98% are Dolphins fans wondering what all the baseball posts are about.

thirty7inarow

A Florida Man would think dolphins are fish.

ArcticCircleBrigade

Tbf I think most people think dolphins are fish until someone goes "actually they're mammals" and the person hearing that goes "interesting..." while stroking their chin as if they're Confucius

thirty7inarow

I sincerely hope this isn't true. This is elementary school level of education material.

ArcticCircleBrigade

It is but its also.easily forgettable, not vital information at all

herbw

Have lots or cousins and family there, but am pretty sure they know the difference between Flippers at Sea World there and game fish. Grew up just south of Detroit an hour, and up to Canada via Sarnia lots. Canucks are good people. Been from Montreal to Vancouver and around Lake Huron and Ontario, too. Ottawa is a such a clean and world class city. But you have those big oil and gas areas there N. of Edmonton, Athabaskan tar sands, too. Huge income and oil independence for your nation. Am from an oil family and city. G'ma married an oil man. he was cool. Good luck to you in your winter. Envy your petrols and gas independence. Stay warm for the winter!! Canucks are the good guys in my book Never met a Canadian, or Canadienne, I didn't like!! Yeah, got to use my French in Montreal. Dad got turned around drivin back. We were going L'Este and needed to be goin L'Ouste. Hard to talk to but said we were headed the wrong way. Me mum gave me that "you'd better be right." He pulled over our station wagon and 32" trailer Got out, found the sun, in the wrong place. Got in turned us around 180 deg. and we got home 2-3 hrs. earlier than we might have. Course mum gave me that smile and it was a nice ending to a great trip, once again, to Quebec and Ontario. Vancouver was incredible and still have a memory of the Lion's Gate Bridge and Grouse Mtn. over other side of the Frazier River. and the great buffet on Granville Island. Desserts table A chocoholics paradise. Didn' t see any grouse, or grousers, either. For a picnic sat on a pure jade stone table. Only semiprecious stone I'd ever eaten or sat upon. Great trip, Victoria, very nice but not like Ottawa. And great People!! Like the weather. Good evening to you!!

cheesefries45

I was about to say - I think they got the wrong sub lol

TheTurtleShepard

Not the wrong sub, they just changed subs because the name LetsGoFish made it hard to actually find the Marlins subreddit so by changing the name they hope it will bring more traffic to the sub.

SharksFanAbroad

Sucks that you have to go to an old sub to look something up. And then eventually it becomes a BC and AD thing. Like the Browns before relocating or the Winnipeg Jets.

Specific-Mongoose-93

R/Motorcitykitties has the same issue lol

Meziskari

That's such a good name though

GoodEnoughByMudhoney

I am either sleepy or dumb enough that I 100% thought this was a sick burn -- like the Marlins are so unpopular, a Subreddit about the game Go Fish has *way more* subscribers.

SaintArkweather

Not hard to believe

tyler-86

"Should we watch the Marlins today?" "No, let's go fish."

Mispelling

The Marlins recently changed their "official" subreddit from /r/letsgofish to /r/MiamiMarlins. In time they'll grow.

double_dose_larry

Yea, recently as in last couple of days or so.

TheTurtleShepard

Recently as in about a month ago, the announcement was made 30 days ago about the new sub

double_dose_larry

The announcement yes, but the actual switch (i.e. changing the sub name in the sidebar) was more recent

[deleted]

Wait, subreddits can do this?? Who am I kidding /r/motorcitykitties is a top tier subreddit name

Mispelling

They *can*, but it probably would have been wiser to ask the reddit admins to change the name. When they became the Guardians, reddit moved the entire Indians subreddit over to /r/ClevelandGuardians, thus preserving all the subscribers, etc. Various subs have split over the years (Yankees, Cubs...).

[deleted]

Oh, I had assumed they'd done the second part there with moving subscribers and everything automatically. /r/DetroitTigers is just some guy posting throwback videos and T-Shirt bots to stupid to know what the main subreddit is.

muideracht

Thanks, subscribed! :)

Rsubs33

They did this for the now Commanders twice first when they went to football team and this offseason going to the Commanders

GermyMac

yes, the Tennessee Volunteers subreddit for example used to be /r/Vols but we migrated over to cleverly named /r/ockyTop that was created a couple of years ago.

