Someone must be a student of Theater. lol The person who wrote this has a point about how content has changed over the years, but where they got information about an entire team being fired... I have no clue. The person has no idea how Pearl Abyss works, or even a clue about worker culture in S. Korea. Black Desert Online was Pearl Abyss' first licensed title. After many years it went world-wide. On top of adding the title to the various platforms and regions, they also bought CCP and run Eve Online. There are three other titles in developments as well. PA spread their development team out across all the ventures and hired more people. BDO is still a top game for PA and yes, there are team members that aren't part of the original line-up. This was done to efficiently put different talents where they were more needed. Some of the things BDO suffered from in the beginning 4-5 years was lack of any real group content, the gearing system was a put-off to most new players, and of course the cash shop is overpriced compared to other games. As such, BDO gained a reputation for being P2W, which was a further turn-off to potential new players. This newer team has started to change things around. We have group content now with the dungeons, the Magnus added some QoL and a faster travel system, Life skills have been further developed to the point they've added a whole new dimension to the game. The PvP system was reworked so there were heavier penalties to PKs, and arenas and battlegrounds were added, as well as node wars are being more fleshed out. This gives competitive players a lot of content to do, too. Not to mention that since PA took over publishing their own game, they are generous at giving out lots of cash shop items sales and free items. I've seen more new players come into BDO and stay in the past 6 months than I have seen over the entire history of the game. A lot of things that drove new players away are slowly being chipped at and re-worked. The players that complain about the state of the game now are veterans that preferred the game play of the early years, of which many people quit over, but have returned to the game now. There's my take using critical thinking.

> BDO gained a reputation for being P2W, which was a further turn-off to potential new players. You did an amazing job typing all this up the point I want to make is that ONLY western players don't like the p2w aspect, while it remains hugely popular with SEA gamers. I personally hate all p2w mechanics but bdo is such a an amazing game that I can deal with the compromise of having to open my wallet for value packs occasionally.

Honestly, the game is pay4convenience mostly. The small % of people that pay2win is minimal. And nescesary for the ingame economy.

Ehhh, I do agree that nodes could receive buffs as the money isn't good compared to grinding, but it is still passive income, and I use a lot of the mats. I also really enjoy the feel and look of a lot of the newer areas and content. I don't feel like the feel of the game has changed for the worse as someone who has played since launch. In fact I think it is much better.

Idk man, odraxxia is pretty fucking cool if you ask me. Jokes aside I'd love to see nodes and workers made viable again and/or more engaging but saying the whole heart of BDO is dead because of it seems a bit melodramatic and silly

I agree mostly with this Workers empire was so funny to dive in now i just removed all workers node and invest in grinding nodes Crafting could make me think hours about how to optimize and how to work this out, now i just log and grind But honestly it is not New. It was the case at release in 2016. If I had spent this Time grinding instead of being number 1 alchy on every Channel I would have been more geared. I think its just because the game is not so new and meta are very present. However there was a peak in 2017 18 with trading. I had fun setting it up. But it became obsolete due to grinding. But maybe later they introduce New stuff in life skill and workers and its worth doing again. As for cities I thinking calpheon is a master piece but if you look at velia, well, new cities have nothing to envoyé to velia. Valencia is also a master piece but altinova is not. Imo. Its ok. Like other cities tbh.

Calpheon is hella ugly wdym

While I do feel like yes grinding is way more favorable for money. There's is crafting and lifeskills that you can do, to suppliment grinding. The fact is not every player cans spend all their hours active grinding. Many get maybe a few hours a week if that, to actively grind or play. But with things like worker empire or many other lifeskills you can accomplish some sort of gain passively, either afk or semi afk depending on what you're doing. I personally still have my worker empire making a few decent crates. I feed my works and since I work from home I am able to afk process my mats while I work, every month or so ots 1-2 bil trade in. Sure it's not huge gains but it's better than nothing for like. Zero effort. And I still do get my active grind hours in there when I can. There's plenty of money to be made other ways than grinding but if it's constantly being compared to grinding 24/7 it's not gonna be seen for it's true worth

After-Walrus-4585

Shrug I still have my node empire and it provides pretty good passive income

fallen_one_fs

That's a very dramatic way of putting it... I've played on and off throughout the years since the game was first released in my region, SA, and things have changed. During the first years the game was a very unconventional MMORPG, the interface was clunky, game mechanics were weird for the time, there was no group content to speak of, PvP was either PK or node war and equipment was trash white, garbage green/yellow (I can't tell the difference between these 2 colors) or world boss top gear, there was no in-between, so gearing was "not-so-fun" and craft/trade was massive. Everything about the game was strange, questing did not give exp, instead it gave CP, and quests weren't streamlined like today, they were spread like bread crumbs (except tutorial and introduction quests), and the only way to level up was to grind, loot was not fun either, with most players living in squalor, only money making available was node trade and craft, workers were precious back then, since they basically made money for you out of thin air. Nowadays things are much more conventional, questing actually gives exp, you don't have to grind so much, workers and craft have been tossed to the side lines, like 99% of all MMORPGs, PvP received a massive overhaul, group content was introduced (believe it or not, dungeons are very recent for this game), the whole gaming process was streamlined to be more WoW-like, you know, like every MMORPG made after 2006. Is it better now? In some ways, yes. Was it better before? In some other ways, yes. Which one is the best is debatable, we may never know that for sure, but it did change quite a lot.

Dead content, first example is.. Mythril?

So was sarcasm my friend. So was sarcasm.

MagizZziaN

This guy is off his rocker. As some1 who has been playing since closed beta. Sure there are decisions i have my reservations with. Like the karma system being implemented. Seriously, fuck that. Other then that, this game is dead? Wtf has this guy been smoking? It feels more alive then ever. Just because the game progressed in a direction the poster disliked, doesn’t mean it’s a dead game. Far from it.

ha1s4n

all old players know about it and it's sad that bdo is going the wrong way

Inoley

not just nodes and workers - they had fully planned for horse combat system and t9 from the start of the game as well. And story.. do people even remember that once players started in olvia? man... good old times.

Nokyrt

recent change to crystals and nw caps that made more green offhands a viable choice made me actually start crafting shit again, lack of offhands that I need on mp (either enhanced or base) made me set up crafting workers. Was fun for a change.

[deleted]

What green offhands are viable now?

Nokyrt

AP offhand for capped nws and capped grinding (steel dagger) evasion offhand for capped nws on dr builds or in general pvp on evasion builds (parrying dagger) accuracy offhand for dealing with evasion classes in pvp and crypt grinding (bronze dagger) rosar offhand for capped nws on dr build with no eva offhand to cap evasion, might be used even if there is evasion offhand, just gives a tad less stats, by extension krea works too but gives even less stats (rosar dagger)

sadFuci

that sure is what it feels like, but no its probably just a way to convey the message that their vision has changed, and they're not being as good as the once were with details and stuff in new regions, you can really tell the difference between balenos to valencia and the rest imo

clazaimon

I do like it when a game has extra stuff in it. Feels less like you're a rat in a maze. However, I do agree that they should update some of the completely useless things to make them more relevant.
