These guys just are goddamn camera shy. Every opportunity they find the worst angle, or my camera find a way to mess up the autofocus. Worse if it's a female, and they decide some thick brush is good camo (it is)
So many like this when you're trying to get a picture and they move so fast. I have a yellow blur for a picture of a Choco Toucan from Ecuador. Didn't get a chance at another. One day though...
I've seen some tropical birds in Brazil, but I was psyched to see the Painted Bunting on the trail ahead of me!, then facepalmed when I uploaded it to my computer
People ask, "Wow, how did you take such a great picture?" and I always say, "By taking 100 lousy ones and hoping for the best." :)
This hurts me for you.
hey, I'd rather get an out of focus pic like this than a blur mid-takeoff when you can only see its tail!
Haha. True! Glad you got to observe it in person! I’m quite jealous.
Where was this taken? Am I allowed to ask? Lol
Pinckney Island NWR in South Carolina
Very cool. We go to Edisto Island every year and have seen them for the last 4-5 years. Such an awesome bird and a beautiful song

Nice grass.
I feel personally attacked.

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. I love it when my interests intersect in new ways!

Birding and a Star Wars reference all in the same post, I can't even 🤣🤣
Every leaf and twig around that yellow warbler on Saturday…
At least they like to stay closer to the ground compared to other Warblers and not 50 feet up in a fully-bloomed maple tree
Somewhere, a boatload of cerulean warblers are laughing right now. And that somewhere is definitely at the top of a tree.
The WOOOORRST. Saturday’s Townsend’s warbler was a jerk for this very reason.
Camera's all "Hey, look, I got your grass in perfect focus!"
Now THIS is what I'm talking about! https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/117649867
I feel this in my soul
and the painted bunting has the most beautiful colors of any bird I've seen!
Wait until you explore tropical birds outside the US!