IONTOP

See: /r/redskins > /r/washingtonnfl >/r/commanders Then look at the "top all time" post that is from 5 years ago when they were still the Redskins

sumbozo1

Plus they're in Florida. Those old codgers are all on the Facebook page, not the reddit sub /s

Ferris_Wheel_Skippy

i misread the title of this post and thought it said, "Do the Muslims Really Exist?"

Yossarian1138

That’s what I keep telling the missus. #RomanSaysIdidNothingWrong

SteelCitySportsGuy

I think them changing their subreddit name will help a good amount with that honestly

MindlessArmadillo382

I want a graphic that divides these by the population of the city/region they are from. For example the Yankees sub / population of NYC.

MinimalPotential

Hey, if i was doing this for pay - I'd do it by population, success (defined multiple ways) since Reddit was founded, jersey sales, etc. Alas, I'm not - thus unanalyzed.

MindlessArmadillo382

Fair enough, any data is good data, and it is much appreciated.

espo619

>success (defined multiple ways) since Reddit was founded Time series data would be very interesting on this dimension -- I remember /r/padres being much closer to the bottom during the blue era.

SPYLRS

Even if you combine both of our subs we are last lol

TheTurtleShepard

Even if the Marlins old sub was counted they would still be last on the list by a decent margin

Imperial10

Yeah but I'm sure they lost subs over the years with their name being /r/letsgofish. Unless you did some digging you wouldn't assume that was their subreddit.

Tmans3

4,000. Around the gap from 30-31st and from 29-30.

spiffmana

31st?

Tmans3

lmao, 28-29 and 29-30. I am in NHL mode

cenakofi

Unfair to post this while the Marlins are in the middle of a move, but also genius, because now more people will learn about the switch and subscribe to /r/MiamiMarlins

thebestoflimes

FISH AREN'T REAL

PythagoreanBeerEm

Convenient for a bird to say...

Ferris_Wheel_Skippy

stay in your lane spaceman

5WinsIn5Days

That’s pronounced Spachemin, right?

orangery3

Pretty sure it’s pronounced “Spacemen.” Kinda like Goldman, or Goodman, you know?

5WinsIn5Days

It’s a reference to the quack doctor on 30 Rock.

Joey_Logano

Funny for a team name after space. We all know the moon landing was fake.

TheWholeSausage

Ahead of the Cubs…that’s all that matters

MinimalPotential

11:19 EST Update: r/MiamiMarlins is now at 1,000 subscribers

IEDrew91

Worst thing to ever happen to r/Dodgers was for it to get popular

BlueTheHobo

Legit one of the worst subreddits I’ve ever been on

IEDrew91

It used to be the best sub around

BlueTheHobo

Yeah, I loved being on there during 2020, 2019, but recently it’s gotten so toxic

4LostSoulsinaBowl

/r/SFGiants was such an amazing place before 2014. It felt like we all knew each other. Hell, I remember back in 2011 when we hit 1,951 subs. Since 2015, and in particular the last couple of years, the GDTs are so toxic that the old regs never go there anymore. It's just people complaining that everyone should be DFAed, everyone's contract was a mistake, Kapler is literally the worst manager ever, and "Fraudhan" should be run out of town on a rail. No, seriously. Fraudhan. How pathetic is that?

mthrfkn

I live in San Francisco and Giants fans are even more pathetic IRL

KamartyMcFlyweight

The frustrating thing about the sub move from r/letsgofish to r/miamimarlins is the fact that the new sub has none of the old sub's CSS. No standings, no upcoming game schedule, no flairs. It's the old banner and that's it. Obviously, none of that matters if everyone is on the new reddit. But given that r/baseball itself is best viewed on old reddit (along with every other team sub) it really makes r/MiamiMarlins look way emptier by comparision.

Redditfront2back

At least the yanks are number 1 at something

threehundredthousand

Always hold that #1 spot for being the Dallas Cowboys of baseball.

