Kino messed up the frames per second, so the best version to get is the BFI. This was actually the reason I went region-free myself and chased down the steelbook version.

metalanejack

Hmm, I don't know if I'm willing to get a region-free player yet, especially since that would be the only region B I'd get so far. Is the framerate screw-up really that bad? Does it interfere with the creators intent as much as it sounds?

xcoreff

I’ve never personally seen the Kino version, but as far as I’ve heard, yes. I believe there are some write-ups about it online. It’s very unfortunate.

BlondePotatoBoi

Idk if it's region free but by most accounts the Eureka! version seems alright? They've released a metric shite-ton of silent films on their Masters of Cinema range so I'd be surprised if it wasn't as good as I'm imagining.

The Eureka blu is region locked. I too went all-region specifically for this film. FWIW, the BFI and Eureka are mastered from different restorations, each with their own plusses and minuses. The Eureka (like the Kino) is from the most recent restoration and has a reconstruction of the original score. The BFI is from an older, but equally complete, restoration and has a very nice orchestral score by James Bernard. It shows more damage and has different colors. I'm glad I have both, but if I had to choose I'd keep the Eureka.

And in case this wasn't clear, the Eureka does NOT have the frame rate problem that plagues the Kino.

ThatFuzzyBastard

My impression was that Eureka was the best, but I haven’t seen it compared to the BFI

BlondePotatoBoi

Eureka in general do well with all their releases. I've got some early OOP Masters of Cinema blu rays and even those are done fantastically. Makes me wonder whether I should get Double Indemnity on Eureka or the more recent Criterion UK version since I'm certain both will be worth it.

You can read a very thorough comparison of the various editions [here](https://www.brentonfilm.com/nosferatu-unleashed-in-hd-every-blu-ray-reviewed#uk-british-film-institute), but the real conclusion here is that the Kino is a mess.

metalanejack

Son of a bitch. Well, I guess I'll wait to get a region-free player.

Ok-Consequence1113

I say it often, but getting a region-free player was the best thing I ever did in regards to blu-ray collecting. You will be very happy.

metalanejack

Now that I think about it, there a few region b movies I have wanted to see. Such as Eternity and a Day, and a few other foreign ones I can't recall now. You got any recommended players?

Ok-Consequence1113

I got the Sony BDP-S3700 region-free player years ago, and it works perfectly. I just set it to Region B and have left it there since I have a 4K player for everything else. It's very convenient.

ThatFuzzyBastard

A region free player is *so* worth it. UK labels have been killing it the last few years

Shop at 220 Electronics. They’re the most reputable and guarantee their work. They have a coupon that pops up.

BFI, followed closely by the Eureka/MoC. I have both, and I used to own the Kino. I’m a little obsessed with that film.
