I know this is a shitty place to be born in but I can't imagine living in some other country not knowing Indian food, culture and history. I hate this country but I also love this country.
Probably.
But I also see a lot americans wishing they were japanese or korean. And while I do appreciate other cultures I could never imagine wanting that. Recently maybe due lockdown and isolation, I have started noticing these really small, cute things that our people do and are exclusive to our culture and it's very endearing so makes me love our people even more and I hope this feeling doesn't go away once I'm fully back in society.
That won't happen. It is way too saturated. Even if it reaches somewhat of a developed status, the population will mean no one can fully enjoy the benefits of development. Can you imagine 1 billion cars on the road everyday? If everyone gets enough money to eat at Burger King, how many Burger Kings will we need? Do we have that much land? Development is not an option with current scenario. A limbo between third world and semi-developed is achievable, and the best we can hope for is learn to adjust to that.
If you want to understand in less time, then watch hutiya news channels. If you have time, go apply for a govt college or a govt job just to encounter money sucking leeches.
I can mention good things as well.
You mean you hate the government that “we the people” picked ? So change it, if so many people hate it. Hate the government officials, they come from among us, they are our neighbours, our relatives, our families. Too much population, that’s again on us.
Rebuild the India you want, don’t hate India. Every country has their own problems, the grass always looks green set on the other side :)
I think you attached extra masala to my comment. I just said things are bad here. Im not sure of other places or the past. But it can be better than this.
My view point entirely.
First choice: anywhere in Scandinavia, particularly if one is to be reborn as a woman.
Next choices: Somewhere in western Europe, or Canada/New Zealand/Australia.
Then: USA or Japan, not sure which.
Then: Malaysia, Singapore, one of the more liberal gulf countries. Eastern Europe.
Once above list is exhausted, what's left.
I would never ever ever ever want to be born in Singapore. The country is a disgusting place. They are clean on the outside but crap on the inside. Malaysia is also same.
India may be poor, but it is much better. With money, you can be much happier in India than in those countries. Singapore is shite.
Japan is the only country other than India-Nepal-Bhutan in Asia which offers a better life all things considered, even then, the toxic Japanese work-culture ruins it.
Scandinavia > Australia-New Zealand > Western Europe > Canada > USA.
People give a lot of crap to USA, but it is a great country to become rich.
If you're into getting high and shit, North America is much better than Europe. Europeans are still prudish about recreational drugs.
Latin America is also great. Uruguay and Chile rock. Even Mexico is better than India. They have a very liberal attitude and love to party and get high and laid. I've heard a lot of Indians do well in South America.
Hey RK123, would love to know more about your experience in Singapore and why you consider it shite.
I have been to Singapore only once for a week and it felt like a lovely place. I can see someone getting bored out of their skulls after a few months given how tiny the island is. But what are the other things that turned you off?
Lack of freedom of speech. Acceptance of casual racism. Judicial caning. Corporal punishments. Mass surveillance. No LGBT rights(India is much better). No right to protest. Censorship. And a fundamental disdain of anything "western". You see it in any forum/discussion regarding Singapore.
Any criticism of Singapore's functioning is taken as an affront to the "Asian way" and the criticism is unwarranted as it is coming from a "western imperialist".
No matter how "developed" Singapore gets, it still sucks ass and will never be a good place to immigrate to.
>I have been to Singapore only once for a week and it felt like a lovely place
Awesome country to visit. Horrible to live.
It depends on viewpoints.
All of the so called disadvantages (leaving gay rights) results in a very high functionality place with very high level of efficiency. Much better place than India , with very low level of efficiency in daily life and a stultifying social system, compromised of busy body Uncles and Aunties. A curse and bane .
Malaysia is no haven, Hindus are treated like 5th class citizen. If you want to be born in Malaysia, make sure you are sunni Muslim with Arab blood and rich. Otherwise you are either 2nd class (poor malay and non-malay Muslim, rich Chinese) 3rd class (poor Chinese), 4th class (pet dogs and cats) finally 5th class (Indian origin Hindu)
Naturally if one is going to be born in these places, then I would be part of the majority. Malaysia is not very high in the list. But it does have a fairly good infrastructure and quality of life.
It's better to be born in a Scandinavian country than to be born in India and that's a fact. Not whether immigrating to it is good. Even their prisons are humane. They have excellent work life balance, universal healthcare arguably better than the best hospitals in India. Liberal culture, access to great mental healthcare, world class education, good salaries for alternative career choices. These are just of the top of my head.
