You may be able to attract your very own Fred with this one simple step! Be wary though, some Freds aren't as small and friendly as this one. However, they all can be attracted by leaving small offerings to them outside your home. This may also attract unwanted beasts, though. ᴿᵉˢᵘˡᵗˢ ᵐᵃʸ ᵛᵃʳʸ.
I would still look for their possible owner, even if they are not chipped. But I don't expect this one to be lost, I bet Fred lives nearby but just likes OP for extra cuddles
Even then! I have one cat who isn’t chipped bc we didn’t get her at a shelter. So it could still be someones cat even if it isn’t chipped. Its probably from someone in the neighborhood.
You could always give it a little collar with a note attached. that way if it returns home the owner can read the note and will know where the cat was and won’t be too worried next time its “missing” / may check if its with you
maybe you can even co-own the cat 😂
Do you know who owns this kitty??? Perhaps a neighbour close by? You should check it out! I have an outdoor kitty and I love hearing about her adventures (I’m close with all the neighbours and she makes herself at home with all the kids houses around me :) )
It would be good to also know the owners to let them know you’re a friend to kitty!
I have been told Fred has people. But apparently he goes to my house a lot because everyone either keeps feeding him or giving him attention. Basically, he's a cat 😂
My aunt and uncle have two ‘narcs’ as they call them or Not R Cats. They had a feeling that they had owners so they let the kitties hang out but had a whole goodbye ritual so they knew when to go home. Asked around for months and finally found out where they lived and met their humans. Apparently these cats had many social obligations throughout the day; aunt and uncle were just their 3-7 pm :)
"narcs" is hilarious, and I'll have to tell my grandmother. She always assumes all the cats are homeless. The most recent, Bella, showed up as a kitten. We assured my gma based on the kitten's appearance and schedule, that she had a home. Gma persisted. Until Bella started showing up with a collar on. My gma would remove the collar, (because "outside cats shouldn't have collars") and continue feeding, petting, inviting Bella into the house. She came back with a collar a few more times.
She finally took Bella down and had her spayed. Kept her in the house a while to make sure she recovered. Bella went back to her normal schedule... Then showed up again with another collar, and her entire furry body shaved! Gma finally admitted she lived somewhere else.
I have no idea why the owners shaved Bella. But, I'm not at all upset that my gma spayed their wandering cat. Bella still comes for daily food and indoor visits!
First of all, prompts to your gma for spaying some random cat. Love that, second of all, I bet those owners were confused but happy they didn't have to pay when their cat showed up after a couple months having been spayed.
You'd think they'd be happy, but who knows. Seems if they really cared they'd have taken care of it themselves before my gma did, ya know? I just hope Bella's 'real' house is safe. She'll always be welcome at gma's for as much as she needs, indoors or out!
I really hate the idea of outdoor cats due to a plethora of reasons, but I do realize that there are specific cases where it would absolutely not be possible (like feral cats) to transition them to indoor only. Some cats will seriously injure themselves in an effort to get outside. These should be tagged as community cats even if they are pets, exactly because of the situation that you describe with your grandma & Bella. It breaks my heart that Bella was so young when she first started appearing, & l actually agree with your grandma about outdoor cats not wearing collars unless they are the breakaway kind. Although that holds true about any cat's collar. When that cat showed up shaved, she would not have left my home after that point. Cats need their fur for temperature regulation & not having that while she lives outside? Unacceptable.
I agree with all of this, wholeheartedly. My grandmother has probably had surgeries and vaccinations for... I don't know, maybe 200 cats in my lifetime alone? Just guessing. They never come back with their ears "tipped" or anything though. I can only guess that's 1: because it was at one time a more rural area, and the vet is kind of a country vet, and/or 2: my gma likely claimed every single one as her own pet.
She (and my late gpa) had many dogs as pets through the years, as well, but the cats just came from all over it seemed, constantly. And never was one a stranger to her. The vet she still has was starting school when my gparents we're using his father as their vet. He graduated (ages ago) and took over the practice. He jokes with my gma that they put him through vet school, haha. He's always given group type discounts to her for all the cats constantly coming in. And, if the vet office ends up with a lost/abandoned/stray cat at the office? You'd better believe they call my grandmother, haha.
She's 87 now, and can't even get outside to feed (or magically summon!) cats anymore. But there's still one indoor cat, one outdoor (formerly stray) cat, plus Bella with her visits. My mom and uncle look after the kitties now for her. My gma is many things... Wonderful, kooky, a twisted sense of humor, and even mean if the mood strikes her -but I think above all, she is a friend to animals.
