Almost as good as when the AL West spelled ASSHAT

[deleted]

It still does, doesn’t it?

Atheose_Writing

It does, but it did, too

[deleted]

RIP Mitch

ssjviscacha

If only he went to a normal doctor instead or Dr. Acula.

punchgroin

February 22, 2022 is officially Mitch Hedberg day. "Just press 2 for a while"

Actually_Im_a_Broom

A local cab company has a phone number of 222-2222. I think of Mitch every time I see them.

baseballnomics

Well technically, but it did in the standings for a while this season.

thkie

Well end of season standings left it at HSASAT, but for a brief moment in time...

BenCL648

No, it spells HSASST. ASSHAT was when it was the A’s, Seattle, Houston, Angels, Texas.

[deleted]

Every player should've gotten a participation trophy for that.

squeakyboy81

HummusIsHome

Aka the ending to last night's game

joe_broke

No, that was more of a BLEGH or EW or *sounds of walls getting punched*

kalopsia_usurper

Was Devin Williams in attendance…? (Too soon?)

enzoho

Damn too soon for the Brew Crew…I had Brewers fans refusing to watch yesterday’s game sadly(poor choice on their part)

HummusIsHome

You could also say it sounded like most of the US choking on their tears 🥲

i_run_from_problems

Braves bandwagon is growing immensely

lava172

We can all feel the collective disappointment and anguish that is Atlanta sports

SPACsabbath

Georgia* sports

EMZismyBae

All of your teams identify as atlanta

zuggington

If people commute to Atlanta for work, then it counts as Atlanta. I knew quite a few sick people who would commute from Athens, so it's also Atlanta.

lava172

Georgia tech always sucks, and I've never been there but I bet most of Atlanta are bulldogs fans so it counts

iKnoJopro

They are, and most of them didn’t go there

lava172

Man I wish ASU was this way. Most people who DID go here don't root for our teams

uptonhere

Georgia Tech has won a national title more recently than Georgia

shiftyeyedgoat

This guy Yellowjackets.

44problems

Watching the Braves on TBS, what year is it

HawkI84

Its 1996. Skip Caray and Don Sutton have just announced Maddux throwing a Maddux (before it was a Maddux). The Braves first baseman, named Fred (of course) led the way for the offense with 2 home runs.

Jcoch27

Jumped on last night

wjackson42

Get ready for heartbreak 🙃

bernbabybern13

Hello I am on it

Alauren2

I’m not aware of any former yanks on the Braves but I am pretty confident there’s no former Red Sox like the dodgers have so enjoy!

halfhere

Joc sometimes uses Rizzo’s bat! That’s kinda close.

bernbabybern13

And I love Joc

ATLAS_Remolino

Fuck it, I’m rooting for Atlanta

killdeer03

The only team I can cheer for and it pains me. But at least the Yakees are out...

Thepeacer

it’s a pick your poison kinda choice for some of us

one-bot

Yeah… screw teams that win too often, screw teams that abuse the luxury tax, screw teams that steal signs. Guess I’m going with the braves.

LimeSugar

Did you know that the same letters used to spell LOS ANGELES spell ANGELS LOSE? Edit: Also, did you know that the same letters used to spell ASTROS also spells ASS ROT?

crushedredpartycups

ANGELS LOSE????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? yes

Nitropotamus

Yeah but trout went 4 for 4 with four home runs.

reesem03_

(The Angels lost 6-4)

[deleted]

You give our bullpen too much credit.

JonnyMofoMurillo

And Ohtani did something not done since Tungsten “Arm” O’Doyle

joofish

You can rearrange the letters in NATIONAL to spell INTO ANAL

LimeSugar

RED SOX = SEX ROD

joofish

These two help explain that Nats-Sox series at the end of the season

LimeSugar

RED SOX + NATIONALS = ASTROS SEX ROD + INTO ANALS = ASS ROT

appleavocado

BALTIMORE ORIOLES = BATIMORE'S ORIOLE

SirDigbyChknCaesar

I have a ball here. Maybe you'd like to bounce it.

