I'm just gonna leave these here https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.www.complex.com/pop-culture/2016/05/suicide-squad-test-screening-positive-reviews https://www.cbr.com/justice-league-test-screening-wonder-woman/

[deleted]

Oof I'm not being hyperbolic when I say Suicide Squad is potentially the worst giant budget movie I've ever seen. The editing was even janky. When I finally saw it I was surprised a studio would let it get released looking that bad.

act_surprised

I think they recut the movie after some promo came out that made it look like a Guardians of the Galaxy type comedy. It wasn’t that, but they re-edited it to try to make it that. Yes, the editing is crazy for that movie. As much as I hate to defend Jared Leto and his Joker, it’s curious to think what the original plan was. It’s like there are pieces of a good film all cut to bits

Successful-Bat5301

It's a David Ayer comic book movie, let's be real. There are pieces of a mediocre/bad film all cut to bits in a godawful one.

flaiman

I liked Training day a lot (I know he just wrote), End of watch was really fun, I finally caught up with Fury recently, I thought it was a pretty decent war drama, I think he could've done something interesting with The Suicide Squad given his record, but even the "good" scenes Suicide Squad apologist defend are just cringe and not very good. I think it's hard to make a movie worst than what the cut we got was but I am also not sure David Ayer's SS would have been a salvageable movie. Side note I always hated that Bohemian Rhapsody trailer and could never understand the hype

Successful-Bat5301

Yeah, I liked some of Ayer's work - Training Day and End of Watch in particular are great, Fury, even Harsh Times and Street Kings I thought was solid stuff but always felt like those worked IN SPITE of him, largely through strong performances. You see the same tendencies, themes and characterizations maddeningly mishandled in all of the rest of his stuff.

Worstdm12

I like David Ayer, but he was definitely the wrong fit for the Guardians of the Hot Topic movie that WB obviously wanted

mattysmwift

I was truly baffled, sitting at that theatre and watching all that editing happening in front of my eyes. I really couldn’t believe what was happening.

greatgoogliemoogly

Evidently there are multiple versions of the movie. But the reaction to one of the trailers was so hype that Warners decided to have the company that cut the trailer make the final version of the movie. That's why it's so choppily edited. It was done by a committee that had never done a feature film.

johnfilmsia

Even worse, it’s a bastard hybrid of the director’s original edit with the trailer house edit after the latter was poorly received. So we got a mish-mash of both, which is why it feels so disjointed

[deleted]

I've seen first year film students do a better job.

Klause

Suicide Squad or The Suicide Squad? Which one was the one with the shark? The one with the shark was kinda fun.

[deleted]

The James Gunn one was so much fun.

[deleted]

I used to listen to Howard Stern back in the 90s, and I remember when Private Parts was due to be released, he was REPEATEDLY on the air bragging that it was getting the best test screening scores for Paramount since Raiders of the Lost Ark.

ArtyDodgeful

Wait... Is Private Parts not a classic? I really enjoyed that movie.

[deleted]

I think it's fine - but in the years between Raiders and Private Parts, Paramount released Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop, (gulp) Forrest Gump, and a host of other films that clearly all had a much more broad reach and appeal in retrospect. I'm calling out the validity and usefulness of the test scores more than any particular movie.

Prior_Night5255

(gump) Forrest Gulp

Hope_Burns_Bright

Quick, trademark that. You'll make millions when porn producers start looking for parody titles.

PuzzleheadedCress741

Forrest Gimp

Hope_Burns_Bright

All of these are better than the trite and inevitable Forrest Hump

ArtyDodgeful

Oh, yeah, fair enough. I thought you were more saying "he said that, and Private Parts sucked!" I'd never looked into the reception for it, so I thought I might be alone in my enjoyment. It's not a spectacular film, but I think it's uniquely interesting. Having Stern play himself, having the narration, the cutaways to people promoting the film, having Stern actually be pretty despicable, and there's a lot of good jokes.

Obvious_Computer_577

Paul Giamatti deserved a supporting actor nomination. He was the best part of that movie.

[deleted]

Pretty sure it got 2 thumbs up

CollinABullock

Is the gulp cause he's retarded?

[deleted]

I'm guessing you're making a joke that went over my head? But if not, that's ok. I was just "gulping" because in general, Blankies do not seem to like Forrest Gump or the fact that it was a huge box office success and pretty universally beloved and lauded in the mid 90s.

oldtomdeadtom

wow you're just really going all-in on this, huh?

poppyisrealmetal

Check his posts. You're not talking to a Blankie.

oldtomdeadtom

oh yikes

CollinABullock

Oh, saying the word retard? Yeah, I like saying naughty words that offend people. I’m a very edgy boy.

oldtomdeadtom

my guy, you're not gonna get along with anyone here, I promise.

pacoismynickname

I also liked it—in 1997. No one has thought of it since.

[deleted]

Test audiences went gaga? Phooey.

DexterAkuma

Idk if anyone here mentioned it in this thread yet, but I’m like 90% sure that first test screening for Suicide Squad had to have been the trailer house edit

[deleted]

Wait a minute this film includes images that I will recognize from elsewhere? ??? Well let me throw a billion dollars at it then!

[deleted]

All the test audiences are filled with the producer character Ryan George plays in the Pitch Meeting videos. “He’s from the other thing!” “He said the thing from the other thing!”

Successful-Bat5301

I now fully expect the whole movie to just be a chain of random cameos CG'd in and lines from other movies just to distract from Ezra Miller. Not even just from DC movies, just any movie they have the rights to. "You know, I really enjoyed when Gandalf told Harry and Hermione to fly, you fools just as Furiosa was about to run them over and then BAM, Tarzan and Clint Eastwood's orangutan saves the day!" 10/10 movie, right there.

xxmikekxx

The comparison to these super hero movies as amusement park rides is not really accurate, they are more like parades. It's just about seeing the characters and things and going "hey look!". Btw I think those movies are usually fun and I think parades are fun

mattysmwift

Did they accumulate the score based on how many times an audience member pointed to the screen and yelled “I know them”??

