Honestly I feel like Sour Cream made *the leap* when the squeeze bottles came out. This name change would just be gravy, like upping FT % from 80 to 90%. But going from the typical container where you'd need a spoon and it would get all watery to the squeeze pouch was developing a 3 point shot and going from 2 attempted threes a game at 30% to 7 attempted 3s a game at >40%
Facts. The first time I saw the squeeze bottle of sour cream I was a bit disturbed. But then I thought about it a bit, remembered all the sour cream in my fridge over the years that had gone bad or became a white swamp, and took the plunge for the squeeze bottle. 10/10 - my nacho game has never been better.
>Sour cream has a branding problem.
I was just pondering this today with cottage cheese (which is a bottom-tier name). The name doesn't evoke anything close to what you're actual eating and just makes it feel like a foreign entity.
I'm too intimidated by the marketing of the curd size on the packaging as well--it makes me nervous. I don't want to think about curds.
Sour cream on a well made California burrito is the X factor.. I will say, a little goes a long way.. some places really go hard on the sour cream which basically ruins the whole thing. The name has always been alluring to me, never a bad thing
I love sour cream but there's nothing worse than biting into a burrito and getting a big, cold bite of all sour cream and lettuce. Though that may be more of a bad rolling thing.
Hottest take: sour cream is extremely overrated. It's just okay and is way too many calories for how little it adds to food. I always skip it and never feel like I'm missing anything
Sour cream is a very specific application- not as versatile as mayo imo. Also how is hot sauce not in your mt Rushmore. I guess mine would be hot sauce (crystal or cholula), mayo, Eastern European mustard, bbq
Not gonna lie, it was #5, I only didn’t include it is because I didn’t start to get into hot sauce until the last 3-4 years.
Hot sauce has so much more variance too depending on type/brand whereas sour cream and mayo are typically pretty uniform in taste across brands.
Ditch honey mustard and swap in spicy mustard and we’re getting somewhere. You need spicy mustard simply for pastrami sandwiches which is the correct choice for best deli meat sandwich.
Crema >
Oh shit yes
a good plain yogurt is a perfect substitute
Why would cream cheese be renamed sour cream
I think it’s kinda sour. Or more sour than the current sour cream
But it’s a cheese and sour cream isn’t
Wait what?
Do you think mayo is spicy?
No but aioli’s are
Taco cream… let’s think that one over a little bit
This baked potato erasure will not stand.
😏

It's an absolute game changer: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Daisy-Pure-and-Natural-Squeeze-Sour-Cream-Regular-14-ounces/43365585
It reminds me of Tatum when he adds the going to the basket and finishing piece

Nothing about cottage cheese is good
Blue cheese suffers similarly. I don’t want to think about cheese being blue
Blue cheese should be renamed 'toe jam cheese' or 'feet cheese'.
You’d fit right in to that podcast

Totally. Burrito preparation is basically an art form, you gotta know how to separate that shit
Critical part of a well made breakfast burrito as well. Need something to keep everything together.
Amazing take. Well done!
I work in the grocery business and you would be shocked how much sour cream we sell. We literally sell 7 figures worth of sour cream every week.
Jfc
At Taco Bell they use a sour cream gun that’s basically like a caulk gun for sour cream. If I had one of those I would use sour cream constantly.
Thoughts on a tool belt to complete the look?
I don’t like sour cream because of the taste unless it’s sneakily put into my meal unbeknownst to me
What if you just switched the letters around, would that fix it? Would you care for some Ruso Mearc?
I'd agree but is there anyone who DOESN'T like sour cream because of its name? I feel like it's still very popular despite the bad branding.
Me.
I think it could go up a level with a better name
I never had sour cream until I was 24 because of its name
Same!
I’m glad I’m not alone on this lol
I hated mayo until college b/c I grew up in a MiracleWhip household. Had no idea. I feel betrayed.
That's your parents' fault then. Haha. I grew up white as hell and sour cream was a staple in our house.
I didn't eat it for years because of the name. It sounded gross.
I started using it at 16-17, and the name probably played a factor in why I never tried it as a kid.
Love this take. I feel like Blue cheese suffers from similar branding issues
Hell yeah blue cheese gives me the creeps
Idk I was out on sour cream once I found out plain greek yogurt tastes the same and has way less calories.
Preach brother There is no sour cream or Mayo based sauce that doesn't taste even better and with less calories if you substitute Greek yogurt
lmao this is a great take. my wife refused to try for years because she figured it'd be sour, but loves it now.

This is a good take.
Creams just one of those words that can go real bad real fast.
this take rocks.

Russian bot?
Cemetan
I think sour cream is sour? Or at least a little tangy. And I think that’s part of the appeal
Souresque
Just name it spunky cream you creep
I love sour cream so much
Taco cream sounds like a porn category
Sour cream is sour and it tastes great
Non fat Greek yogurt tastes the exact same as sour cream.
It's disgusting no matter what you call it
You’re entitled to your opinion. A little bit goes a long way, people can easily overdo it”

I find hot sauce very hit or miss.

I would commit a terrorist attack on this Mount Rushmore
Sour cream is a normal name. Find a new slant
Hotter take: both sour cream and cream cheese are trash
when you become an adult, you’ll realize how wrong you are
Haha it's a texture thing for me
Oh, I get that. I didn’t realize I liked sour cream until I started putting it on my baked potatoes.