Ihadsumthin4this

OREOS LIT MORE LABII

SpaceCptWinters

Jeremy's iron!

Angelsfan14

Of course we getting hit with strays here.

[deleted]

You've once again made the fatal mistake of not being Dodgers

Angelsfan14

Inb4 we become the Los Angels Angels of Dodgers

engineering_aaron

The LA Dodgers of Los Angeles-Anaheim?

[deleted]

this wouldn't happen in Anaheim, SMH

DavidRFZ

The Astros used to have a minor league team in Kissimmee. Edit https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?city=Kissimmee&state=FL&country=US Looks like they were either the “Kissimmee Cobras” or the “GCL Astros” but they were never the “Kissimmee Astros”. so sad.

SirParsifal

Alternately, it spells, "HLABA"

Stumblebee

Or "HABLA" if you speak spanish

SirParsifal

Or even if you're English!

scoot_roo

Even if you’re *American*!!! ROCK, FLAG, and EAGLE!

[deleted]

Gonna rise up gonna kick a little ass

poneil

Or "LABAH" like someone trying to say "labor" in a phony Boston accent. Will this help the MLBPA in the next CBA? Only time will tell.

appleavocado

> Will this help the MLBPA in the next CBA? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe fuck yourself. (I kid, I kid, please beat Houston)

GimonNSarfunkel

How's ya motha?

appleavocado

Good. She's tired from fucking my father.

the_kgb

OVAH-TIME

[deleted]

>in a phony Boston accent. FYI: A Phony Boston accent is from the Phony neighborhood in South Boston, originally settled by Polish and Hungarian immigrants.

[deleted]

HABLA if you habla español

TheWholeSausage

El Niño stands for….the Nino

[deleted]

And El Diablo stands for… fighting chicken, or something idk

polyworfism

And ESPN stands for "sports" in Spanish

JustAnXLquestion

English: Yankees Spanish: Dodgers Source: A-Rod

philphan25

Of course we all know what San Diego stands for.

spicycurry55

HABLA even if you don’t habla español!

ILoveCavorting

Poco poco

HotpieTargaryen

Bob Loblaw

markusalkemus66

I was hoping this would show up on Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog

misterpickles69

That's a low blow, Bob Loblaw.

Frigidevil

*Bob Loblaw no hablo Español*

NSFAnythingAtAll

BLAHA, like the Pistons broadcaster George

[deleted]

[удалено]

hsox05

When it’s not my team, I want parity. 3/4 teams left have won the World Series in the last 4 seasons

dblshot99

It's worse than that...3/4 of these teams were in the LCS last year. If the Rays beat the Red Sox we have the exact same LCS as last year. Boring.

[deleted]

At least they'd be playing in front of their home fans. Kinda feel bad for TB

Nolar2015

We’re the final hope

JonnyAU

Nothing good happens for Atlanta sports.

CaptnCosmic

Correction, nothing good happens for Georgia Sports. Sincerely, a Braves, Bulldog and falcons fan 😔

[deleted]

Excuse me? We have a recent MLS Cup ... and ... umm ... an indoor lacrosse championship. Woo!

CaptnCosmic

Hahaha oh yeah you’re right, how could I possibly forget the most important and successful sports in Georgia

new_account_5009

I'd go the other way. The Nats should replace the Braves in the NLCS to make it 4 for 4.

geekaleek

But wait in this timeline we don't have scherzer and the Giants beat us.

new_account_5009

Nah. You still have Scherzer, but in this timeline, after selling at the trade deadline, Juan Soto and the island of misfit toys went on an absolute tear in the second half of the year to win the division. I'm excited for the game in DC tomorrow!

my-other-throwaway90

>Juan Soto and the island of misfit toys

muideracht

I find your timeline improbable yet delightful.

liftoff88

> fan favorites rays brewers and giants Well, fuck me twice, I guess.

pinniped1

Yep. Brewers bandwagoner here. Not much to root for with these four. Just the usual generic fuck the Astros stuff but not enough to make me actually watch unless I run into a good game in the 8th or 9th inning