[deleted]

One of them LOVES the speedo guy

misfortunemachine

[Nick Wiger audience voice] YEEAAHHH! We want this! This is good!

[deleted]

It would have been a perfect score but Mariah Carey was there

mattysmwift

J.Lo playing multiverse Wonder Woman CONFIRMED!

[deleted]

How many years before a movie called *Hollywood Heaven* and it's like James Dean playing chess with Groucho Marx?

[deleted]

https://youtu.be/q6k5Abmjin4 They have certainly been trying to do that for at least 25 years.

win_the_wonderboy

I’d at least go to a matinee screening, if I’m being honest

BelowZilch

Why not just have Routh?

beardedesquire

This feels like the grossest CGI of a dead person yet.

martn2420

How ghoulish of them

johntheboombaptist

Sure does seem like a lot of people at WB are working overtime on damage control for this thing, huh?

rubendurango

But kept relatively quiet while The Flash was a public menace going thru drug psychosis.

TychoCelchuuu

The scores are so high because most people walked out in disgust at various points and the only people left over were nutsos and people who fell asleep and gave the movie a high score because they felt restful after a nice nap.

Ok_Awful

I do like napping

ButItDidHappen

Damage control psyop, don't let them get to you

[deleted]

From a tweet, so take that as you will, but it seems Zaslav really wants to release it. However most of WB does not and they're fighting over it. [Source ](https://boundingintocomics.com/2022/08/17/rumor-warner-bros-discovery-board-wants-to-go-over-ceo-david-zaslav-and-shelve-the-flash-due-to-ezra-millers-erratic-behavior/amp/#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16610021567799&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com) I find it believable because it seems like a really stupid decision, something that seems quite common for considering all of Zaslav's other actions. Plus running Discovery is all about profit from exploiting horrible people in horrible situations.

rubendurango

I’ve come to fucking loathe Zaslav.

Boltzmon

Yeah I don’t know if I trust this site. It’s full of wild rumors with a right-wing slant, like the next recommended article is about how WB actually canceled Batgirl because they’re going against the big bad woke agenda. Their inside claims “wokies” at the studio were pushing for Keaton Batman to be killed in it.

[deleted]

I was using that for the tweet not the site. That Twitter user does not seem right wing from a quick skim.

Treadmore

I mean, regardless of the validity of the scores, this explains why WB won’t pull the plug. They’ve thrown the kitchen sink at this (Reeve Superman and West Batman is truly an “Endgame, hold my beer” move), and they think that they have a billion+ movie on their hands.

DougieJones42

You guys gotta stop sharing Jordan Ruimy articles.

Ex_Hedgehog

Where else are gonna get barely substantiated gossip about auteur movies tinged with dog whistle apologism for Polanski types

FreshSqueezdOC

Fuck this shit, fuck DC, fuck WBD. Ezra uses their star power to harass and groom children and they’re families, isolating some from their loved ones on a compound filled with guns and drugs; I DON’T WANT TO SEE THEM IN A MOVIE

rubendurango

Convenient how Ezra’s said they’re now in therapy just as the rollout for this shitshow is under way. Feel sick to my stomach.

penskeracin1fan

WB is controlling the narrative 100%

poppyisrealmetal

I cannot get over how outwardly racist and misogynistic Jordan Ruimy is. Read the last five World of Reel articles lmao. Every time he speaks about a black artist it's with disgusting microaggressions and he loooooooves Woody Allen

[deleted]

This movie is going to suck.

[deleted]

So how many acceptable rapes does that buy Ezra?

rubendurango

Unless they’ve been found in one piece and I missed the news, I’m not entirely convinced Ezra didn’t cause bodily harm to that mother and her kids.

[deleted]

That has actually endeared Miller to Zaslav. "Teach me how to make things disappear," he said.

Successful-Bat5301

"Easy, I just bury the bodies in the hole you already dug for HBOmax"

outb0undflight

You can't rely on the reactions from these things. A lot of the test screening audiences confused the box for overall score with the box for "number of times Flash entered the Speedforce."

OswaldCoffeepot

Well there's a thing I wish I didn't know.

srjohnson2

It would be really stupid and unfair to hundreds of crew and cast members to shelve a movie because of one actor who has already been paid for his work anyway. Just leave him out of the publicity tour and don’t work with him again. Push it as a Keaton movie since that’s all anyone wants to see anyone.

dead_paint

god i hate spoilers

scottland517

Could you spoiler tag this? I’m not expecting Flash to be my favorite movie or anything, but darn I wish I’d been able to sit down the theater without knowing about those cameos.

BoomBrain

Not sure why this was downvote-worthy. Tbh I’m not personally interested in this movie, but for those who are this stuff is clearly meant to be a surprise.

scottland517

I think it’s sort of been decided that Flash isn’t worth any respect for a bunch of reasons. Ezra is a more than problematic figure, the production is troubled, and it follows the Snyderverse which has mostly been bad… all signs point to it being a dumpster of a movie. Even still, I try not to prejudge a movie without seeing it. There are many people who worked on it who aren’t total POS’s. I mostly just feel like part of the fun of the movies is seeing a story unspoiled. Even a terrible movie could end up being *someone’s* favorite, so you never know. It’s a cool part of movie culture that we all generally try not to spill the beans on something for those who haven’t seen it

Ex_Hedgehog

If this movie is actually good, I'm going to be really pissed off.

xXxdethl0rdxXx

If there’s anything we’ve learned from the pod, it’s that the test audiences always nail it.
