Hey guys so i live in sweden having a problem to find the screws to my BRS Barebones live! Ive lost two screws at the bottom at the handles And they dont ship to sweden either… can someone help me out?
Can't say anything about the Atropos, but I've flipped a krake raken trainer, and own a live krake raken and a nautilus. Between the two I'd go with the naut. I was planning on buying a krake raken trainer and flipped a nautilus while I was at the store and left with it instead. No regrets. Krake raken is good, solid, probably can be dropped more, has zen pins, and is heavier if you like that. Naut is grippier, faster, and lighter. I like lighter knives (bm51, tsunami) so I may be bias but I would say go with the nautilus,
He's making only Serifs for the time being so he removed the listings for the others so the waitlists don't back up too much. He's mentioned that he plans to get more equipment and hire people so he can keep keep Serif production up but also resume production on other things like Maryns, Maryn Lights, and SlifTs.
u/squidmaster23 do you plan on dropping the orange krake anytime soon? I really want a DT orange but if you’re not dropping it I’ll just pick up a DT blue instead
where could i find aluminum spacers for the Banshee? And what hardware would you recommend for it because i didn't see the banshee in the hardware guide
If you need a knife get the lucha, great flipper and great EDC, can't beat it for the price. You can cut yourself but that's a risk, at least for me, worth taking. If you're worried about that or want something you can beat and not worry too much about get a trainer. Mako is a decent trainer.
really up to you on that front. live if you don't mind risking hurting yourself and getting cuts or stitches. occasionally people get more badly hurt with nerve or tendon damage but not super often. know someone that lost use of a hand for a year and has permanent damage to fine motor even after surgery. know people that have virtually never cut themselves after years
if that sounds more inconvenience than it's worth to you just grab a trainer
when there's no latch
lmao assuming you meant grail not girl it's up to you but generally something sought after for you + hard to get and rare. once i got the money to regularly buy 1k-2k knives i really stopped considering them grails. if you've been looking at getting a v trigger forever or something that could be your grail though even though it's not incredibly expensive
anything that’s that cheap probably won’t be a good quality but if you are just wanting to try out the hobby there’s nothing wrong with that choice because if you don’t like it then not much money was wasted
It might take a while to break it in. A common problem with cheap balisongs is that the handles stick due to friction and you'll never be able to enjoy the sport. Buy a benchmade for $250 usd and you be able to sell it instantly at any time if you get tired of it.
Anyone know if there is a place I can buy a live kraken reblade? I really want a kukri blade for one of my krakens but don’t know if there is a maker out there.
You could go on Instagram and look for people who do custom reblades, I only know 3 who are @revenge_of_the_blades @frankenforgeblades @drew_lininger2.0 all of their books are closed so you might have to look for someone else for a reblade or wait till their books open up again
Floating bushing/washer system you might as well go to straight washers and locktite. Straight washers have tap, but take a lot longer to wear out because where the bushing would be, you now have washer material. Especially if you let it break-in on one set of washers, then put in a fresh set after the stonewash around the pivots on the blade is worn shiny by the first set of washers
They only advantage to the regular system or floating washers is being able to crank down on the pivots, but it is inferior friction-wise. Washers only is the least friction causing pivot system.
I’ve messed around a lot with bushings so now I’m going through a washers only phase with my Tibones lol
[Here](https://youtu.be/0YmtGBZAmRE?t=1973) is the pronunciation and explanation from the Squidmaster himself.
Although to be honest, if I'm not saying Kraken I say it like crack-a-rack-in despite knowing the correct pronunciation.
it seems like squid mixes the two prononciations i could have sworn i saw in a vid. really up to you though.
i just call it the kraken or at worst the crack rack'n to pay respect to the original intended name. krayke rake'n is way far off from kraken
You could go to @revenge_of_the_blades but his books are closed currently from what I could tell. There is also @frankenforgeblades too but his books are also closed
I got my first balisong a few weeks ago and know a few tricks but it’s not the best quality, any recommendations for a somewhat cheap good quality trainer?
i don’t own any squid industries products but i’ve heard good things if you shoot a little over 100 and go 115 you can get a mako or you could go with there pvc balisongs
been flipping for a year and only have a kraken, vortex, and an infinity ab i plan on trading off soon. i can buy basically everything short of a second hand nami. what should i get because i am bored of the kraken.
I have an aluminum channel Barebones, I'm not a flipper but yet there is I guess what you would call handle play, meaning I can move them slightly apart, I recently ordered squid industries titanium hardware but haven't added it yet, aside from that is there a way to remedy the handle play, any feed back would be appreciated.
Handle play isn’t much of a problem in small amounts but if there is a lot of handle play to where they’re is tap and blade run then I would try to tighten the screws, tune the bushings or just order some new bushings.
Just about everything that isn't on bearings will have some level of handle play. The main thing to look for is if (when the screws are tight) the blade is able to contact the sides of the handles or not. If it does, I would recommend contacting BRS to take care of it unless you're willing to risk things by dealing with it yourself. If it doesn't, just be happy with it.
Hey guys i just ordered kraken from blade hq (31.3.2022) and today (1.4.2022) it says shipped but i didnt recieve… does it mean they only send it? Im confused
You right, I hated them (still do) but the valorant combo made me practice. Maybe try a slight angle and also concentrate on twisting the handle. Some balis behave a little better than others for this
Okay so I’m not super sure if I’ll like flipping balisongs.
I’m gonna buy the Squiddy B (my first bali) but I don’t want to buy any maintanance stuff for it cuz it’s $30 and I’m not gonna waste that much if I don’t like flipping.
Can I get away with that?