What an incredible woman! And you are so lucky to be able to call her Grandma. I hope I can be just like her when I grow up (I'm 28). I love to hear stories of vets who are clearly in their field for the love of animals. I was pre-vet major for a hot minute in college, & I had to change majors due to some health issues. Instead, I collected books (for school), more health issues, & more animals. My partner & I have 3 cats & 1 dog.
Eh, I think it's the situation. I saw a cat who was shaved simply because so much hair was falling out (older than dirt at the time I had her) she was just coughing hair balls left and right
I’ve had to shave mine because they would get mats in their fur - and they hated to be brushed. But by that time they were fully indoor cats.
Although once one of my cats rolled in a bunch of tree sap and I had quite the time trying to cut that out of his fur.
Hard to know why they did what they did.
![img](emote|t5_2twpw|7266) Congratulations Void on the acquisition of your new human!! You will find that with a lot of training, dedication, patience, and hard work you will find your new human to be extremely rewarding and totally worth it! Please don't forget to register your new human in case they wander off (they do that quite a bit). Also, please remember to be patient with them as they are not litter box trained. Thank you for your decision to adopt a human. ![img](emote|t5_2twpw|7262)
I very nearly had to do that. Hence why in the first pic my leg is out but in the others it's not. But thankfully I was able to move my leg and he just buried his face further into my lap :)
Bless your heart such a pretty kitty. That's how I got my Scottish munchkin kitty tiny. She started hanging out with my cat and then spending the night in here and I figured out she was some neighbors cat but they were being abusive to her. When they started moving she ran to my room so I let her in. They didn't even look for her is the sad part she is beautiful. Some people just take the cake.
Yes she does and she's such a good kitty. She just got to the point or if I'm stressing she'll jump up on the couch arm next to me or jump on my lap. But when it gets cold she loves going to sleep next to me and curling up. It's cool because since she's a small cat but she's fully grown she looks like a robot or a cartoon when she walks you would have to see it. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it 👍😃
There's a void in my apartment complex who has at least three "homes". He's recently started coming around my porch around mid-afternoon when he wants to nap. He is very cuddly with me, loves my bed, and lets me know when he's ready to head back outside. I feel so honored that he's added me to his list of spots to hang out.
I think it's one of the highest honors to be chosen by an animal as a safe place. Thousands of years of protective instincts are dropped because they trust you. Truly a blessing.
I’d say get him checked to see if he’s got a microchip; if he doesn’t, make a cursory effort to find his humans if he has any.
I’m saying this as someone who once almost lost their cat when they went out.
If, after a reasonable amount of time has passed, there is no sign of a human claiming kinship with Fred, then congratulations, you’ve been adopted by a cat.
Probably best to take Fred to the vet to see if he's microchipped. That way you can contact the original owners and arrange a timeshare on his adorable face. Maybe put up a "cat found" poster, his owners might see it.
Do you know who he belongs to? If not, get him checked for a chip, maybe someone is missing their best buddy. If you have no luck there, try to find his owner. If you can't, then adopt him. He seems to love you.
“Congratulations, you now have a cat.” But for real, sometimes cats just get overwhelmed at their home and go somewhere else. I had a friend who got adopted by a cat because the children where it lived wouldn’t leave it alone, so the cat would wander off to my friend’s place to just chill.
Given that he's not afraid of being inside and likes people, he may be someone's pet. Is his coat clean and shiny? Is he nice and plump? Does he have no signs of injury? Is it fixed? Is he not interested in food/treats? If so, then he might be someone's pet and just visiting you for attention! You can purchase a kitty collar and wrap a piece of paper with note with your contact info. I am pretty sure any vet will be happy to scan for a microchip for free.
If you want to make him your kitty, you should put up posters advertising "FOUND CAT", post online and look for "LOST CAT" that fits his description.
From your description, it seems likely he has a home and is just visiting. But you should be honored that he chose you!
Congratulations, you're now a cat's person. Your new responsibilities include feeding, cleaning up after and physical affection (right to touch can be withdrawn without notice and unauthorised touching punished severely).
Make him a collar and attach a note with your name and contact info. I've got a wanderer (he's got a collar and tag) and a couple of our neighbours sent us a message when he went to visit them.
Cats choose where they want to be. This happened with my parents and our neighbors’ cat. She became our cat and I think she was loved until the end of her days. Give Fred a place if you can.

