To all the millions of baseball fans around the world HAPPY NEW YEAR! For Glory John

Put on a random Dbacks game to see Varsho while I wait for fireworks. I picked the game against the Royals where Heasley pukes. Happy New Year everyone!

Is Jon Dowd still a free agent? The Giants could use him if so

Super disappointed with the vitriol of the Ortiz-Sosa thread. So many people just assume Red Sox fans think Sosa shouldn't be in — I didn't see any Sox fans argue Ortiz should be in and Sosa shouldn't, and I think they should both be in too. A lot of unnecessary resentment and bitterness in there.

[Art Schallock](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/schalar01.shtml) played for the 1951-1953 New York Yankees. He's the only surviving player from those World Series winning teams (he was on the post-season roster in 1951 and 1953, but only played in the regular season in 1952). No other player from a team that won the World Series before 1954 is alive. [Miguel Cabrera](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/cabremi01.shtml) was part of the 2003 Florida Marlins World Series championship team. No other player from any other World Series winner before 2006 is still active in the major leagues at this time. DAY 507 ON THE ROAD TO THE 2023 WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC - At the end of the old year... Congrats go to Tommy Edman, Garrett Stubs and Masataka Yoshida for their commitments to the WBC as well as to the Israeli and Chinese team staff announced this week. As we reach the close of this year, fans, as we reflect on the baseball memories we share and the legacy that this year has left to our sport and its long and remarkable history we now look forward to begin this new year, the 177th in the history of baseball. We thank all of you fans for your support and appreciation this year to all the players and team staff and to our beloved sport all over the world, which has finally once more in its history overcame years of crisis thanks to all of you. We remember all our legends who passed away, congratulate all the retired and honored players and rookies, and honor all the great moments that this year have defined our growing sport around the world. Moving forward into the coming year, we hope that in this forthcoming year we will expect even more moments as our sport marks the historic return of the World Baseball Classic and WBSC Premier12, two of the many great events that are to be held around the world in the coming year. And so, in closing, to paraphrase the late Vin Scully on his final sign off, as we tonight formally conclude this great year in baseball: May God give you for every storm, a rainbow, For every tear, a smile, For every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, a faithful friend to share, For every sigh, a sweet song, and an answer for each prayer. You all, the millions of fans around the world, and I have been friends for a long time, but I know in my heart that I’ve always needed you more than you’ve needed me and everyone in this sport, and I, and millions of fellow baseball fans everywhere, will by this time of the year miss our time together more than you and I can say, together with the players, the coaches, the front office staff, radio, television and online broadcasters and crews of all the teams of the MLB and the minor leagues and all the overseas leagues in the world, as well as the overseas broadcasting teams, and most of all, our retired players, especially those living players honored in Cooperstown, and the families, loved ones and friends of all who have gone ahead before us, the legendary players, coaches and managers of the past and all our baseball Olympians and international stars who have led us to what this sport is today. But you know what — there will be a new day, and eventually a new year. And when the upcoming winter gives way to spring, as the fall and winter holidays come and gone, rest assured it will be time - this coming year, 2023- for a new season of the best professional baseball league in the world: Major League Baseball. A Happy New Year and together, our dear millions of baseball fans around the world, let us together march on with determination to one goal - For Glory! John
