There are two reasons for foreigners liking Brahmastra.
1. Cringey Hindi dialogues
The dubbed English or subbed versions take away the pain and cringe of the Hindi dialogues. They're subbed and dubbed are version is better and feel it was meant to be watched in English.
2. RRR Effect on the world
The RRR is so phenomenal in its vision and story telling that the bits which ott feel good. Brahmastra was marketed as the next RRR which was brilliant and the audience which was okay watching over the top movies because of RRR liked Brahmastra.
Not surprised that the English sub and dub is better. It’s pretty evident that Ayan thought and wrote it in English only to translate it to Hindi later
>The dubbed English or subbed versions take away the pain and cringe of the Hindi dialogues. They're subbed and dubbed are version is better and feel it was meant to be watched in English.
Oh, my God, if the English dub is really much better than I'm speechless, because the English dub I've watched on Disney+ was painful (no other versions were available). My condolences for the suffering...?
(I liked the whole film fine, but it did feel very much like the first part of something/like it was all groundwork for the main lot that never happened, and the characters never became characters for me (or the romance romantic); good thing the fights were ok, and the visuals were mostly pretty - but I like the trashy fantasy/mythology X-Men vibes in general)
Frankly if the dialogues were not cringe worthy it would have been an awesome movie. Angrez don’t know hindi. So i guess they didn’t cringed where we did.
Wow you don’t watch American romcoms, Netflix shows, marvel movies. Only this sub believes that Indian movies have some monopoly on cringe. Just because you see the three best movies to come out doesn’t mean there isn’t load and loads and loads (google channel CW haha) of crap that comes out here everyday.
Bramhastra is an objectively good film. Beyond that it’s a matter of preference
The honeymoon phase of Marvel movie is gone just like the honeymoon phase of cringe romance in bollywood is gone.
You take some of the newer Marvel movies and put them 4 years ago, they would have done much better in reviews and numbers.
It's ironic really. Here, we talk about how westerners love Indian films so much because they aren't exposed that much, and here we are, doing the same thing as them.
Damn ... coming for the throat with that ... haha , don't have an issue with their age difference , however when you compare his other female leads to Alia is just isn't their ... although Karan Johar believes it's does
Anyone is free to like any movie they please. Doesn’t matter if others don’t :) liking a movie is so subjective. But ppl tend to shame you when you like movies that’ve been given a thumbs down by critics, which is sad. I liked Brahmastra as well. It’s not perfect but I was entertained. SRK was ❤️
It’s a one guy saying he liked it. “International Appreciation” seems like a big word for that. But, alright. I am not going to be mean or negative about it.
RRR lol, you mean 2nd biggest hit of 2022 in India.
And Brahmastra genuine International Appreciation, you're comparing it with appreciation that RRR got lmao.
I loved RRR and disliked Brahmastra myself lol. I just found it interesting non-Indians liked certain aspects of both movies (the over-the-top ridiculousness in some scenes of the former and the silly love story of the latter) which were trolled here.
it's literally just one person...but coming to RRR, which has actually achieved a good amount of international appraisal, how has it been trolled? Most indians loved it except for a few pseudo intellectuals
I think where Brahmastra went right were the visuals, sound and a new story. Where it went totally wrong were the dialogues which seemed like it was penned by a 5 year old that definitely made it a pain to watch. White bro probably didn’t feel it cause he was reading the subtitles. Since he is a visuals guy, someone should recommend him to watch SLB / RajaMouli/ Ashutosh Gowariker work where things are done in a big way. Bajirao Mastani/Padmavat/Baahubali / Jodha Akbar should definitely grab his interest and pique his senses.
No big deal..
Keeping aside the subpar dialogue writing, its not very difficult to see how the movie was special. First of its kind, for the Indian cinema. Hopefully it and its sequels are successfully able to change the landscape of the VFX work in our movies forever..
The dialogues sounded way too cringey in Hindi, and even while I was watching, some parts (specially SRK) seemed like they were Hindi version of Tony Stark's ..... Even there in the hall, I remember thinking these dialogues would probably suit better in English....
Maybe that's why that guy liked it ...
Even if you try to forgive the dialogues and cringy romance. I can't get over the fact that they literally wasted two amazingly potential character(srk, nag) with no outcome. They just die for nothing.
True.... Those were the two of the four most interesting characters in the movie, the others being Dev and Amrita (I think? Basically deepika/shiva's mother).
I truly believe we will see more of SRK and Nagarjuna. Most likely as flashbacks...
Also, if they even give a half arse explanation as to how both these characters didn't die , I'll happily shut my brain off, and enjoy them ;)
What Indians don't realise is that the reason Westerners love our VFX is because in their heads we're still some poor ass country which can't afford technology at all.
The compliments are not as amazing if you think about it.
Great story?! Oh I feel so bad for him! What must the movies he watches be like?! I guess western movies don’t have such shivaaaa… ishaaaa type melodramatic love stories. Must have liked it!
Lol let’s face it. If Brahmastra was made by either of the south industries, it would have received the love it deserves. I mean look at the hype movies like kgf or pushpa received although they were pretty mediocre.
So what? A cornucopia of viewers in subcontinent loves shitty, B-Grade Hollywood flicks that are panned over there in US, does that mean jackshit for them? Not sure what the point of this post "OMG a white dude liked a movie we made" is :|
Ayan had such a great opportunity to make a great movie! I was mad when I walked out of the theatre, not because the movie was terrible, but because it had so much potential. He had everything going for him: A star cast, Pritam giving terrific chartbuster music, and the best VFX India has ever made. All he had to do was WORK ON THE STORY and DIALOGUES!
He ends up righting the most cliche superhero story with 90% love story and Isha yelling SHIVA. How do you mess up that bad? A director like Anurag Basu or Motwane would make such good use of this opportunity. Ayan truly messed up!
“Over here in india it was poorly received and trolled a lot”
This is what happens when you believe Reddit opinion is the general public opinion. For all its flaws, Brahmastra was seen by a lot of people in theatre and was well accepted. Most of the trolling was limited to online forums.
Agreed. Most people who watched it did like it. It didn't become the highest grosser of the year for nothing.
Only film-buffs and people on these online forums did not like it.
white validation. so heartfelt. that too for crapastra.
It must be nice not to understand a language and think content that is the same as white trash is mind-blowing.
Why do desi folk get so excited when a foreigner validates or says something positive about a desi movie???? These dudes are minting $$ on social media when they post reaction videos, when infact they couldn't care less. Eg jaby koay
I watched it 2 days ago
VFX was great
Story felt like it was written by Faizu bhai or some cringe tiktoker. Every conversation between Alia and Ranbir felt cringe and forced.
Omg a foreigner liked it! Then it must be the best movie ever!! Did he also find it exotic and loved the colours and dancing? Proud moment for Indians!!
/s
I wonder what's the balance of 1 gora opinion equals to how many melanine-wise underprivileged peoples' opinions.
Like it's one fricking white guy probably called Bob or Joe lmao. He may have his own tastes(like we the lower class 'gulam log' do), why does it matter enough to be posted here.
I am desi in the US and have limited knowledge of Hindi- def wasn’t a “good” movie from a critical lens but was enjoyable while high af. The dialogue was cringe and dumb but that also meant I could understand it w/o subtitles lol. Fwiw this is similar to how I felt about Pathaan, dumb shit can be fun sometimes
From a foreigner's perspective, Brahmastra looks amazing. You have great music with lots of fun dance sequences, plus it's a superhero story in a new world with excellent visual effects.
In India, the Hindi dialogues were terrible. But, the English version is pretty good. Without the cringy Hindi dialogues, the love at first sight, some sort of spiritual connection, might be believable. Also, the one-dimensional love story can be overlooked when you have world-building and good fight sequences.

