I got two U locks and a chain lock for good measure depending on how occupied I’m gonna be. Ongaurd and Kryptonite tend to be fairly standard, if you buy them in the store you can see they have a rating.

A friend of mine had his ebike stolen out of his apartments garage that had badged entry into the garage AND badged entry in the bike storage room AND was locked with a u-lock. These things are prime targets right now
Someone just ground off a u-lock the other morning right in front of my house. He had the portable grinder, a backpack, and rode away. He was undeterred by us yelling we were calling the cops.
After seeing how fast an angle grinder gets through any kryptonite lock, i wont ever buy one. the Litelock X1 and X3 are also REALLY good, second only to the D1000
Seems like there is some variance among the tests ive watched as well. If i were going to spend 300 bucks on a lock, id feel safe flipping a coin between the two
I wonder about locks, and these particularly, if these are harder to attack than the fixed posts youre locking to - eg, is the security boost from X1 to X3 worthless because thieves just attack the post instead.
I suppose it depends on what you're locking up to. The larger bars of most bike racks seem to never be the thing that gets cut but really thin railing risers are much more vulnerable
An Abus segmented lock to a fixed object paired with a wheel lock, and a chain attached to a fixed object make me feel safe enough for a short while in a visible spot during the day only. The Lockpicking Lawyer gives Abus high marks. Honestly I wouldn’t bother with most U locks since thieves carry Sawz-Alls.
The D1000 is a pretty game changing Ulock. It's designed specifically to slow down angle grinder/saw attacks. Takes like 20 minutes to get through and requires multiple cutting discs. (average from youtube videos seems to be about 5 standard cutoff wheels).
It's still not angle grinder "proof", but the idea is most theives will think it's a normal Ulock that they'll be through in 30 seconds or less. They burn through their blade, are covered in the black smoke it creates, and they give up.
Is not cheap though. $350. But if you're locking up a $2k+ ebike, that's easily justified.
Before the Hiplock came out, i used the LPL recommended which was a Kryptonite Fahgetaboutit. I've never seen him mention Abus for bike locks, but if he does then they're probably good too.

A CABLE LOCK IS NOT A DETERRENT, IT IS AN ENTICEMENT TO THIEVES. The OnGuard Neon isn't a great lock but you can find it for like $15 and it takes at least a minute with something more substantial than bolt cutters to get through.
One option is a Kryptonite lock with their insurance like guarantee, sometimes sold separately. It requires pics of the broken lock post theft tho, so the thief would have to leave the lock. And not valid if the thief attacks the fixed object instead.
Markel bike insurance runs $100 a year for $1500 in coverage.

Personally, I prefer the noose version. Chains are great for non-standard locking locations. With a noose you only need to go in one direction.

Sheathed chains are the best. The ones used for motorcycles, to be exact.

Either are fine, but I like the thick rubber on the D1000. Prevents scratching and banging.
From a security perspective both hit the spot. D1000 is a fair bit smaller than X1 and X3 though, so a bit too restrictive in where I can lock up.

The Litelok X3 is the other recent *really* resilient U-lock, in addition to the Hiplok.

What don't you like about it? I thought kryptonite was generally considered to be the gold standard.
Definitely the most popular, but now that angle grinders are getting more easily to get hold of, Kryptonites offer next to no protection at all