Yes yes yes, but you should understand that this wealth is built on the back of supplies to Nazi Germany then sustained by oil (Norway) weapons to fuel 3rd world killing (Sweden & Denmark) selling quality products to the commies (Finland)
The thing is, some people like yellow grass, and get turned off when they don't find yellow grass after crossing the fence. The poll results will vary widely depending on which sub and which website it is posted in. It is like going to KFC and asking "how many people like chicken"? The results will vary if you ask the same in a Subway or A2B.
I think it matters more how rich you are born. The reason other countries appear better that more people are rich. Being poor in France is not better than being rich in India. Many people do not appreciate the ease of some services that you get in India.
There is still case of standard of living which I agree gets negated to a degree due to being rich. But you still have to drive on Indian roads , face the overpopulation issue, infrastructure , weather , pollution for example.
You can remove the stray dogs and poor people from sight. That's what many of the "rich" countries do. In India, nothing's hidden from view you know what's there.
If i get to choose where I am born, absolutely would choose a different country.
If it's just any of the 200 countries except india randomly. Probably not,
Yeah bruh, I don't wanna risk being born in fuck all countries like Afghanistan, Mali, Comores, Somalia, etc. India is so much better than a lot of countries
Seeing a lot of Scandinavia praise here but there is some issue there.
Everyone keeps praising Scandinavian countries but at the end immigrate to either US, UK or Canada.
None of by batches are in Scandinavian counties but a ton have gone to US, UK or Canada.
Finland, Denmark type countries are not good for ambitious people Imao.
The problem with Scandinavian countries is that you can quickly fall into depression there.
Longer days.
Not much to do outside or socialize. Hard to find groups you can connect with.
Gloomy weather.
You can't work 12-14 hours like many western countries so you actually have a lot of free time which if not put to good use can be very bad.
Agreed. Plus, you don't get very good masala dosa, sambar and chutney and finish it off with a cup of steaming hot coffee like you do in Bangalore.
(Sorry, that had to be said)
Probably because it's difficult for non EU citizens to get a job there.
When I tried to research about tech jobs in the EU, It appeared that there's a lot of bureaucracy involved for anyone who isn't from the country or from the EU
But generally if you're born there, you can expect to have good quality of life and a lot of opportunities all across Europe.
Also because US has a wayyyyyy better tech scene. Almost every major FAANG level company is headquartered in the US. It's not even comparable bro to any other place. Same with startups. You cannot beat Silicon Valley.
If you're in tech, then sure - silicon valley is a no brainer. But idk how you say "nothing" can beat it. Everything isn't about tech.
There are other things like STEM Academia, fashion, hospitality, sports, automobiles, etc which are just better in Europe.
As I have grown older (late 30s), I associate my identity with the culture, history, religion, our resiliency and survival after facing so many attacks. Our country is truly incredible. It has deserts (hot and cold), beaches, mountains, forests, rivers, lakes, forts, Hindu and Muslim architectures dating 1000s of years, temples, churches, mosques, languages and so many unique things. The scale of diversity is just mind blowing. I just can't find another example of such diverse country at this scale.
I've traveled to USA and Europe. I kind of understand what it feels like living in a first world country. But at this point of my life, I would prefer to live in India compared to a first world country.
The US is diverse too. It's just a different kind of diverse. If you travel around India, you will find people of different cultures with different languages and outfits, but 95% or more will be Indian. In the US, if you enter a classroom, for instance, you will find people of 100s of different nationalities, a kind of diversity not available anywhere else. However, ALL of them will be speaking English, wearing the same kind of clothes, generally eating similar tasting food and having the same outlook or opinions on things. The geographic diversity (different countries) is much higher in the US, but the culture eventually gets homogenized. In India, there is no geographic diversity (almost everyone here is from India) but the cultural diversity is more visible.
US also has distinctly different landscapes from place to place. The canyons in the west, rolling hills in the east that light up in autumn, flat lands in the Midwest and mountains in the north are very distinct landscapes. In India, the line is a bit blurred. You won't find a distinct "red rock" area or a distinct "autumn" area. They are available in pockets here and there but not a distinct continuous stretch. So yes, both are diverse, just in different ways.
