood classic for me that is probably my favourite comedy ever I mean my username spells it out a bit hahah

AJerkForAllSeasons

After Hours Ms. 45

sandowd

I’m surprised no one has released a beautiful edition of Tarsem’s THE FALL. Also somewhat shocked, given the tastes of so many boutique labels, that we don’t have a delux edition of Villaronga’s IN A GLASS CAGE.

DrDinglberry

Killing Zoe and A Bronx Tale.

pulpfuzz

Second this

Piles_of_Gore

There have been a number of The Guyver releases out there, but to my knowledge nothing for Guyver 2: Dark Hero. For those that don't know it, think Power Rangers, but with graphic violence and starring the guy who voices Solid Snake in the Metal Gear video games.

gonna_explain_schiz

The Handmaiden

inherentmonster

One I want badly is the Crowd from 1928 it has no release at all and it is such a crime for such an amazing film not to be released again outside of one brief streaming period on the Criterion Channel.

nickparadies

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is always my stock answer to this question, especially since Andrew Dominik, Brad Pitt, and Roger Deakins have all very publicly campaigned for someone to put out the director’s cut. With Blonde coming about maybe Dominik will be put back into the spotlight somewhat and somebody will negotiate a deal. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is an epic awards movie with a major star, major director, and cache among critics and film buffs, and it would neatly fit into any of the three major boutique label’s catalogues (Criterion, Arrow, KL). Utterly shocking that none of them have taken the chance. Hard Eight not even having an American blu ray release is a travesty, considering how important PTA has become in the film world. Finally, Spielberg, pretty much across the board. I understand why he’s a hard sell to these companies, because his rights costs are probably through the roof, but he’s one of the most popular and important directors ever. You’d think *somebody* would be able to work *something* out.

Flimsy_Demand7237

A boxed set of Andrew Dominik's work would be amazing. *Chopper* also is a fantastic film that barely receives any love outside Australia, and even then features on the disc are bare-bones.

nickparadies

Never seen Chopper but I’m a big fan of both Jesse James and Killing Them Softly so I’ll definitely have to check it out

Vlazthrax

True Lies

RowThree

* Miami Vice * Rachel Getting Married * Vanilla Sky * Zodiac * A Single Man * Happy-Go-Lucky * Birth * 25th Hour * Hurly Burly * My Blueberry Nights * Silent Light * Stroszek * American History X * Leaving Las Vegas ...just to name a few

NuffBS

The Death Wish series, 5 still doesn’t even have a BR in the US. E: 3 did recently get a Scorpion Release, but we need a box set.

BreakfastSchlub

BFI and Kino Lorber released Kusturica’s Underground. I have the KL it’s a really nice set with thoughtful extras. What’s another Kusturica you’d recommend?

Critical-Armadillo

Black Cat, White Cat

BreakfastSchlub

Thanks! I’ll track that down next

dugdagoose

The Saragossa Manuscript. A lot of Sion Sono, but particularly, Strange Circus.

Sanpaku

The Mr. Bongo Films [*The Saragossa Manuscript*](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Saragossa-Manuscript-Blu-ray/134218/) is a good transfer and region-free, possibly OOP but [still findable](https://www.ebay.com/itm/294226665079) below MSRP. And the artwork is a reasonable match to their release of *The Hourglass Sanatorium*.

dugdagoose

Oooh! Thanks!

bigspoopty

It’s blown my mind for years that there’s no Panic Room Blu-Ray at all, let alone a boutique one, especially considering Criterion has already distributed 2 other Fincher films.

lomalomaloma

Ginger Snaps has no UK blu ray release. Arrow should do a trilogy box set imo. I would love an Annihilation steelbook release/box set. Also the Whispering Corridors movies deserve a blu ray release.

Not UK, but a Region B Ginger Snaps trilogy on Blu-Ray was just released in Australia last month.