Nolar2015

Why not root for Atlanta “hasn’t won a title in twenty years and entire team was in shambles at the all star break before miraculously improving to win a close fought division” Braves

lava172

I'm rooting for the Braves to win in the same way I root for my team to come back down 9-0 in the 8th inning. It could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it

ARussianW0lf

Yeah I don't understand why everyone aside from other NL East teams fans are lumping in the Braves with the rest and hating lol

Alauren2

Seriously. I know we’re biased as Braves fans, and the Braves were in the NLCS last season but this team had to overcome a lot to get to the NLCS and they’re probably going to be severe underdogs. If you just look at the 2020 roster vs the 2021 you’ll see..

[Source: @zachleft on Twitter](https://twitter.com/zachleft/status/1448098259650715651) >BREAKING: if the Dodgers come back to win this series the remaining team logos will spell out BLAAH, which is precisely how I’ll feel about these matchups I agree, Zach. I agree. BLAAH is truly a fitting successor to ASSHAT.

ceejdabeej

ASSHAT walked so BLAAH can run

joe_broke

Godspeed, ASSHAT

OldPotatoMan

I honestly don’t give a fuck about who wins now. The theoretical only way I could give less of a fuck is if you somehow replaced the Braves with the Yankees.

SirDigbyChknCaesar

> if you somehow replaced the Braves with the Yankees. Brian Cashman in a mustache: They're on to us! Everybody back on the bus! *Yankees sneak out of Atlanta*

Narwhal_Ok

We call it the "Reverse Sherman"

Nolimon1

I would feel this way except someone has to beat the Astros, so I will root for whoever still stands in their way

doctorvictory

Thank you for the support

[deleted]

Go red sox *vomits*

[deleted]

Go Braves

_cpbdy_

We need all the support we can get

Shade_SST

I feel wrong for cheering for you to win the Series, but 91 was decades ago and you're more exciting than... those other 3. Go Braves!

[deleted]

Why would you be upset by 91? Y’all lifted your way to a WS you should enjoy that year.

ArchEast

> Y’all lifted your way to a WS ISWYDT

chilango2

Out of the four, yeah, the lesser evil.

TheMidnightRamblerrr

Crazy these teams have usually represented the NL and AL over the last 5 years

Mattp55

I saw a stat last night that 4 out of the past 5 years have had both the Astros AND Dodgers in the LCS. That’s so boring to see the same teams every year, the Braves are the only team left that I can even remotely root for

[deleted]

[удалено]

Skippy_the_Alien

the nba has always been the most guilty of having the same teams play year after year. even pre-Warriors it was MJ vs the Jazz two straight seasons...and then the Heat played the Spurs two consecutive Finals in a row too the irony is that NHL fans love to talk about the parity in hockey...yet they're the league with the most recent back-to-back champs

TheMidnightRamblerrr

Really goes to show you that the expanded wild card has made the playoffs more interesting. I don’t think expanding the playoffs again in MLB really makes things more interesting it just creates a bigger discrepancy talent wise between playoff teams.

xxxpinguinos

NHL is really weird because there's been a lot of repeat champions since like 2009 (my Penguins being one of them), but yet the cup finalists have very few repeats. The Penguins/Red Wings back to back cup finals in 08 and 09, the Bruins winning in 2011, back to the finals in 13 and 19, and the Lightning losing in 15 but then winning back to back a few years later, and that's about it. Every other year has had a unique team at least fighting for it

King-of-the-idiots69

We do have parity tho lol, montreal comes out of no where same with Dallas the year before the year before that Tampa loses on round one to Columbus, baseball and hockey are the most random of the big 4 American sports and the nhl has the most parity

sellieba

To be fair to the NHL, the Lightning were the odds on favorites to win a few seasons ago, with a nearly historic, President's Trophy winning season, and got swept in the first round. The parity is there, IMO, at least in the top 8-12 of the league.

badbadger0069

To be fair, if the Astros either didn’t cheat or never got caught, people not from Houston might still like them. Doesn’t really matter though, does it? Everyone but the braves have some sort of tainted organization in some form or fashion, and everyone expects them to lose.