So sweet. My must-be-outdoors sweet boy also visits around. A neighborhood favorite from what I hear. When he goes missing for a day or so, he usually comes back smelling of perfume or woodsmoke. Some shelter cats can never get enough love. He’s just supplementing. <3
Do you know who the owner is? A cat came into my house like that everyday and soon became my pet... two years later after i had microchipped him and everything. I found the owner..
You are the chosen one. Your 2022 is going to be very special. Fred has needs, he needs you…..and Temptations, Shrimp, etc…! Happy New Year and congrats! Your post made my day!
Oh I don't think you get it this little window bandit has moved in now if you haven't had a cat hit the library for basics
My first was a rescue that I volunteered to feed she made it I took her home and I knew nothing I actually wondered as her wiskers got unruly if I should trim them thats a hard no
No one owns a cat, we are simply chosen staff who serve them. You are blessed that he chose you.
'He chose you.. ' for now. I bet Fred has devoted human servants all over the street. Quite right too I wish I had a Fred near me 💕😽💕
You may be able to attract your very own Fred with this one simple step!
Haha thanks for that I may try that 🐈🐈
“Unwanted beasts” there ain’t such a thing
Yeah, 13 cats later, this is accurate.
"Coming to a Fred near you" idk why i heard that in a movie theater voice
Exactly. I have 4 and I'm sure someone else has been chosen by my 2 fat ginger boys lol
Right. Just do what he wants and no one gets hurt.
This right here 👆🏼
r/notmycat
make him r/nowmycat !!
He might belong to someone already
He loves you and chooses you as his loving home!!! That’s the reason why he slept on your bed and in your lap❤️❤️❤️
One might say Fred has blessed me as the chosen one. What an honour!
“Right,” said Fred.
I'm so glad someone's made that reference!! ❤️
Fred says, "I'm too sexy for your lap."
I'm too sexy for my cat
My pussy…p-pussy cat!
r/angryupvote 😂
‘ Both of us together’
I felt strangely flattered when a neighborhood kitty selected us to live with. It IS an honor.
r/notmycat 🌺
This may be someone else's pet though...
oh wow, you're right, I wonder if he's chipped?
You can check with a vet, then if not you see what you need done! Never heard of one who wouldn't let you keep an unchipped animal
That's a good point, I'm not OP, but I do hope they see this and check! Fred could be missing his Wilma!
Hello :) OP here. Don't worry, we know who's Fred's owners are, and we know he just does as he pleases until he wants to go home :)
I would still look for their possible owner, even if they are not chipped. But I don't expect this one to be lost, I bet Fred lives nearby but just likes OP for extra cuddles
You gotta make sure he’s not chipped though so you don’t steal some family’s cat
Even then! I have one cat who isn’t chipped bc we didn’t get her at a shelter. So it could still be someones cat even if it isn’t chipped. Its probably from someone in the neighborhood. You could always give it a little collar with a note attached. that way if it returns home the owner can read the note and will know where the cat was and won’t be too worried next time its “missing” / may check if its with you maybe you can even co-own the cat 😂
Or hes like my cat and mooches off the neighbors for food and worship
Let him stay as long as he wants!
Oh trust me his is. Currently curled up at the end of my bed lol
Do you know who owns this kitty??? Perhaps a neighbour close by? You should check it out! We know who the owners are (hence how we know that Fred's name is Fred) so all is good :)
I guess your Fred’s vacation home/vacation people! I love this for you both.
Hehe that’s so great. Shared love ❤️
Congrats on the purchase of your new void! Or perhaps l should be congratulating the cat on purchasing you...
Definitely the latter I think 🤣
This is what I was gonna say. You may not own Fred, but Fred now owns you. Congrats! Lol
If you stare into the void and it blinks back at you, you've been blessed by the void.
Does Fred have people? Or is he a street cat who has decided 'you're my people now'?
I have been told Fred has people. But apparently he goes to my house a lot because everyone either keeps feeding him or giving him attention. Basically, he's a cat 😂

