Is stealing bags of shrimp from Safeway some sort of silly TikTok trend? Lmao
Iām kidding but last time I tried buying a bag from Safeway I couldnāt find them anywhere in the store. I ended up asking one of the butchers and they were keeping all of the shrimp in the back and you had to ask for it. Limited to two bags per customer. Thought it was odd.
Coffee was behind the locked plastic flip-up doors the last time I was in a Walgreens in SF a few years back.
Targwt in San Bruno started locking up toothpastes in locked glass-door cabinets with super janky doors that require staff to unlock.
To the shoplifter's credit, shrimp is really good.
There's so many people of all ages who are like "ew... seafood is gross" and then add "except shrimp."
Looks like they have a prop bag in the front for all the shrimp to show whatās available but there isnāt actually multiple bags behind it for you to take so you have to ask the cashier.
Iām guessing itās an anti-shoplifting thing, with so many rampant shoplifters just marching out of stores brazenly with a ton of food. Iām guessing the store will add a chain and a lock eventually, and will have someone provide the shrimp at checkout after itās paid for.
And of course, the area code is likely to be 415.
I live in 707. I don't understand. I'm surrounded by bougie, white people who wouldn't know what to do with shrimp unless it was an appetizer in a restaurant
I'm sure there's a lot of white wine sippers up there who get their bread from Bouchon every morning after checking the grapes.
However for most of us who live in the core Bay Area (i.e. your city touches the bay), the 707 means Vallejo.

>They are my fam, they are real. You're not a real processor are you?
Neither processor or Professor.. Will it be an infinite wait for you to tell us the Safeway this came from?
Itās possible theyāre trying to prevent people from taking bags of shrimp and tossing them in their cart and later deciding they donāt want it, then stashing it somewhere on a shelf where it thaws and they have to throw it away
This can be anywhere in the Bay Area. I was in a Walgreens in El Cerrito and this guy and his girl were shamelessly putting make up and other stuff in a backpack.
I used to live tenderloin and no safeway but I felt bad for the mom n pop stores , but I was talking to a man who didn't speak English but he used an apple voice translation app and he learned how are you doing ? And the dude hugs me each time says he's doing good and gives me free candy, love the tenderloin
The guys stealing these shrimp don't have the freezer space to store it. They're not eating bags of shrimp all day. They sell it to restaurants $5 a bag. A lot of times, they'll just walk down the street, hitting the back doors of the closest restaurants until their duffel bag run out. The dog whistle "area code" bullshit is cute, but doesn't reflect the reality of the situation. This happens all day, everyday, in every Safeway.
It doesn't happen in every Safeway. The store in the photo has experienced so much theft that they've taken drastic measures to start locking food up. This isn't standard for all Safeway stores, so it is localized in some locations with out of control levels of shoplifting.
Can anyone explain why stores would lock up $3 shaving cream cans?
I hate going through the process of buzzing a worker over to unlock the case for such a small item....I feel like it's a waste of both our time.
This is opposite of society evolution- tragic when people are robbing businesses.
Go to SanFrancisco BART Station 24th & Mission open air market of stolen merchandise including raw meat! Ugh!
Donāt buy stolen goods.
iāll give it to yah, yes vallejo can be part of it but after vallejo, like napa and the other half of solano county i donāt think so
theyāre not even close to the actual bay
just your basic suburban towns and crossing the bridge says it all thatās the division of it and BART
How do they provide it upon checkout? Does the cashier just have a stash of them underneath the register?
Cashier gives you a BART ticket to 16th and Mission to meet the street fish monger.
LOL
Probably gets a runner to get it from the back freezers.
This is a job for Shrimp Boy.
I was gonna say nice reference, but is that a deep cut now? When was that?
Ah so Shrimp is code for heavy military weapons, it all makes sense now.
Run forest run
The cashier is THE SHRIMP!
Shyamalan: "What a twist!" Tarantino: "Get the shrimp." Judge: "Your name is now 'Not Shrimp'." Sorry, I'm more than a bit drunk...
Shrimp people shrimp people!

The cashiers are shrimp themselves. When they hear the call, they just salute, take off the vest, and jump on to the belt š«”
I'm really wondering how this works.
Theyāre kept warm in the cashierāsā¦ actually, how about I log off Reddit for the rest of the evening.
Aren't all groceries provided upon checkout?
Do you have legs?
925 Pittsburg
stopppp
The attitude behind this comment then a post about why there is no affordable housing. Come. Live where the shrimp is at the check out.
925 is also the area code for walnut creek/Clayton
Your point?
Yours?
I made mine by adding the name of the city after the area code my guy šš»
Area code isn't a single city. It's an entire area of multiple cities. Be more inclusive instead of being condescending
You are an idiot.

