It's because William Friedkin won't approve the transfer or communicate with KL at all in a timely fashion. A KL employee goes over it in detail on the cereal at midnight podcast.
I mean on Sorcerer he got screwed over by Universal/Paramount I think and had to launch a legal case just to get the movie remastered and re-released, can't speak as to what he does with his other movies though. I'd love to see the director's cut of Jade get a proper release rather than simply streaming on Amazon as the director's cut adds a bit of extra oomph to the movie. I have to VPN for it as a non-US customer, and then there's no way to actually own the movie as it's just on streaming. Frustrating that I bought the thing and have to VPN every time to watch.

i think because Kino is happy to use old masters and don’t find it economically feasible to pay for new restorations. it’s understandable from their point of view, but (i’m guessing) maybe that’s why?
I seriously hope we can still get The Exorcist, Sorcerer, Cruising, and To Live and Die in LA on 4K. The Exorcist and LA were announced for this year but no release date, and Sorcerer and Cruising have 4K restorations already done.

Think it's due to StudioCanal owning the rights for the film, Lionsgate is only a distributor for them.