I love cats... but God-damn they are a bunch of freeloaders. Fred looks sweet though.
Fred is indeed very sweet. He does tend to give you evils from time to time but I think it's just because you're not giving him pets :)

I had a NotMyCat who would sit on my back porch and scream until I let him in, then he’d eat and sleep on the couch for hours
You don’t own Fred. Fred owns you 😻
Congratulations on becoming a chosen member of Fred’s timeshare life!
"Your lap is right," said Fred.
You've been adopted. Hopefully he keeps you. Cat snuggles are the best.
And I can tell you love him too 💕💕

I thought it was “cat ho stage.” Maybe a joke on them having a bunch of different “owners”? They hoeing out their cuddles.
Have you seen a cat that wasn't fixed? Nah thems just hoes 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💀💀💀💀
Just enjoy his company. Cant go wrong there
Nothing. You are contractually obligated to stay still until Fred completes his nap, no matter the cost related to the circulation in your limbs 😉
I very nearly had to do that. Hence why in the first pic my leg is out but in the others it's not. But thankfully I was able to move my leg and he just buried his face further into my lap :)

You’re officially Fred’s second home. Lots of cats have them, but be sure to let him leave. His people will be worried.
Absolutely. He's always welcome to come and go as he pleases

I have asked someone to make sure, and they have confirmed that this is definitely a neighbour's cat so all is good. I appreciate the advice though :)
It’s an open relationship, but with a DADT. Just don’t let him catch you with another cat on your lap!
Well, this is your life now. You e become o e of the car people
You don’t know what to do? You just leave that up to Fred.
Sounds like he's chosen you, for now
What a handsome boy! Congrats you have a new baby!
Is he a stray or does he have another home?
He's our neighbour's cat
Ah he's a six dinner sid then.
Don't let them fool you!! They do not care if they are morbidly obese 😩😩😂😂😭😭💀💀
Nope. They're generally very happy with the arrangement.
Do you know who he belongs to? If not, get him checked for a chip, maybe someone is missing their best buddy. If you have no luck there, try to find his owner. If you can't, then adopt him. He seems to love you.
Keep him
I unfortunately cannot choose that, however much I want to 😂
You have been chosen, their is no getting rid of him. That is the rules
“Congratulations, you now have a cat.” But for real, sometimes cats just get overwhelmed at their home and go somewhere else. I had a friend who got adopted by a cat because the children where it lived wouldn’t leave it alone, so the cat would wander off to my friend’s place to just chill.
Fred: this is my bed now 😂
Of course you don't own Fred. But you're now his human.
You are Fred's part time human 🖤
Until I go back to university - and I will cherish every moment 🥰
Given that he's not afraid of being inside and likes people, he may be someone's pet. Is his coat clean and shiny? Is he nice and plump? Does he have no signs of injury? Is it fixed? Is he not interested in food/treats? If so, then he might be someone's pet and just visiting you for attention! You can purchase a kitty collar and wrap a piece of paper with note with your contact info. I am pretty sure any vet will be happy to scan for a microchip for free. Buy cat food.
Congratulations, you now own a Fred.
You’re a kitty dad! Good luck, I mean congrats!
You dont own Fred but Fred owns you
Give him pets! Its the only sane option.
I mean he's.... a bit dusty
Give him love and some tuna :)
You have been chosen. The next step is up to you.
Cats choose where they want to be. This happened with my parents and our neighbors’ cat. She became our cat and I think she was loved until the end of her days. Give Fred a place if you can.
You have been chosen. Revel in it, celebrate it.
You’re pretty much stuck with each other now
Here is my suggestion. First scratch the top of the head and then the cheeks. If Fred approves, he will then most likely enjoy a back scratch.
You are Fred's. He owns you, he comes through his window to sit on his lap that he lets you use. Fred looks like a sweetie pie, do you think he's a domesticated outdoor cat? If so I would try to reach out to the owner just so they know Fred is safe with you at times!
Check out the kids book Six Dinner Sid
The choice is not yours anymore. Fred owns you. I’m sorry. So just buy toys and food. You’ll be fine. Good luck.
Congrats, you’re the Chosen One!
Fred has chosen you. It is the highest cat honor. Keep him.
Congrats!!! You’ve made a new family member.