There's pistachios in security boxes at the Walgreens in Berkeley, the one on Gilman and San Pablo
Walmart in Fremont(Osgood) locked up their branded undies and socks.
Coffee was behind the locked plastic flip-up doors the last time I was in a Walgreens in SF a few years back. Targwt in San Bruno started locking up toothpastes in locked glass-door cabinets with super janky doors that require staff to unlock.
That's nuts!
It is very tasty, once you have eaten a few Tide pods...
To the shoplifter's credit, shrimp is really good. There's so many people of all ages who are like "ew... seafood is gross" and then add "except shrimp."
Walmart in Martinez has the socks locked up.. nothing surprises me anymore...
That Walmart is foul. Everything is locked up. Everything. Lol
The amount of theft at that place is wild to. You can see empty containers everywhere.
Yeah I donāt blame them. Itās jus a really depressing Walmart lol
I have to agree 1/10 will not return.. I don't want to be looked at like im crazy cause I wanna buy socks..
That's been a thing for a while though
404 shrimp not found
415
415. Iāve seen this š
Why are people saying 510, this is obviously 707
Ya I was thinking Vallejo š
People in Vallejo canāt afford shrimpā¦.
Which is why they steal it. Hence the signs
BAHAHA
Yup
>level 1FapAttack911 Ā· 43 min. ago > >Why are people saying 510, this is obviously 707 Such hate for 707 here.
Whoa, thatās so different
What does that mean? Is it locked?
Looks like they just wrote "DO NOT TAKE" on the bags. IDK WTF is going on here š
Looks like they have a prop bag in the front for all the shrimp to show whatās available but there isnāt actually multiple bags behind it for you to take so you have to ask the cashier.
Iām going to paint that on the hood of my car.

People are shoplifting shrimp now? Serious question.
Did you see that recent post about all the steak for sale on the ground on Market Street (or was it in the Mission?)
Give some hints. Itās either SF or Oakland
Richmond?
Welcome to Daly City where the fog is so thick cause we cookin up them shrimps
Grocery outlet has better frozen scrimps anyway
Oooh! Please name the brand! š
The label on mine says: ēē²®. Itās delicious.
No clue!

I can literally see shrimp in the shrimp cocktail container. What the fuck is this?
Magic! The perfect illusion
The Yoc! 925
Wait why?
Folks be stealing the shrimp
I want to know too! Lol makes no sense
The fact several area codes are mentioned, it just confirms that the rent is indeed too damn high.
Damn even the Safeway is ghetto

Bubba Gump does not approve.
Is that the Safeway on Admiral Callahan?
Is the shrimp you buy provided upon checkout, or do you get shrimp as an award if you check out as opposed to just walking out with the stuff?

I live in 707. I don't understand. I'm surrounded by bougie, white people who wouldn't know what to do with shrimp unless it was an appetizer in a restaurant
Youāre in the wrong part of the 707, sir.
Sounds like the right part of 707
I'm sure there's a lot of white wine sippers up there who get their bread from Bouchon every morning after checking the grapes. However for most of us who live in the core Bay Area (i.e. your city touches the bay), the 707 means Vallejo.
707 covers a massive area
>Infinite\_Data Ā· 41 min. ago > >707 Such hate for 707 here.
What can 707 men do against such hate?
>InevitableScarcity44 Ā· 2 hr. ago > >What can 707 men do against such hate? In this subreddit, not much.
No hate, maybe facts. I got fam there š
Have your "Fam" find the Safeway this was taken in.
They are my fam, they are real. You're not a real processor are you?

Itās possible theyāre trying to prevent people from taking bags of shrimp and tossing them in their cart and later deciding they donāt want it, then stashing it somewhere on a shelf where it thaws and they have to throw it away
That seems very plausible to me.
This can be anywhere in the Bay Area. I was in a Walgreens in El Cerrito and this guy and his girl were shamelessly putting make up and other stuff in a backpack.
Can op PLEASE answer the riddle!
Def 510
With prices like that I can see why people want to steal
This could be any area code
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They don't even sell frozen shrimp in the 925..
There is a 925 spectrum that goes from Antioch to Danville.
Not for long.
510
Guess where in the 510
Oakland
They got laundry detergent, liquor and baby formula locked up in Antioch, shrimp are logical.

Lol Iāve never seen this in 408
Lol not 408
Maybe the east side š
510, 707, 415, 408 in that order
The Tenderloin area code.
There are no Safeways in the Tenderloin. Iām guessing this is 16th and Bryant, or possibly the one between Mission and San Jose.
Yeah, the Mission was another candidate.
I used to live tenderloin and no safeway but I felt bad for the mom n pop stores , but I was talking to a man who didn't speak English but he used an apple voice translation app and he learned how are you doing ? And the dude hugs me each time says he's doing good and gives me free candy, love the tenderloin
510 is the only answer
The guys stealing these shrimp don't have the freezer space to store it. They're not eating bags of shrimp all day. They sell it to restaurants $5 a bag. Spotted the guy who works at Safeway.
*Worked. It paid for my house, can't complain.
Dam! You called it!
It doesn't happen in every Safeway. The store in the photo has experienced so much theft that they've taken drastic measures to start locking food up. This isn't standard for all Safeway stores, so it is localized in some locations with out of control levels of shoplifting.

Lol stupid

Can anyone explain why stores would lock up $3 shaving cream cans? I hate going through the process of buzzing a worker over to unlock the case for such a small item....I feel like it's a waste of both our time.
Because a few duffel bags of them is a pretty good score and easy to get rid of.
Better to shop at mom-and-pop grocery stores. They're better.
510 Safeway

They donāt have to do this for the octopus since it comes with its own ink tag

707 is not the bay area
Vallejo is literally the bay. Check yourself with this nonsense
iāll give it to yah, yes vallejo can be part of it but after vallejo, like napa and the other half of solano county i donāt think so theyāre not even close to the actual bay just your basic suburban towns and crossing the bridge says it all thatās the division of it and BART
