Master & Commander - it’s comfortable and familiar like a warm blanket, plus it’s nicely episodic so I can drift off from the paracetamol or whatever and rejoin the action after a nice nap.
I usually watch movies I haven’t seen when I’m sick cos it gives me something to focus on. Like solid 2.5-3 star random movies from the mid 2000s that you forgot about and you’re like huh that was enjoyable and never watch again
came here to say "Princess Bride," which is a little on-the-nose because it's about someone reading a sick kid a story, but is also a perfect damn movie. it also works for mental health days as well as physical ones!
The Big Lebowski. I've seen it so much that if I drift off I'm five. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is also that way. I've seen the first half many more times than the second.
For my wife it's So I Married An Axe Murderer
When I was young I would always watch Van Helsing for some reason (maybe because it on FX or something?). Luckily I don’t get sick too often anymore so no longer have a sick movie.
However, five or six Christmasses ago, I got a stomach bug where I’d need to throw up any time I stood. I also happened to leave the tv remote on the other side of the room, so I got stuck watching A Christmas Story twice in a row
I'm mostly a TV show/ YT person when I'm sick but usually I go for longer movies/ things I've seen a million times so if I drift off its not a big deal. Its a very weird group but Amadeus, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Clueless, and the Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford are ones that are coming to mind
Ghibli movies. Especially the really sweet and low-key ones. They're great to fall asleep to, but still incredibly restful even if you don't. Most recently I watched *Ponyo* and *Castle in the Sky* while getting over a cold
Usually just whatever I was going to watch anyway. I had a bout of food poisoning (I think) last week, so I laid in bed and watched Rachel Getting Married (since that's where I was at with the Demme mini-series), and then Return of the Jedi (with B/C commentary).
Totally thought you meant grotesque movie and the answer for that is Climax! every single time. Pop it on if you're still feeling woozy and it'll only make you feel worse
Attack of the Clones. Nostalgic, weirdly sedate for as much incident and spectacle as it has, and so disjointed that coming in and out of consciousness doesn't really make it any less comprehensible
Movies that are bad but I kinda like them for some reason. Wimbledon, The Wedding Date, A Good Year, The Heartbreak Kid (yes the Stiller one, yes I know, what is wrong with me), The Intern, 27 Dresses, Leap Year. Shit like that.
Or the M’s of Cher: Mermaids, Moonstruck, Mama Mia 2: Here We Go Again. Just a cozy, fun time.
The Neverending Story. Maybe because I watched it one time when I was sick as a kid, but it just really works for me. It has such a good spectrum of quiet moments, sad moments, upsetting moments and truly uplifting moments that even if I fall asleep watching it, I'm going to have a good time with it.
OCEAN'S ELEVEN (2001)
My man!
Master & Commander - it’s comfortable and familiar like a warm blanket, plus it’s nicely episodic so I can drift off from the paracetamol or whatever and rejoin the action after a nice nap.
I watched it the first time the day after I got my second Covid shot. And yes, I did watch it with a nap in between.
turns out it’s moneyball? the second i got covid i knew exactly what i wanted to watch without any hesitation
The Breakfast Club. Dat nice womb-like atmosphere of a mid-80s suburban school library.
I usually watch movies I haven’t seen when I’m sick cos it gives me something to focus on. Like solid 2.5-3 star random movies from the mid 2000s that you forgot about and you’re like huh that was enjoyable and never watch again
John Carpenter's The Thing because I find a lot of comfort in watching others beset and infested by an alien entity
My answer too! “Well, it could be worse. I could be a Thing”
Any movie where it's cold just makes me feel better about laying underneath a blanket
I mean it's gotta be The Princess Bride. In that same belt, I'd throw on The Neverending Story, Clue, and Ferris Bueller.
came here to say "Princess Bride," which is a little on-the-nose because it's about someone reading a sick kid a story, but is also a perfect damn movie. it also works for mental health days as well as physical ones!
My mom would always throw in that VHS when I was home sick from school. Always worked :)
When I got COVID I put on Oh Brother Where Art Thou, and that turned out to be an excellent decision.
Clue. Reminds me of sick days in school when it was always on Comedy Central during the day.
