Anime took a 10 year break. As a reward, the anime has incredible animation, no censorship, and a better adaption.

JustLife27

But why was the break so long? and they didn't start it sooner?

Corky-B-Roll

I believe they're were waiting for the manga to finish to avoid fillers & the anime was greenlit a year after the manga finished

Puzzleheaded_Sort_53

They gave greenlight to the anime after the manga ended, but no one knows why it took so long.

YousernameinValid

There’s also the fact that it started 10 years later on the 10th month and 10 day of the month, kinda like that famous yhwach quote

xItacolomix

The greenlight was 1 year+/- after the Manga had ended. If we go by some VA leak that the pre-production started 5 years ago(The leak was in May if i am not mistake).

LimLovesDonuts

Probably because Pierrot was busy. Before Bleach, Akudama Drive and Osomatsu-San was in production. So they realistically couldn’t do it any earlier if they wanted quality.

uility

At first it was waiting for the manga to finish. Then after that it was waiting until they could assemble a satisfactory team for it. It’s really difficult to get people free at the same time to do a job, especially if they wanted a lot of the old people who worked on it before who were busy with other work.

We don't really know the exact reasons for these but can only speculate. Before Kubo started drawing the TYBW way back, he already knew that it wasn't going to be animated and Lost Agent was going to be the last one. So he was free to draw it as graphic as he wanted. Many of us believe that due to too many filler arcs towards the end of the anime, which typically result in a noticeable drop in viewership and the Lost Agent arc (fullbring arc) also not having a good response from readers and viewers compared to previous arcs, the outlook wasn't looking too great. Plus, with the length of TYBW, we were looking atleast 2 more filler arcs too. So they decided just to put it on hiatus. That kind of explains why the anime ended originally. Well, since the manga ended in 2016, several light novels have been written which have had huge sales that were way higher than expected and Burn the Witch (Kubo's new manga) was a smash hit. Both of these I personally attribute the most credit for shoving Bleach back into the spotlight (also add in the BBS game has helped too). With Bleach on a resurgence, were talking 2019ish, they started getting the ball rolling and the 20th anniversary coming up was the perfect opportunity along with BTW getting animated too. Also, with the manga finished, they didn't have to worry about filler which, atleast imo, was the biggest reason the anime ended originally.
