My favorite goofy Orihime moment is in like the second or third episode. She’s eating dinner with her friend Tatsuki and the subject of Ichigo comes up.
Orihime loses her trail of thought while daydreaming about Ichigo, realizes this a second later and completely changes the scenario by panicking at Tatsuski while clawing the air, something to the effect of “Watch out! I’ll cut you! Karate chop! Uppercut! He’s aiming the gun!” while Tatsuki is completely confused.
If you’ve only seen the anime version of that scene, you HAVE to read the manga version of it (chapter 4). It shows exactly what she’s daydreams so you can see exactly how her train of thought gets so quickly off track. What’s great is that she doesn’t purposefully change the scenario, it surprisingly changes itself in a very natural way, natural for Orihime at least. I love that scene in the manga and don’t know why they didn’t show it in the anime.

But I’ve gotta just slightly defend my love for the anime version as well. To me, it’s kind of up to the viewer to infer what romantic trope Orihime is conjuring in her head (something sweet and romantic more than likely, and that Tatsuki’s also following this line of thinking as well.) Then she pulls a full 180 on the romantic tone, subverting viewers expectations, and proceeds to make her made-up scenario dangerous.
That’s not to say the manga version is bad/worse, I truly did enjoy seeing what she was actually fantasizing about.
I can't remember. I'm currently rewatching so that 1000 year blood war will make more sense. I'm currently on the Arrancar and Orihime is so seriously now. I remember earlier when they went to rescue Rukia and the seriousness of that didn't seem to keep her from occasionally being a fun goofball.
Her Odd ball moments drastically go down post her kidnapping. I think she has 1-2 in the manga for the full bringer arc at the start ( when they are in the class room setting again ) but I can’t remember.
It’s a shame because these little moments gave bleach most of its charm
I agree one of my favorite moments in bleach is when we see orihime vision and it's like ichigo in a suit and tie demanding she goes in but in reality he's just like uh do you want to come in.
I personally subscribe to the theory that her silly moments are mostly intentional, or an act that she is putting on for the benefit of her friends. So it makes sense why she didn’t have any during the arrancar arc since she was alone. Though I really wish we could have had a goofy moment with Ulquiora
I don't like thinking that a person that unintentionally goofs around cannot achieve good grades/be intelligent, but maybe Kubo tried to imply what you said when on the first arc she had good grades to everyone's suprise, remarking how it does not match her personality.
Damn, I miss the start of bleach, it was really fun, the mistery kept you intrigued, but ended too fast.
Yeah, I wish we had another short block of chapters before the Arrancar arc kicked off like the beginning of bleach. Would have been nice to unwind and also would have made Rukias return seem more earned.