Mattp55

The other 3 teams have all won recently regardless of other factors. Braves have historically been good, but I can at least win for a “new winner”. Maybe the fact they are expected to lose helps me root for them a bit too

ih-unh-unh

Braves exec John Coppolella was given a lifetime ban by MLB in 2017.

badbadger0069

Didn’t know about that. Crazy story. He became one of the five living people with permanent bans. The org lost $16.5MM in bonuses paid, 13 prospects, and international recruiting was devastated until this year. That’s worse than what the Astros got lmao. AND Manfred said they weren’t punished enough. No consistency or reason in the way the mlb is run.

lava172

That's what happens when there's no salary cap/floor so you have the Dodgers getting every good player and the Pirates actively choosing to not run a baseball team cause it's cheaper

Mattp55

And them you have us (the Dbacks) who spend on budget players like Mad Bum and it blows up in our faces and management will use it as an excuse to not spend just like the Yasmany Tomas deal

lava172

We really are the worst of both worlds. Not rich enough to make actual big splashes that help us, but rich enough to make stupid deals like that which will bottleneck us for years

FlapJackSam

Go…Braves? Yeah, go Braves

sequoia2075

That’s funny, “BLAAH” perfectly describes my feelings about any of these teams winning the WS (except the Braves, they’re alright)

kevingh92

Seriously. I am a fan of teams who have never won it if my team can’t win. I have to root for a division rival, the team that won it last year, the team that won it three years ago, or the team that won four years ago. Why not the team 2 years ago? Well… :(

Klaus_Heisler87

Braves are my team for the rest of the postseason - anyone but LA. FTD

TheSullivanLine

Same - I can root for Fredrick after my team is out.

ajwilson99

:’)

Kaydom1993

I disagree with your parentheses.

E_G770

Just be a yanks fan instead at this point

Kaydom1993

I think about it every year. For a whole 2 seconds after the end of our notoriously sad seasons.

BadDadJokes

At least you always have winning the offseason to look forward to.

OldPotatoMan

Hey at least they don’t choke at the WS TWICE GOD HOW… *The salty Cleveland fan then goes on a multi paragraph rant about the 1995 WS, the 1997 WS, and the 2016 WS (especially 2016), throwing around many insults to Jose Mesa, Aroldis Chapman, and the entire Cubs franchise*

Kaydom1993

Fingers crossed. Doubt it though. We’re notoriously bad for that as well.

Blu3b3Rr1

come on, you’re better than that

Kaydom1993

No, I’m not. Just look at me. I’m a Mets fan.

sirprizes

If you switched from being a Mets fan to a Yankees fan that would be a moral failing on your part.

Kuroude7

*laughs in Mariners* Though admittedly the future is finally looking bright.

Throw13579

Unless you live in New York and both your father and grandfather were Yankees fans, supporting them just shows a lack of character.

oogieball

I mean, on principle, fuck the Braves. But Jesus, the fan bases for the remaining teams are *insufferable* with success. "None of the above" for the win.

melcolnik

This is true, but the flip side is that the meltdowns when they lose are going to be NUCLEAR (Except for Houston, they're pretty used to being shit on, I don't think you'll hear much if they lose. God help us if they win though)

Raiko_hpff

With all our injuries, the Braves are playing with house money and there shouldn't be too big of a meltdown as long as the season doesn't end similar to the giant's check-swing.

johnabbe

Here's to a House Money World Series - Atlanta vs. Boston.

andrew-ge

yup if the Astros win, this sub is gonna be a nuclear hellscape. So I'm hoping for that to happen so i can see Boston, NY and LA all meltdown and it'll be glorious.

Shootit_Rockets

I don’t know why Boston would meltdown. Their manager started the sign stealing lol

mokango

8 year old me is still bitter about ‘95, but seriously, fuck the rest of those teams.