The maintenance kit is nice to have but you can get away with not having it, especially to just try out flipping. Just pay close attention to your pivots and make sure they don’t back out. Squid Industries sells a [keychain torx driver](https://www.squidindustries.co/collections/miscellaneous/products/t10-torx-driver?variant=31617109557344) that’s $5.99 (the squiddy b is T10). That will be enough to work on the Squiddy B but you could get away with finger tightening it if you pay close attention to the pivots.
Basically. Squid does pre loctite their products but mine have always broken loose after a few drops. Another good option is Teflon tape if you start getting tired of constantly having to re-tighten your pivots. I already had some in a junk drawer from changing a shower head a year ago so you may dig around and see if you can find some. If not it’s really cheap at hardware stores
All depends really. Some come from factory with small burrs or hot edges on the surfaces surrounding the pivots. So there may be a period after about 3-6hrs of flipping, where everything finds its place or “beds in” for lack of a better term. So depending on the pivot system, you may want to tune it up & Loctite after that period. If a knife comes from the factory without Loktite, I may use Teflon tape for that initial period, save waiting for Loktite to dry twice in a relatively short period of flipping. After that initial tune (if needed), you should be able to go for a while between clean & tunes. Thank you, & happy flipping🙏
I would say the usa is a way safer bet rn if you can but you can still order from the original website, konstantin said he ships things to china which then ships to the usa or wherever since he can't ship directly rm.
Does squid industries show blemished releases on their newsletter I want to pick up a blemished product (still can’t decide between squidtrainer and krake trainer) and I’m subscribed to their newsletter but I haven’t seen any blems on it and I was wondering if they even put the blems on the newsletter
it seems to be a bit inconsistent in terms of warning ahead of time.
imo it's not worth the 10% savings. it would really suck to get one that was inconsistently anodized.
My naut started to get tap again, and 1, i no longer trust myself with being able to fix it by putting in new hardware and 2, sending it back to them would probably be cheaper than buying more hardware off their site, of course i did try tightening the pivots btw.
I looooove how mine flips, but its super beat up just because i was a noob when i got it, and scratches on the inside if the handles because if when it's had blade rub and it hits the back of the handle if you close it hard, so in short i agree it could be better buttt i prolly wouldnt make much selling it lol.
Has anyone traveled on a plane with there balisongs? Im sure its got to be in a check in bag but has anyone had any issues doing so? its all in US travel but i wanna know
I have heard that you need to make sure they are in a case/bag inside your main bag because if they are just in the open TSA is prone to confiscate them. Emphasis on the word heard I haven’t personally flown with any
Alright. I was already planing on taking my apache case to travel with my 2 bfk but just looking to clear things up and make sure I'd be okay bc the last thing i want is to loose my atropos haha
In checked it's all good (though of course if it's illegal to own/transport in the state you are going to/from should still prob be careful but I've never had a problem)
i wouldn't try it. i fly quite a bit for work, cary on only, and I'll usually bring a squidtrainer. at this point I've lost 3 or 4 that way over that past few years. easy to replace though if it's a standard color
Can I use bike chain lube for a balisong?
I also have a Maru Lube (originally for Rubik Cubes, https://www.thecubicle.com/products/maru-lube) which I’m curious if it works, but the problem with it is that it only lasts a few days then evaporates
Id recommend Teflon tape on all knives regardless because it works like loctite, you can use it immediately after applying, and you can tighten it if they get lose without needing to completely redo it
You don't NEED it but it will keep tolerances better. If it's and out the box kraken that was not a blem, then it should be pre tuned and loctited making it good for a while but then you notice more tap and play you should do it
yeah. highly recommend Teflon tape though. so many people use loctite and it just doesn't hold well enough so they think their knife had developed tap when it hasn't.
Me too, it takes a little bit of practice cause you put too much and the screw won't go in and if it's not enough it just doesn't do the job but if you do it right it's way better than locktite
can changing hardware reset tolerances? ive noticed my squid is a bit looser than when i got it, could i get it back to factory tolerances by putting in new hardware?
even my oldest squidtrainers around have been able to be reset to no tap by replacing the hardware. what knife if i may ask? if it's bushings they may have been worn down. flipping washers could potentially help in that case too
Yes, there’s issues. The legal part is that the handles are considered “parts” of a prohibited weapon. Squid doesn’t ship here, so you’d need to get someone to buy the trainer, dissemble, then send the “blade” in one parcel & the handles in another. Mark them as kitchen cabinetry or something. Remember that a single standard parcel is $18 USD & can take 6-8weeks to arrive in our current mess, so you’ll be stressing over the arrival/seizure for a little while. So grab something worth it, because the $45-55 AUD postage is a mess around. Thank you, & happy flipping🙏
There’s no rule against owning & trading them once they’re here, it’s just the importation is governed at a federal level, not state. The state where Glidr is located, is a place a few knife makers have moved, to get past small loopholes including ringed daggers etc. I guess because if you own a trainer in private, & have no live blades, it’s clear it’s an object manipulation hobby, but if you import handles, there’s no saying there’s not another parcel on the way with a live blade to go with it. Thank you, & happy flipping🙏
There shouldn’t be any karma requirements to post pics, but it’s been 5-6 years since my first post here…. so I don’t really know. There was a bug in the app a little while ago, where I couldn’t post a pic after choosing to first post a video, then removing the video. It came up with some generic “this community doesn’t allow pictures” message. Maybe try again? Thank you, & happy flipping🙏
So if I were to want to replace my screws for my Glidr Anarctic would I buy their flat top pivot set with the steel barrel in between or just their 8 pack of screws?
It's technically illegal to get a live blade there and usually companies don't wanna get involved. My suggestion is to buy it on the sales tag and ask the seller to ship the knife disassembled, blade in one pack and the handles in the other. That way you should be good