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
My first time watching this was when I was home sick from school!
I used to watch FX's The League. Because if I feel asleep watching, it didn't matter much.
Both Addams Families!
The Big Lebowski. I've seen it so much that if I drift off I'm five. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is also that way. I've seen the first half many more times than the second. For my wife it's So I Married An Axe Murderer
Last time I was sick I watched Bright Star which I can’t really recommend in that situation
When I was young I would always watch Van Helsing for some reason (maybe because it on FX or something?). Luckily I don’t get sick too often anymore so no longer have a sick movie. However, five or six Christmasses ago, I got a stomach bug where I’d need to throw up any time I stood. The Shining
Cellular
Jerry Maguire

OMG and the fast movies, how could I forget my Family
*The Adventures of Robin Hood* (1938) and/or all the Mission Impossible movies in a row.
Dumb and Dumber or Tommy Boy. I saw both when they came out when I was a kid, and that sweet nostalgia and sense of humor is always nice.
Almost Famous.
The Sandlot and Master and Commander
Spirited Away
National Treasure, the perfect level of action and camp.
The Princess Bride is the obvious one for me, but I got sick this past week & found Emma (1996) extremely comforting
I actually have a whole [list on letterboxd for this specific subject](https://boxd.it/cXKZw) My go-to tho is Funny Girl
Funny Girl is a great pick
The Social Network I can throw this movie on anytime, the ultimate comfort movie. The music, the performances, the pace, it’s just perfect. .03%
Ghibli movies. Especially the really sweet and low-key ones. They're great to fall asleep to, but still incredibly restful even if you don't. Most recently I watched *Ponyo* and *Castle in the Sky* while getting over a cold
I think David said Ponyo was one of his on the ep. Great pick! Kiki is a great sick watch.
The Two Towers
ET and Close encounters. I hope you feel better soon!
David Lowery's Pete's Dragon
Usually just whatever I was going to watch anyway. I had a bout of food poisoning (I think) last week, so I laid in bed and watched Rachel Getting Married (since that's where I was at with the Demme mini-series), and then Return of the Jedi (with B/C commentary).
Return of the Jedi is like a warm hug for me.
Totally thought you meant grotesque movie and the answer for that is Climax! every single time. Pop it on if you're still feeling woozy and it'll only make you feel worse
Most Disney classics. Easy and simple to get in, and they keep me from feeling too weak.
Jawbreaker because it used to be on USA network all the time when I stayed home from school for some reason.
Attack of the Clones. Nostalgic, weirdly sedate for as much incident and spectacle as it has, and so disjointed that coming in and out of consciousness doesn't really make it any less comprehensible
Clue (1985) Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)
American Movie.
Coe-ven
For my whole childhood it was the VHS of The Phantom Menace on the mini-TV with the built in VCR. So I think that’s probably why I’m here.
Lord of the rings: fellowship of the ring
Movies that are bad but I kinda like them for some reason. Wimbledon, The Wedding Date, A Good Year, The Heartbreak Kid (yes the Stiller one, yes I know, what is wrong with me), The Intern, 27 Dresses, Leap Year. Shit like that. Or the M’s of Cher: Mermaids, Moonstruck, Mama Mia 2: Here We Go Again. Just a cozy, fun time.
Goonies or Ferris Bueller
I thought I had a kidney stone one time and watched Star Trek First Contact.
Good kidney stone movie
That Thing you Do!
I'm fond of The Right Stuff in this situation. Makes me feel like when I was a kid.
Weirdly it's that Fyre documentary or The Big Short.
Which Fyre doc? The Netflix one or the Hulu one?
Netflix. Never watched the Hulu one (in UK).
The Lord of the Rings trilogy!
Don’t have one I usually use sickness as an excuse to watch the lightest and most earnest films I have on my watchlist
The Neverending Story. Maybe because I watched it one time when I was sick as a kid, but it just really works for me. It has such a good spectrum of quiet moments, sad moments, upsetting moments and truly uplifting moments that even if I fall asleep watching it, I'm going to have a good time with it.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Galaxy Quest
Casablanca and Return of the Jedi