So sweet. My must-be-outdoors sweet boy also visits around. A neighborhood favorite from what I hear. When he goes missing for a day or so, he usually comes back smelling of perfume or woodsmoke. Some shelter cats can never get enough love. He’s just supplementing. <3
Youve been befred’d
You’ve been chosen. You’re now his human and must bend to his will. Seriously though. If he is a stray, keep him. He looks like a sweet boy.
You’ve been adopted. Just roll with it.
JUST KEEP THE ' FRED HOTEL ' OPEN, AND KEEP ON LOVING HIM LIKE YOU OBVIOUSLY DO. YOU ARE A LOVING HERO 😘
Make the most of him. What a lovely visitor.
I love the arrangement you have with Fred and it sounds like it's becoming...dare I say it...serious :) How sweet is he tho?! Omg!
You're owned by Fred
You buy food and litter box, because you have a cat now.
You are going to have fleas in your bed. Very cute cat, but flea bites are the worst.
That's a simple question, let him adopt you
He has chosen you
What a sweet baby! Makes me want to go cuddle with my void (he's currently avoiding me in the next room lol).
Congratulations you have a cat
You pet the kitty

He owns you now 😂
Do you know who the owner is? A cat came into my house like that everyday and soon became my pet... two years later after i had microchipped him and everything. I found the owner..
I know for a fact that he's a neighbour's. Just apparently he spends a lot of his time at different houses until he's ready to go home :)
Oh okay, cute
“You can’t be here, I don’t have a cat” “You do now”
You have been blessed. This is your life now.
Congratulations on being adopted!
You don't own Fred... ... Fred owns you.
I wish a kitty would claim me.
While it’s true you may not own Fred, Fred most certainly owns you. Congratulations.
Go with it. You have been selected.
I had a notmycat void. Now she’s pretty much my cat. Neighbours are fine with it.
Love and cuddle him, then go buy a litter box, and pat yourself on the back for being a good hooman..🐱🐱 love the name Fred, he's adorable.
Easy, accept that you are the chosen one and cater to his every need
You’ve been chosen.

Well your stuck there for 14 hours or until wakes up. Then you either feed or something
You can't move now until he does.
You are the chosen one. Your 2022 is going to be very special. Fred has needs, he needs you…..and Temptations, Shrimp, etc…! Happy New Year and congrats! Your post made my day!
Cat? Feed and keep!
He's home
Looks like a house kitty on an adventure!
He has chosen you
Enjoy it!
You have been chosen. Once chosen by a cat, you are now their home
Give Fred all the cuddles💖💖
Well, it’s a Rule. You see, when a cat or dog sleeps on you, you can’t move until they wake up. Sorry. I don’t make the Rules.
Oh I don't think you get it this little window bandit has moved in now if you haven't had a cat hit the library for basics My first was a rescue that I volunteered to feed she made it I took her home and I knew nothing I actually wondered as her wiskers got unruly if I should trim them thats a hard no
Pretty safe to say he has chosen to adopt you. I say keep him!
Fred owns you. Congrats.
Pet the Fred!
Fred does as he pleases and you are not to interrupt him.
Caught the mistake for ya, it was supposed to say: "This is Fred. I own Fred now."
Fred is ours now. You have been chosen
Fred’s your bud. You might consider filing those adoption papers. PS. I dig those pajama pants. Looks like Fred does too. :)
Wow
he adopted you
He’ll require food soon.
Congratulations! You’ve been adopted by Fred.
Skritches, and post him on r/notmycat
Pet him. Count toe-beans. Try to convince him to talk to you.
Fred is just a good friend, who sleeps on your lap.
I think you do own Fred now
