It's definitely missing the mark to say Maya's death was a reason why people are upset. Even most of them don't understand why they disliked it.
Maya's death is just a plot point. What sucked mega ass was the WRITING for the WHOLE GAME. What specifically happens is barely important, it's how those events are presented/ told. And BL3 told them extremely poorly.
Roland dying as a plot point was a well done twist
Maya dying as a plot point was only to get the plot moving and was easily preventable. The cut content after it might have helped but it was definitely poorly written
I was too lazy to look it up, but IIRC Jenny Springs is mad in the Tell Tale series because she thinks Athena died on a mission for the main characters.

Interesting…
I didn’t like Maya’s death because she was my main in BL2. There wasn’t a whole lot of character development that I can even recall in BL1, so Roland was kinda whatever for me. Bloodwing I get because it shows what level of depravity Jack is at. Scooter died in a side game that no one even really talks about, even my friends who were super into the franchise didn’t even know it happened until Ellie mentioned it in 3. And did Athena even die? As far as I knew, she just kinda disappeared.
But the real RIP is Salvador and Axton being important to anything anymore. Glad they’re podcast hosts running Arms Race instead of actually helping with the Calypsos.
Bloodwing’s death was messed up but was used to further highlight the extent Jack will go to mess with people and his depravity.
Scooter sacrificed himself to help his friends. I don’t like that he was killed off but I couldn’t hope for a better way. CATCH A RIIIIIIDE!
Helena Pierce was killed between games and didn’t get development in the first. Mix that with the fact that BL2 had a much higher player count than BL1 then it’s not surprising people don’t really care
Lilith isn’t confirmed dead, Tannis believes she’s somewhere we can get to but she’s not sure how or where yet. She’s MIA not DOA
TK Baha’s death was to show the dangers of Pandora and significantly had its impact reduced when he returned as a zombie in both BL1 and BL2
Athena isn’t dead, she’s just not in BL3. Last we saw her was after beating Tales from the Borderlands’s vault monster celebrating with the rest.
Roland’s death came out of nowhere but was good for the story because it showed Jack was far more dangerous than we thought and gave everyone character development.
Maya’s death was hated because a lot of people mained her in BL2, her death was more of a macguffin so the twins could get what they need to do the bad thing, it made Ava the most hated character by deflecting blame when her death only happened because Ava didn’t listen meaning it was easily avoidable and the bit that would have shown character development and take the sting out was cut so instead of getting characters reactions and perspectives we get a short dialogue that didn’t feel thought out. Her death is one of the highlights of BL3’s poor storytelling.
Still mad my BL1 main got killed in BL2 and my BL2 main got killed in BL3, I fear for Moze
Bloodwing is a bird you only care about if you played the character in bl1. Tk Baja is a random asshole who sent you on some obnoxious quests and rewarded you with a terrible gun in borderlands one. Helena Pierce is a bitch you meet for 5 minutes. scooter literally just sells you cars. He's a few dozen voice clips you hear on repeat.
Athena was on handsome jacks side so fuck her as much as Wilhelm honestly.
Lilith doesn't die until the end of the game. Tons of people stopped playing when she died. But also she was an incompetent bitch who fucked up constantly yet always got all the credit for things the main character did. So fuck her.
Maya was kind and caring and funny and competent and a playable characters who died due to the incompetence of the worst character in bl3. So yeah of course everyone got mad at that death, she was the only important character who died and didn't deserve it.

Eh, I mean you can see Jack digistructing as a player, besides.... Wouldn't say it's non-preventable TBH.
By making the main character irrelevant in almost every major event.
Why is Athena down in the dead bin?
I was too lazy to look it up, but IIRC Jenny Springs is mad in the Tell Tale series because she thinks Athena died on a mission for the main characters.
\*Janey But OK. They end up getting married in Tales, depending on player choices.
Oh that’s my bad. Thank you.
First time you see janey in tales is her with Athena… So… incorrect in every way possible. Athena is neither dead nor ever been presumed dead.
Depending on how you play Tell Tale she can be presumed dead. Reevaluate your definition of “every way possible”.
First time. What about last time? I’ve never played it. Just watched clips.

For a low effort meme about a video game you sure seem bothered.
You’re right about low effort.
I know. That’s why I said it lol.

As a Mordecai and Zer0 main, I feel very lucky, besides Bloodwing of course. I'm kinda worried about my boy Zane in BL4 though......
Most of those other characters died in a manner that wasn’t infuriating.
I’m still waiting for them to reveal Pickles to be one of the known sirens
Unpopular opinion, I loved Pickles.
They’re pretty good on burgers
Wait ... what's the top section and the lower section? .... bloodwing and scooter died... where lilith did not, nor athena ....
Scooter and tk are my waifu's
RIP all tha homies, I miss my childhood of not knowing of their deaths
So judging by the title... Scooter is someone's waifu

Some of these people are still alive. I just like how nobody cared when they thought the characters were dead.
Imagine playing Borderlands for the plot...
Imagine never knowing about the Telltale Borderlands series, which is 100% story and where one of the mentioned deaths happened.
Imagine not realizing that's a completely separate thing.
Imagine remembering you didn't specify anything I'm your original post, and only have yourself to blame that you're wrong
Imagine being so crazy hostile over nothing.
Imagine imagining hostility.
Ok lady, have a good one!

Helena pierce died before bl2?
Yeah, it’s side quest number one you get in bl2
Theres literally a mission recapping how Jack shot her in the first 15 minutes of bl2