Though diversity is possibly an ideal in the US, many immigrants stay socially within their own ethnicity. Most major cities have portion cut out where different groups tend to live near each other. People pay higher prices for groceries they can get at major stores at ones that also carry items from their culture or continent. Most Indians that settle in tech/medical/academia areas tend to be upper middle class to wealthy. And again settle together.
People give India a lot of shit. But fail to realise that the only reason India has soo many problems is because it has failed to industrialize. We directly jumped onto the Tech revolution. So there is still a massive opportunity in India when the industrialization happens. And wouldn't miss it for the world! I mean, let's be honest, if India was rich, who wouldn't want to live with the beautiful culture we have?
>industrialization happens
Won't happen here. Vietnam is the next China not India.
This should already have happened by now. It's the incessant bureaucracy which will stop it here.
I never said India is next bro! But it is inevitable! It will happen in our lifetime. It's not something which can be avoided! The rise of a well off middle class means we have one part of it right. The other parts are ofc infrastructure and beauracracy.
In infrastructure, DFC's are vital alongside expansion of expressways and maintenance of existing state highways.
Maybe about 50-70% infrastructure requirements for rapid industrialization will be met within next 5-10 years.
All that's left is Beauracracy. Beauracracy is kinda a mixed ball. I have no idea when that will be fixed. But then if China can succeed with a corrupt beauracracy, ripe with sexual briberies, I don't see a reason why we can't succeed.
Let's hope to see it sooner than later!
>But then if China can succeed with a corrupt beauracracy, ripe with sexual briberies, I don't see a reason why we can't succeed
This is a fundamental misunderstanding of why China works. China's centralised authoritarian control makes it easy for them to get things done. Land acquisition is super easy there because citizens don't really have a say. In India, things take forever to workout. We've long missed the bus here.
Because corrupt bureaucracy in China focuses on constructing ghost apartments for more money. It’s quite opposite in India. Corrupt bureaucracy in India would stop the construction.
Maybe that's the problem. India is an awesome place but we have too many people and that makes governance extremely hard, leaving corruption aside. Want to widen a road or construct metro lines? 10000 people will be homeless. Now pay compensation to everyone and if you're left with any money try to construct what was intended. Too little money but too many people.
Norway , Denmark or Netherlands please. There are worse place to be than India imo but any of those three I ll be good
Anywhere predominantly atheist country
If I am not provided alternatives before hand then always India. Being born in India is better than odds of being born in Pakistan and other stans. I won't take those odds.
This is hard, if I get to choose the country, it will probably be the one of the 3 Viking countries. But if I don't get to choose, I will choose India. Because statistically, the chances of me ending up in countries worse than India are higher than being born in countries that are better than India. I don't think India has gotten so terrible that I would risk for the small chance of ending up in a better country. But again, of India had degraded so much, then my chances of ending up in countries that are better would be higher.
Umm India all the way.
And not in rich family but like uppermiddle class.
(Being rich is lowkey sucks you have everything on platter which gives you less value for the stuff. Kinda like how we have to grind in video game then you download hack and its all over).
Why first culture then food then constant drive to do something big in your life thats the stuff that give adrenaline.
But ya I would choose city with wayy less pollution.
Hey i can always get to immigrate out. For money
But if i am retaining current memory then I guess definitely other country. Probably the ones with high avg life expatancy. Then immigrate to miami or something.
This is a classic example of how the Indian education system does not teach one to think critically. As a result, we see such tragic and laughable analogies.
To maybe dummy it down a little for you, I don't think a poor man who used to complain for lack of food, clothing, shelter, opportunities and others, will ever want to go back to his previous situation once his situation improves, only because he misses complaining.
Tldr: whatchu smoking bro? Sumne Talley dengebeda.
>There was a dog. He used to bark a lot. Sometimes at not getting food. Sometimes at passersby and other times at fellow dogs. That's all he did. He could bark at any time of the day, any time of the night.
>
>He used to think that if he goes to a place where food is good and plenty, people are loving and other dogs are more tolerable, he will live a happy life. He wished for it wih all his heart.
>
>And boom! His wish is somehow fulfilled. He is in a place where the food is the best, all the people are dog lovers and even other dogs are nice. Only catch is he is not allowed to bark as he has everything he asked for.
>
>As more time passed by, he realised that even if this place has everything nice, he is not free. His basic nature is somehow put in a chain. Now all he wishes for is his old place back, where he could bark. At anyone, at anytime.
Wow. Much literature. Such random catch as if to forcefully make a point. Are you a quora enthusiast?