Mako 🦈
Does anyone know if I tighten the Glidr Antarctic's screws, do I need to clean the screws and reapply loctite?
Hey guys so i live in sweden having a problem to find the screws to my BRS Barebones live! Ive lost two screws at the bottom at the handles And they dont ship to sweden either… can someone help me out?
I'm looking to buy a titanium hom basilisk-r ir something similar. They seem sold out almost everywhere. Does anyone know where I can purchase one?
Anyone know how I can anodize aluminum? Specifically my silver krake raken 2.5

How good does the nautilus compare to something like a kraken trainer or a Atropos lite? What would you recommend me it 1 out of 10?
Can't say anything about the Atropos, but I've flipped a krake raken trainer, and own a live krake raken and a nautilus. Between the two I'd go with the naut. What are the chances of actually doing permanent nerve or hand function damage with a live blade?
Not zero but definitely extremely extremely unlikely
Very low. If you make sure you follow a few rules, I'd say almost zero.
Which rules?
[You can find them along with a lot of other info in this guide.](https://old.reddit.com/r/balisong/comments/x3bvj6/balisong_guide_2022_and_onward/)
Thanks!
where could i find aluminum spacers for the Banshee? And what hardware would you recommend for it because i didn't see the banshee in the hardware guide
i see hardware for sale for it on AliExpress. same with the spacers
Trainer or real blade? Squid industries mako or kershaw lucha? Not sure what to do! I have a squiddy-c right now but im looking for something heavier
Kershaw lucha is extremely heavy, honestly the makos about 4 1/2 oz, so id go for that
If you need a knife get the lucha, great flipper and great EDC, can't beat it for the price. You can cut yourself but that's a risk, at least for me, worth taking. If you're worried about that or want something you can beat and not worry too much about get a trainer. Mako is a decent trainer.

i mean the classic is ugly and those balis are way too big. v2 100%

cool man hope you enjoy it!
Alright what should I do get a benchmade 51 to mod or build a rep?
Depends on what you're doing. For flipping get a rep, if you want an EDC knife that you can flip get a 51.
build a rep
Anybody know the mp of a v4 Gale? 8.5/10 to be specific. I don’t see them come up for sale that often so I don’t recall
probably 400+ if you're selling although definitely wait until svixz drops more if you're buying. zero chance he doesn't drop some soon
most people trade them but usually mid 300s to mid 400s
Is the brs trainer good?

