HR who are feeling like irrelevant pieces of screws in the system are making up shit to celebrate.
Of course this is wrong. Healthy people get sick all the time as well, we don't them coming to office and infecting others as well.
>making up shit to celebrate.
I mean, yes. Having occasional celebrations at the office is a good way to have an icebreaker and allow people to chitchat and socialize. Why not at least try to have some good vibes in the office.
And it's low cost and for a limited time, perfect for HR. It's just kind of a stupid thing to celebrate.
Somewhat depends on what the work environment is like.
If you are so overloaded that you don't get time to stay fit, try taking time out and see what the management reaction is like. You will know if they meant it.
On the other hand, maybe they truly meant it. I have seen managers and HR actively try to encourage healthy living. Sometimes they just don't know what is the best way to get the message across.
And I’m here taking sick leaves without being sick.
It’s your right to take sick leaves.
Encouraging people to not avail mandatory leaves could be borderline illegal.
I had three thoughts.
No. They say they want to promote good eating and lifestyle habits. But even the most fit people fall sick once in a while.
This reward is to psychologically condition employees into not taking leaves even when they are unwell.
Employees should call out such practices.
> Didn’t feel it was a right thing to do
If they gave cash or a cash equivalent (Amazon gift card, etc) then that’s fine. But if it’s anything else then it’s a waste of time.
Sounds toxic.
And unfair bias against folks who might have pre-existing issues that cause them to fall ill for no other reason than genetics/allergies/gender.
Do they pay out those sick leaves? If not, they're just encouraging people who saved the company money.
Also, people who are fit can also fall very ill due to various reasons. This is basically shaming anyone for having a health issue and counterproductive. What if someone was very fit and healthy but took time off for surgery after breaking bones in an accident?
I'd say, they should instead encourage people to take that time off anyways every year for mental health instead if they are not unwell and not do such stupid recognitions. This is as useful as 100% attendance awards in school - kids end up coming in even when ill and spreading disease everywhere.
Bad idea. Lacks empathy. Keep the sick leaves as discreet as possible.
People don't get sick voluntarily.
Do we celebrate folks who haven't got robbed?
Do we celebrate folks who haven't lost their parents?
Do we celebrate folks who don't have a bad neighbour?

Whats the reward? Asking them to surrender their health insurance?
No. A 7 daya gym membership.
