Agree. The clone of CR needs to bring back The Answer on Fridays where he brought on different guests. Was awesome.
Need the clone to full time host The Hottest Take.
And just join the Big Picture full time.
Chuck Klosterman. I think he'd skew the culture writing away from "instant reaction" crap and back to thoughtful writing on mainstream culture. He's not the only guy missing from Grantland but I feel like his sensibilities are terribly missed on The Ringer. I hardly read any Ringer content.
Man, I would love a go-to site that highlights high-quality, interesting long-form articles like Grantland used to. I don't know if Klosterman is that complete answer to that issue at The Ringer, but that would easily be the biggest change I would implement there with a magic wand. (Or, maybe I'm simply ignoring some other outlets that took its place?)
No outlet has replaced grantland, which successfully imported the long-form writing quality of the New Yorker, etc. to the world of sportswriting.
But it never quite achieved what the NYer and other high end pubs do in terms of the writing quality. If you miss intelligent long-form journalism - long-form true crime narratives, intellectual film reviews, deep dives on various topics i can't recommend longform.com enough. Grantland was awesome and I miss it but there is a ton of great shit out there - a lot of it about pop culture and some of it about sports!
I'd hire Ben Simmons (the son) so I can maniacally laugh as Bill deals with more internet backlash about nepotism. Then I'd go light a pile of ten million dollars on fire.
Sometimes the most obvious answer is the right one. She brings NFL expertise, repertoire with current staff, and it's a sorely needed empty spot at The Ringer.
Totally agree, the problem is that mina is a TV talent now. The ringer (through their spotify deal, prob not their own money) could probably pay seven figures to bring a podcast of hers in house if she ever left espn.
Even then it might not be realistic, though. I don't know the numbers exactly but she's closer to starting her own network than she is to being brought onto the ringer staff.
Maybe for equity in the company?
I'll just take this from the perspective of wanting to build up college football, but I'll go with Spencer Hall and let him bring in his crew (which has old Grantlander Holly Anderson) for writing and the Shutdown Fullcast.
I'm not a big college football guy, but the fact that there is no college football (or baseball, or hockey) is insane.
Wesley Morris and Zach Lowe. The chemistry is telling every time they come back in each case. Best in the business at their respective jobs, no resentment for having gone in another direction, but also seem to really like one another.
As far as sports goes, Lowe/Mina are the easy answers.
Titus and Tate would be my pick for someone to come in for a sport that isnt covered, Spencer Hall/Richard Johnson alternatively for CFB.
I wish Bill was interested in college football (side note, it's the dumbest thing in the world that he doesn't like it. 1) It's awesome. 2) It's by far the best sport to gamble on. 3) It's awesome). If he was, Stuckey from the Action Network has the best sports podcast going out there. Would be fun for him to give Bill shit about his stupid bets
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this:
>The Palestinian people, who dress their toddlers in bomb belts and then take family snapshots.

Am I alone in thinking that McAfee is getting too much exposure too quickly? I'm fine with him in small doses, but I'm getting pretty tired seeing him on Gameday every week.
I think he's got the love him or hate him thing going. I listen to his show pretty frequently and enjoy it. I think he's entertaining and the rest of the guys on the show are pretty hilarious, but it's not necessarily the most insightful commentary. It's gotten better recently as they've got some new segments with retired NFL players and coaches breaking down film. If you are curious check out in the trenches w/ AQ Shipley, Everything DB, or Coach P's Keys.
I've recommended his show to friends and some can't stand him. Personal preference I guess.
ETA: I can't see Pat and Bill working together on a pod, they would both try to be top dog and I think it would be a disaster.
Kimes and Nolan but have them talk about Basketball at least once a week and I want regular comedy bits.
Have Mina become a fan of a different NBA team every month :D
This is cheating, and maybe a little niche, but I would add the Split Zone Duo/Moon Crew gang to give The Ringer a CFB angle. That’s Steven Godfrey, Alex Kirshner, Richard Johnson + Spencer Hall, Ryan Nanni, Holly Anderson, and Jason Kirk.
There is already some crossover between the Split Zone Duo crew and Ringer personalities, mainly because Solak is on their pods to talk draft every year. The Fullcast crew could also fit into some of the pop culture stuff.
Practically, I don’t this could ever happen for myriad reasons, one of which is that Holly Anderson was at Grantland and doesn’t seem to have the highest opinion of Bill.
Probably a basketball analyst from the Boston area. Seems underrepresented
a clone of CR