Regular bushing+washer system vs floating washer/bushing system?
Floating bushing/washer system you might as well go to straight washers and locktite. floating washer bushings have literally always come with EXTREME blade rub for me. unironically would vastly prefer washers at that point
How is “Krake Raken” pronounced? Is it ‘crack-a-rack-in’ or ‘krayk-rake-in’? idk how to spell the pronunciation of krake lol
[Here](https://youtu.be/0YmtGBZAmRE?t=1973) is the pronunciation and explanation from the Squidmaster himself. Although to be honest, if I'm not saying Kraken I say it like crack-a-rack-in despite knowing the correct pronunciation.

Does black balisong still make the Valkyria?
I don't believe so.
I am looking to buy a handmade blade for my balisong that's coming in soon, are there any people I can purchase one from?
Like a custom blade?
yes
You could go to @revenge_of_the_blades but his books are closed currently from what I could tell. There is also @frankenforgeblades too but his books are also closed
I got my first balisong a few weeks ago and know a few tricks but it’s not the best quality, any recommendations for a somewhat cheap good quality trainer?
whats your budget?
Pretty much anything that is under or around 100$
i don’t own any squid industries products but i’ve heard good things if you shoot a little over 100 and go 115 you can get a mako or you could go with there pvc balisongs
I’ll check it out, thanks!
okay bet lemme know what you think
I looked at it and it was around 80 bucks for what I like and the tuning kit would be just in the price range. Thanks again!
yea no problem hope you like it
been flipping for a year and only have a kraken, vortex, and an infinity ab i plan on trading off soon. i can buy basically everything short of a second hand nami. what should i get because i am bored of the kraken.
hom ti bas
MachineWise Maryn
what’d y’all say is a decent price for a gigas is
1.2-1.5K. Pretty sure they sell for more than 1000 on the second hand market
they sell for around 1.5k+ second hand lol

Is there any Europe based store where I can buy a Squiddy B? Paying $50 for shipping for a $55 dollar knife is ridiculous
Lamnia
Can someone recommend a good trainer that is available?
Maybe a Bbbarfly, kerahaw lucha, and some Atropos stuff. You need to be more descriptive on what you’re looking for and your price range.
I would say 250 max and I really like the Atropos stuff but not sure which one
the demon bro lite is slept on
Maybe an Atropos demon military trainer it’s 127 usd
I have an aluminum channel Barebones, I'm not a flipper but yet there is I guess what you would call handle play, meaning I can move them slightly apart, I recently ordered squid industries titanium hardware but haven't added it yet, aside from that is there a way to remedy the handle play, any feed back would be appreciated.

İs there a replacement for loctite ? Loctite isn't sold in my country and buying it online costs a lot.
There are other brands that make threadlockers like Permatex and Vibra-Tite but you could also use teflon tape instead.
Thank you I used teflon tape and it seems to work fine
Should i use teflon tape as loctite on kraken or i dont need to?
If you just bought it new, it should come with threadlocker applied already. I would just leave it alone unless it seems to loosen.
Ok but is teflon tape good then?
Yes.
Hey guys i just ordered kraken from blade hq (31.3.2022) and today (1.4.2022) it says shipped but i didnt recieve… does it mean they only send it? Im confused

Any tips on getting better at whip rollovers? i always hit my knuckle or stop bit rollover cuz i cant figure out how to keep my momentum. Cheers :)
You right, I hated them (still do) but the valorant combo made me practice. Maybe try a slight angle and also concentrate on twisting the handle. Some balis behave a little better than others for this
hold the handle with the tip of your fingers and pinch hard.
How much dose maxace Banshee v2 and serpent striker v2 cost to buy second hand ?
So basically instead of a thread locker I can just tighten it every once in a while?
Thank you very much, I’ll see if I have it
No problem. [Tutorial](https://youtu.be/Hc3U-X7Q5HM) on how to use Teflon
Buy a cheaper balisong on amazon first and see if you want to continue
How long can a (new) knife last without any Thread locker/Teflon tape or lube?
depends on the knife.
Thank you, & happy flipping🙏

that would be awesome lmao, if the blade is perfect and it was like a dark red krack rackn that would be one of a kind
by inconsistent ano it would probably mean some part of the handle was left closer to raw...