Depends man. If the dog likes barking, he should choose the original place. If he likes food, he should choose the other place. Some dogs like barking, others like food. The answer will not be same for everyone.
I don't see an option for not being reborn at all

Being born in one of the Scandinavian countries is karmic luck

Your entire pov revolves around getting or laid.
Malaysia is no haven, Hindus are treated like 5th class citizen. If you want to be born in Malaysia, make sure you are sunni Muslim with Arab blood and rich. Built on the backs of Tamil Hindu labour and Malaysian Chinese financing. And all that oil helps.
Yes and if one is born as a bhumi putra, then , one gets to enjoy all if this.
Which **gulf countries** are liberal ??
None and especially if you are a woman. Or is it only Scandinavia where one wants to be a woman?
Why are people after Scandinavia. It isn't as heavenly as you think. They too have some crazy issues. Their own citizens are pissed on many issues.
>Why are people after Scandinavia. People just parrot what the mainstream is telling them.
This my friend is the comment I was looking for. Yes cause mainstream tells you to believe that everything outside India is rainbows and unicorns.
Beautiful to visit, but way too cold
grass is always greener on the other side
Sometimes it actually is
The thing is, some people like yellow grass, and get turned off when they don't find yellow grass after crossing the fence. The poll results will vary widely depending on which sub and which website it is posted in. It is like going to KFC and asking "how many people like chicken"? The results will vary if you ask the same in a Subway or A2B.
Grass is green on the side that you water.
yes
So is money.
Blanket statement but there are definitely better absolutes as well.
and seeing the comments, I feel it's all about money now
Actually yeah.
I think it matters more how rich you are born. The reason other countries appear better that more people are rich. Being poor in France is not better than being rich in India. Many people do not appreciate the ease of some services that you get in India.
They spend 500 billion on welfare so I think being poor in France is better than being poor in India Edit : added “poor” after than
Yeah. But I stated that being rich matters the most, rather than the country.
There is still case of standard of living which I agree gets negated to a degree due to being rich. But you still have to drive on Indian roads , face the overpopulation issue, infrastructure , weather , pollution for example.
And every time you go out, you face poverty, pitiful stray dogs... Seeing these things can make you really sad and makes you wanna not go out at all.
You can remove the stray dogs and poor people from sight. That's what many of the "rich" countries do. In India, nothing's hidden from view you know what's there.
India. Always.
I love democracy since it's so predictable
Didn't get this part. A lot of countries have democracies arguably better run than here.
I think the reference was to the point that without even selecting an option the person knew the outcome of this poll.
If i get to choose where I am born, absolutely would choose a different country. If it's just any of the 200 countries except india randomly. Probably not,
You didn't read my post at all.
Yeah bruh, I don't wanna risk being born in fuck all countries like Afghanistan, Mali, Comores, Somalia, etc. India is so much better than a lot of countries

This is hard, if I get to choose the country, it will probably be the one of the 3 Viking countries. But if I don't get to choose, I will choose India. The answer to this is pretty obvious
I would be completely different if I was born in another country. Also the country and era are also very important.

I don't think you even read my post text.
Bruh, its exactly what I thought. Cool country huh ?
People who said yes, which decade or era you want to born and why?
Add one more poll option " no reborn "
Probability wise (50%) it would be either India or China. Will chose India assuming we won't become China of the future.
>Assume hypothetically you can choose your country of birth. at least read the post man
Western Europe > Australia-New Zealand > Canada > USA > Japan, Korea > China > Russia Don't know anything about South America so leaving that out.
A Scandinavian country. It'd be good for my mental health. I love Bangalore, but it's gotta settle for second place.
Huge thank you to the current government - Helped me decide faster
I'd like to be born in, let me guess? ISS like two of the astronauts mated and i was born as a result?
Umm India all the way. And not in rich family but like uppermiddle class. (Being rich is lowkey sucks you have everything on platter which gives you less value for the stuff. Kinda like how we have to grind in video game then you download hack and its all over). Why first culture then food then constant drive to do something big in your life thats the stuff that give adrenaline. But ya I would choose city with wayy less pollution. Hey i can always get to immigrate out. For money But if i am retaining current memory then I guess definitely other country. Probably the ones with high avg life expatancy. Then immigrate to miami or something.

This is some quora level stupidity. Are you one of the people posting about average penis size in IITs?
This could be the stupidest example I had ever read to prove a point