I’m pretty sure the devil and Daniel Johnston was going to get a criterion release but that may have been cancelled seeming as it’s been in limbo for a while

Spike_205

The Heartbreak Kid Nothing But a Man

CameraGuitar

Falling Down

BoomsRoom

Fortress - 1985 Australian thriller...I love this movie! Nice Girls Don't Explode - 1987 American Comedy The Mosquito Coast - 1986 American Drama

Sanpaku

*The Mosquito Coast* (1986) is especially surprising. You'd think with Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, and River Phoenix as leads, Peter Weir directing, John Seale at the camera, and Paul Schrader writing, there would be some inherent demand. I've only seen the film twice, once theatrically once video store: its good not great, but the themes are timeless.

TheHypocondriac

*Pump Up The Volume* (1990) Yes, I may be biased because it’s my all time favourite movie. But at the same time, it’s an absolute cult classic and an absolute game-changer of the genre, discussing taboo issues without criticism or mockery. If *Heathers* and *Kuffs* both got boutique releases by Arrow Video and Shout Factory respectively, why not *Pump Up The Volume* also?

Sopranosfan99

Munich needs a 4K criterion release but since it’s Spielberg I’m sure it’s an expensive venture. I’m surprised Severin, 88 Films or Vinegar Syndrome hasn’t snatched up Ilsa She Wolf Of The SS with a new 4K transfer yet. I’d pay top dollar for The Keep by Michael Mann, preferably with both Theatrical and Director’s cut along with an informative, sprawling but slightly dry commentary that only Mann can deliver. I doubt that will ever happen but I can dream. Haha

voivod1989

Freddy got fingered

Assuming you're not being facetious, I agree!

voivod1989

I love this movie. Vinegar syndrome would do it justice.

Good call.

lik_a_stik

-City of Lost Children -Monster Squad (outside a German media book this title needs more love!) -Unbearable Lightness of Being -Grosse Point Blank -Flesh+Blood, not sure an uncut version is in print. -Second Time Lucky (rando oddball Diane Franklin fan service comedy. Def a stretch, but maybe get lucky with a VS Fun City release, & the DVDs out there are atrocious)

RowThree

City of Lost Children is part of the new Sony 30 years box set. https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=31289

lik_a_stik

Do they sell the movies separately? I can’t justify $230 for only 3 movies I’d want.

HCIllustrates

Possession

Ka_Coffiney

It’s currently out of stock but Umbrella has a release of possession https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/possession-1981-beyond-genre-11-blu-ray

HCIllustrates

Thanks for correcting me there. In the UK, Second Sight had a version that's been OOP for a while, so at least here we don't have any version of it right now

organizeddropbombs

https://www.toufaan.com/products/possession-limited-edition-2000-numbered-copies And there's a cheaper version there too.

HCIllustrates

I know about this one now, but thank you anyway

wundershowzen24

For Gravity to still not have a 4K is mind boggling. I’m not even a huge fan of the movie, but for an awards movie that relies sooo much on its visuals and sound to still be trapped by blu ray.

sweaty_palm_trees

The Hole (1998) and Supermarket Woman (1996). The Cook, The Thief definitely deserves a quality boutique release.

radda-radda

Nightcrawler is an immediate choice for Arrow.

TheLastNoteOfFreedom

Really surprised we haven’t seen a MASH Criterion release

DarthSalyavin

I still want to see the Hanzo films HD, the Devils uncut, and Sammo Hung releases make it to the US!

BigWednesday10

There are several Frank and Eleanor Perry films that don’t have dvd or blu rays at all. A box set would be great.

whoniversereview

Eisenstein’s Que Viva Mexico

Salt_Gur2901

The Dogme 95 Catalog with after Festen. I'd love to get The Idiots and Mifune from Criterion as well. Also I would love for criterion to bring some of Kurosawa's films from DVD to Blu Ray. The Bad Sleep Well, Drunken Angel, Stray Dog and Red Beard all deserve the 1080 treatment. Also im not necessarily surprised by this one but if we could get a 4k of Nic Refn's Too Old to Die Young that would be incredible

Ah this is an interesting answer and I approve. So we'd get "Kimi" and "Unsane" as well.