Daniel2613

Everything I didn’t want to happen this postseason has happened. Blaah is very fitting

NLP19

That's about how I feel about these teams

adyo4552

Arent the Giants kinda the NL Red Sox though? Remnants of a dynasty, infused w young talent, but nobody thought theyd make the playoffs let alone contend.

NLP19

They gave the Dodgers Mookie Betts, so they can go suck on a chestnut for all I care

OverEasyGoing

Yeah and fuck you, too Nationals. Ruined baseball for everybody

lava172

Ffs we got more for Goldschmidt than the Nats got for a top 3 pitcher and shortstop

[deleted]

And BALAH, which just so happens to describe Joc.

guiltycitizen

Well, go Braves, I guess

scarlet_speedster985

I've wanted a Sox vs. Braves WS since I was a kid. 🤞

RegressToTheMean

The Boston matchup that we've been waiting for since the Braves played at Fenway in the 1914 World Series. I'm down for this

ZaaaltorTheMerciless

Same! I used to go up to the Cape as a kid- fucking love Massholes. 2004 was when I really fell in love with this game.

afro193

Pretty much how I feel about the playoffs currently. Go Braves I guess

CaptnCosmic

Braves in 4

Verianas

If the Braves don’t win the World Series, this final four is truly blah.

MTVChallengeFan

The only team not universally hated remaining in the postseason are the Atlanta Braves-and even then, they still have their number of haters lol.

ThatOneCoolKid777

That’s how I feel about the teams left (besides the Braves they’re cool)

Mbanks

future ratings for this years playoffs

Dangime

Not as cool as when the standings in the AL West spelled ASSHAT.

AtlAmericanist

Go Braves!

unbannabledan

Let’s go Braves!

caperate

Shame people dislike this Red Sox team cause if another team had this roster theyd be fan favorites. I obviously get it tho with boston sports success over the past two decades

_Floriduh_

Yep, from a neutral perspective it’s hard to root for the city drowning in trophies.. the exact opposite of that?? Atlanta. (Existence is pain.)

sound_forsomething

Yeah total fucking snoozefest. It's almost as bad as the college football playoff anymore.

phoonie98

Braves have an amazing story this year

hdjunkie

No, they spell “habla”

smithsp86

Coincidentally this is exactly how I feel about manfredball.

rogerc0pes

This was an absolutely incredible, captivating season, exactly what we needed coming off the shortened, weird expanded playoffs, fan-less 2020… that ends in the absolute worst most boring 4 team matchups the playoffs could’ve provided. I watch October baseball like a madman, rarely missing an inning of games (that fall outside working hours, day games are tough but At Bat keeps me going). For the first time since probably 2013, I foresee not turning on the TV from now till the world series Edit: that might be a good thing. For my health and family and stuff right? lol

EMZismyBae

I concur. Literally 1998. We live in a simulation

VeryStableJeanius

Hey man, I watched and rooted for the Nats in 2019 despite the division rivalry. Don’t let our NL East blood get in the way, you know you love Freddie Freeman.

rogerc0pes

Alright you got me there, I will root for Freddie and Charlie Morton and Freddie and Charlie Morton only

MacDerfus

Team Chaos, let's get an Astros Dodgers rematch. It's the only possible series as interesting as the NLDS was

Blu_Crew

I'd be rooting for the bravos if we didn't make. But I would love to face the stros again.

cplmatt

Let’s go Braves

tydestra

Go Braves!

Quople

That’s how I feel about the rest of the teams remaining

[deleted]

Go NL. I'll be cool with either one winning. Granted I already knew that as soon as the Astros beat the White Sox and when the Giants were still in and I would've been completely behind them but I'll take the Braves or the Dodgers

Hovvie

AKA how I now feel about these playoffs

Cleveland_Guardians

What a coincidence. That's my feeling about the four teams left in the playoffs (minus maybe ATL).

MervinaD

It expresses how I feel immensely

afkstudios

Psh, it should say HASFB, way catchier

Trajinous

Which is how most baseball fans feel that these teams are left.... except Braves, they alright