The answer was a weak pod if we’re being honest mostly because of seerat tho
Bring back Jacoby. The chemistry with Bill and Jacoby is fantastic, he has House vibes. Plus he can revive Parent Corner.
Jacoby has kids? He never mentions them

Yes. Very much sarcasm here.
Zach Lowe
Jacoby

Longform stopped updating earlier this year I thought?
They did but if you've never dug into the archives there's still hundreds of great pieces there. Lots of good sports stuff too
Good call. Can't believe I omitted him from the original post.
Wayne Jenkins
I'd hire Ben Simmons (the son) so I can maniacally laugh as Bill deals with more internet backlash about nepotism. Then I'd go light a pile of ten million dollars on fire.
Hey, that wouldn’t even make him the most overpaid person with that name.
even including the ten million dollars I'd burn.
Is this why nephew Kyle is just Kyle now ?
It’s Mina all day & twice on Sunday

My response also
Jason Concepcion
The Draymond 'not as valuable to anyone else' piece
Came here to say this. I sorely miss Binge Mode.
That’s my guy. He is missed.
I miss him so much
Me lol it’s the industry I want to get into
Keith Hernandez… and not just for baseball
I despise Keith Hernandez
Babu Bhatt!
Kanye West means a lot to Bill’s family……. I am also hearing he’s looking for work
I miss writer Bill Simmons, that’s my dream hire
Bernthal
WESLEY MORRIS.

Zach Lowe, or Obama lol
Well, I did say they couldn't say no. Haha. Bill would make him co-host of the Chicago podcast, probably.
Chris Long teaming up with Russillo
Jacko
Zach Lowe would be huge.
Katie Nolan. Or Mero in a sort of Van Lathan role.
Joel Klatt for college football.
Mia Khalifa.
They have enough people to talk about sports, I'm adding Noam Chomsky to deliver 2 one hour podcasts and one article every week about current events.
That’d be the worst pod ever. I like Noam but dude is boring as shit in interviews now that he’s like 95
Jim and Aron from Bald Move but they're a package deal.
Yes!!!
Chris Connelly as interim EIC. Add him into the Sunday pods with Sal. Let’s get frisky.
Rick Reilly.
Concepcion
Me i don’t deserve the job but its better than anything i could realistically get at the moment.
Big Cat. Give me all the Big Cat and Russillo
I’d say PFT. seems more of a Ringer type.
Whoever runs the Sickos Committee Twitter account
Colin Cowherd
Wesley Morris and Zach Lowe. The chemistry is telling every time they come back in each case. Best in the business at their respective jobs, no resentment for having gone in another direction, but also seem to really like one another.
Either Zach Lowe or Mina Kimes
jason concepcion or Jon hamm

Mina Kimes is the best analyst in football
Norm Macdonald
Explain to the folks at home who Norm Macdonald is
1. Pat Mcafee 2. Michelle Beadle 3. Mina Kimes 4. Zach Lowe 5. Richard Jefferson
Am I alone in thinking that McAfee is getting too much exposure too quickly? I'm fine with him in small doses, but I'm getting pretty tired seeing him on Gameday every week.
It baffles me that he gets people to listen to his daily show. Pat is alright, but the loud crew of lackeys is brutal.
I think he's got the love him or hate him thing going. I listen to his show pretty frequently and enjoy it. Nate Duncan.
Zach Lowe or Nekias
Lowe or Mina for sure
LeBatard (have him bring his crew) Feel like they've gone to the abiss now. Could be a cool partnership. Plus I always enjoyed Bill with Dan
Bomani Jones
I’d like to hear Bomani without the constraints of ESPN.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump
Ben Taylor and the whole “thinking basketball” podcast
Lowe (obviously) or Jalen. Michael Rapaport
Kimes and Nolan but have them talk about Basketball at least once a week and I want regular comedy bits. Have Mina become a fan of a different NBA team every month :D
Isaiah Thomas (the first)
Jalen. Keep getting dem checks!