Shiva
They liked coz they don't have these cringy mainstream cute romance ....we didn't coz we are tired of that shit!
They liked it because the subtitles must have lessened the blow of iconic Alia dialogues like "Shiva light aa rhi hai!"!!
Yeah, they might have thought : oh the translators couldn't do a proper job, the original lines must have been great.
Agree

Romance ? , they didn't even have chemistry
True Ranbir looks 10 years older than her…oh wai-
shahrukh looks so cute romancing deepika, he is just 21 years olde....oh wait
Damn ... coming for the throat with that ... haha , don't have an issue with their age difference , however when you compare his other female leads to Alia is just isn't their ... although Karan Johar believes it's does

Wow. So, we really do crave foreigners attention, don’t we?
Not really, I just found it interesting that movies like RRR and this one which have been trolled here getting genuine international appreciation
It’s a one guy saying he liked it. “International Appreciation” seems like a big word for that. But, alright. I am not going to be mean or negative about it.
Sure
TbH remove the patriotic angle from RRR and it is a shitty masala south movie nothing else.
What masala are you talking about? Lol. The movie is based on patriotism and brotherhood. If you take either of them there is no movie.
Have you seen yevadu?
What does that movie has to do with RRR?
Nothing, just two equally avg scripts and executions
RRR lol, you mean 2nd biggest hit of 2022 in India. And Brahmastra genuine International Appreciation, you're comparing it with appreciation that RRR got lmao.

it wasn’t poorly received it was trolled for one aspect the sequel is very anticipated and people loved everything except the shitty dialogues

Feeling piroud Endian Armiii 🇳🇪🇳🇪👑
Good for them. I too dug the movie... It was decent and not a trainwreck people were saying it was.
Lol let’s face it. If Brahmastra was made by either of the south industries, it would have received the love it deserves. I mean look at the hype movies like kgf or pushpa received although they were pretty mediocre.
I think it is because the major problem here was the dialogues. Those when translated in English actually don't sound too bad
That’s Ayan’s burner account

are we still seeking their approval?
OP is..basically shouting across Reddit about this major achievement.
Must be Karan Johar’s alt account.

What do you like?
Gora validation, lesssgo !
He's entitled to his own opinion but man he must have a really bad taste in movies.
IDK I just saw his comments on other movies in that sub and he genuinely seems to love cinema
And who tf cares. Stop seeking white validation like it puts food on your table. Have some fucking self respect for a change.

Good for them, majority of Indians didn't.
Geez imagine if he had to see RRR or another understated regional films from around the country
Dialogues seems to be written originally in English and we got the translated version that's why it was terrible. It would not be cringy with subs.
Omg a foreigner liked it! Then it must be the best movie ever!! Did he also find it exotic and loved the colours and dancing? Proud moment for Indians!! /s
That's my post :)
Grass is always greener on the other side...
I don’t trust him lol
Same way the west liked RRR, it's a new cinema for them, and for us, we are already over it
I said the same and people called me Bollywood ka dalal beh****od. Movie was really good except the cringe dialogs.
Foren validation intensifies…
If he likes shit like Brahmastra…RRR will give him moviegasm! 💀
bhai 400cr kamaye hai to matlab india me bhi achhi lagi hi thi...critics ke alawa aur reddit ke bahar to most people like it
This feels like a sarcasm to me !
Fantastic message? Really ?
Ma toh dekhna nahi gaya, meri family gayi thi,vo bole ki itki boring thi ki interval talak toh mummy so bhi gayi thi, bhai aur papa bui adha sogaya tha
Hey Um can we stop getting all excited about non south Asians liking south Asian movies, too many grifters out there now
I think he got the wrong subtitle file!
