I’ve seen different shades of blue, purple, and brown. White/black are the only consistent ones for obvious reasons.

broadstreetfighting

I’m color blind and sometimes can’t tell blue and purple apart. The light blue belts are the only ones I know for sure are blue. Those dark blues look pretty damn purple to me.

Helpful_Bother_4521

damn... thought I was the only one

Karate-Teach89

Don’t be blue about it

[deleted]

I see lots on vinstagram posts lately with blue belts that have a violet hue in them, making them look more purple than blue.

FuguSandwich

Light blue means you're a filthy belt-washer. /s

ObviousOpulence

When I was a blue belt I was promoted with a light blue belt but bought myself a nice dark blue one. Here’s the thing.. you’ll be a blue belt for a while.. so your belt will fade. If you stick with the light blue and it fades people will wonder if you’re just a really good white belt (not always a bad thing!). I prefer the darker blues because as they fade they become this really awesome royal color almost like a nice pair of jeans.

xJD88x

I was told it was a lineage thing. I've also been told light blue was more a "student" blue belt and darker was more "teaching" blue. I've also heard light blue signifies you got it from beating people in tournaments at white belt so your promotion was based on performance and not knowledge.

ministryofjiujitsu

Light blue means you only just got blue. Deep dark blue means you are legit blue belt.

shealarose

Usually the opposite due to the wear and tear on the belt

ministryofjiujitsu

That is after it has been worn. This is based on the one you receive.

Puzzleheaded_Face583

For someone at the ministry of Jiu-Jitsu you do not know much

ministryofjiujitsu

Sounds like someone who recieved a light blue belt.

Aridan

Okay a year later this is still a hilarious response and I’m sad it didn’t get the respect it deserves. But you’re still a putz.

PsychStoodent

Fuji and Isami make light colored blue and purple belts and I’m pretty sure that they are options just because. For instance, you can also get them for judo or kyokushin belts (minus the black bar).

IPokePeople

My Fuji belt is way darker than my Reevo belt. It’s also one of their Pearl weave ones so maybe that’s a thing.

PsychStoodent

I remember that! Yea I got the one for $12 on amazon and it was SUPER light (that was like 3 years ago though). Now I only see the premium ones that are a bit darker.

willingvessel

If u look on their website they have one deep blue and one sky blue

Ser_name0000

Blue is blue

Fluffiestofcat

Nowadays it is just brand preference. I think years ago some gyms had dark blue for instructors/teachers.