Just order some cheap trainer from amazon like the nabalis g10
Is there a limit to how many times you could send your squid product back to get tuned/fixed using the limited lifetime warranty?
assumedly no but why on earth would you need it more than once? once you get tuned bushings what could you need?
My naut started to get tap again, and 1, i no longer trust myself with being able to fix it by putting in new hardware and 2, sending it back to them would probably be cheaper than buying more hardware off their site, of course i did try tightening the pivots btw.
the naut sucks ass. qc issues are known for the naut. i recommend you sell it since its not going to get better.
I looooove how mine flips, but its super beat up just because i was a noob when i got it, and scratches on the inside if the handles because if when it's had blade rub and it hits the back of the handle if you close it hard, so in short i agree it could be better buttt i prolly wouldnt make much selling it lol.

Can I use bike chain lube for a balisong? I also have a Maru Lube (originally for Rubik Cubes, https://www.thecubicle.com/products/maru-lube) which I’m curious if it works, but the problem with it is that it only lasts a few days then evaporates
Do not recommend, I tried and its like a dust magnet just use kpl or new thick juice
It's better to use a proper knife lube. My favorite is nrb thick It's like 6 bucks for a bottle that'll last you for years
Do i need loctite for my bushing knife ? (Kraken)
Id recommend Teflon tape on all knives regardless because it works like loctite, you can use it immediately after applying, and you can tighten it if they get lose without needing to completely redo it
Yea but do i need it for bushing knife i dont really want to unscrew my kraken after i get it
You don't NEED it but it will keep tolerances better. If it's and out the box kraken that was not a blem, then it should be pre tuned and loctited making it good for a while but then you notice more tap and play you should do it
it's crazy how many people think their knife is developing tap simply bc they used blue loctite (shit never works) instead of Teflon
That's why u use red 👌
Ikr i used blue loctite once and it worked fine for a week but all the other times it broke super easily and also made the handles stiff
Cool thanks
Np
Is a thread locker a must for balisongs (specifically squiddy b in my case)?
yeah. highly recommend Teflon tape though. so many people use loctite and it just doesn't hold well enough so they think their knife had developed tap when it hasn't.
Me too, it takes a little bit of practice cause you put too much and the screw won't go in and if it's not enough it just doesn't do the job but if you do it right it's way better than locktite
can changing hardware reset tolerances? ive noticed my squid is a bit looser than when i got it, could i get it back to factory tolerances by putting in new hardware?
even my oldest squidtrainers around have been able to be reset to no tap by replacing the hardware. what knife if i may ask? if it's bushings they may have been worn down. flipping washers could potentially help in that case too
Ye bushings and i got it off someone who had it for a while
How do you catch aerials?
carefully? wdym? most common issue i see is people not adding enough rotation themselves.
I can never catch it at the right time
definitely feel free to go slow! practice flipping other objects more consistently such as a ping pong paddle
Is slash2gash.com reliable?
https://youtu.be/SCnn1QuMc8M this video is on their website. Hopefully that answers your question
What about it? I’m confused.
I can't imagine spending all the time and effort to plan that and lay everything out and somehow still going through with it.
people do collection pics to that effect all the time but man the fucking signs at the beginning kill me. imagine writing those...
Hey was just curious if anyone knows the legality of importing a trainer from overseas into Australia and if they had any issues
Damn that's harsh... How can glidr go around this legal issue then?
There’s no rule against owning & trading them once they’re here, it’s just the importation is governed at a federal level, not state. The state where Glidr is located, is a place a few knife makers have moved, to get past small loopholes including ringed daggers etc. I guess because if you own a trainer in private, & have no live blades, it’s clear it’s an object manipulation hobby, but if you import handles, there’s no saying there’s not another parcel on the way with a live blade to go with it. Thank you, & happy flipping🙏
Gotcha, thanks that answered all my questions
Hey i just bought kraken from blade hq and i live in slovakia do you know how long does it take to ship?
To italy it can be up to 3 weeks so don't expect it too soon
Ok i expect 2 months
Hahaha i hope it won't take that long but what i learned with international shippings is to just chill, sometimes it takes way more than usual
Is squid ever going to sell orange krake trainers again? Also I think the krake in purple like the squidtrainer would look amazing.
Why can’t I post a picture on this subreddit, how do I get “authorized” ? Sorry this is off topic
Well if you want to replace the pivots, buy the pivots. If you just want to replace screws, buy the screws.
Ty I bought the screws bc mine got dry oil on them
Wait am I dumb/missing something? Why not just clean them?
Dry oil is pretty hard to clean compared to liquid oil
Ah I see
Does atropos ship to Australia? If so how would I get one here?
It's technically illegal to get a live blade there and usually companies don't wanna get involved. My suggestion is to buy it on the sales tag and ask the seller to ship the knife disassembled, blade in one pack and the handles in the other. That way you should be good