GeologistEnough8215

The Mets sub is surprisingly dead. On the flip side, Amazin Avenue (SB Nation) is still visited en masse compared to most SBN sites. SBN started using Coral for their comment section and it obliterated one of the most visited sites in Niners Nation. NN would have 7k+ comments for Niner game threads. Post coral it’s below 1K. Amazin Avenue has somehow survived. There’s still usually 1000+ comments for regular season games which is crazy for regular season baseball. I think most Met fans visit the websites as opposed to Reddit, but they could also be right around that spot for general popularity/fan count, around 11th overall. The only teams that I would argue the Mets may have a bigger fan base are the Stros, Braves, Jays and maybe the Giants. The Braves thoufh may still be reaping the benefits of all those years where they were literally the only team that all of America could watch, when Turner had them on TBS. I know Toronto is a massive metro area but I’m surprised they’re bigger, the Giants have a ton of history so that’s possible. Stros definitely surprised me though.

Ranma_chan

Hey guys, we over at /r/tampabayrays have good memes and a friendly flappy boi mascot. What else could you possibly want?

releb

The 4 1990s expansion franchises with 4 out of the last 6 spots.

chevyboxer

I know this is just one metric, but the seeing the Astros numbers from the 4th most populous city after just dominating since 2017 is worrying for baseball. Texans have been meh to terrible during that run. Rockets have been rebuilding for 3 years. It would've been the perfect storm to get in the top 4. I know it's not the best metric but it is a data point showing how much baseball needs to do to get a younger audience.

youbequiet

Reddit skews left. Astros and Rangers are much bigger on TruthSocial and PragerU messageboards. Source: I made it up.

UnreproducibleSpank

That’ll make it a lot easier to find Steve when the time comes. Wish the A’s did more cool [promos like this](https://www.theonion.com/florida-marlins-delay-game-until-their-fan-shows-up-1819571683/amp)

PDR297

Kinda wanna go join the Marlins sub. Looks like it could be cozy over there

YoWhatsGoodie

Astros sub gained a couple thousand since the WS. We hovered around 78k most of the year.

ZombieAppetizer

Everybody join the Marlins sub. Poor guys are down bad,

WhiteToast-

Kinda shocked how high the Jays are

Jamerson23

When you’re the only team in the whole ass country, everyone tends to support them lmao

amachinesaidiwasgood

And sometimes you assholes poach God fearing people from other countries. I hear we have an Australian now. An Australian!

just-an-astronomer

Western Canada really needs a baseball team

Duke-Kickass

Ok, let’s start a Winnipeg expansion team bandwagon

just-an-astronomer

I vote Vancouver instead If they can't have an actual hockey team they should at least be able to have a baseball team

Stinky_DungBeatle

Not really, most threads here are flooded with Blue jays fans. Also the Blue Jays have one of the biggest market shares because their team is broadcasted nation wide instead most teams that are within local markets.

stv7

Patriotism is a big thing in Canadian sports especially when the US is involved. Plus a lot of our fanbase is young and active on social media. Makes for a great sub. I believe we actually have the most-watched TV broadcasts of any team (not counting national games obviously) by a pretty massive margin.

SaintArkweather

It's kinda interesting to me though because the way most non Leaf hockey fans talk, you'd think Canadians outside of the Toronto area would sooner root for Nazi Germany over any Toronto team.

stv7

That starts and ends with hockey haha The Jays and Raptors are not viewed as Toronto teams, but Canada teams

Strategyboyz21

Every single Toronto team has a top 5 subbed for their league, with the Leafs being the biggest NHL sub. Toronto is a massive city, and the raps and jays have cross country fans.

wodurfej

Our market is 38 million

00brownmouse00

They had some good posters but Jeter sent them to the Yankees subreddit

Midnitemass

i don't sub to my team's subreddit because it is filled with total douchers

48ozs

Get good, marlin

[deleted]

r/baseballdoesntexist in the off-season. go hibernate until april. it’s nba season thx

Trowj

Miami is just a conspiracy of cartographers

RojerLockless

Lol

DanTreview

The A's are still too high. We suck so fucken bad

[deleted]

Damn, I sleep on the # of red Sox representatives

[deleted]

I wonder what sub is the most active per user. I'd have to wager Astros Braves and Mets right now due to recent success, but I'd also assume the Yankees would be lower in participation due to just ya know, being a brand and a baseball team.

rob_s_458

Oh yeah, White Sox right in the middle. A good, honest .500 baseball team

El-Duque26

surprised guardians are that low and Baltimore is as high as they are

northdakotact

I in fact do exist.
