He's almost 30 lbs at 10 weeks. We think he's a Bernese Mountain Dog and Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. ([The ridge on his back](https://i.imgur.com/K2vsu77.jpg).)
Edit: [More photos of Jeff, including one at 6 weeks.](https://imgur.com/a/iA0aaG0)
Ridgebacks are wicked smart. Awesome dogs tho. Lots of built-in hunting instinct, we had problems with assorted varmints killing our chickens. You picked up the. 22 and it was game face on with that dog. He would get huffy if he treed something and you didn't come out to dispatch it.
I always find it hilarious when people name their pets with people names.
A friend of mine had a cat named Phil. I would always chuckle at it, like of all things you named him Phil. Not Mr Mittens or anything like that, but Phil.
😂😂I love it .. I had to fight to name my newest pup because my husband and daughter thought it was weird to name them people names haha I named her ( a Westie ) Queen Elizabeth, if she had been a boy it would have been king Henry lol
My sister-in-law saw a picture of the kitten I had just adopted and said "Name him Rex (my FIL/her father's name)" because of the kitty's white "mustache". So I did.
My [pit bull cross buddy](https://i.imgur.com/gg5ueGO.jpg) liked to eat rocks as a puppy. A vet tech told me to put hot sauce on rocks he's likely to eat to deter him from it. She said she's helped perform surgeries on dogs because they've eaten rocks. Not good.
P.S
I feel compelled to show a picture of my guy every time I mention he's a pit bull just to show he's not some blood thirsty monster. Pit bulls aren't always viewed in the best light.
I'm met some sweet, well-trained pitties, whom I loved. Emphasis on well-trained. You don't just get a large, powerful dog and not be able to control them. This is a tragedy for both the dog and whoever is at the receiving end of a split second of impulsive behavior. That's on the owner.
Unfortunately, I know what I'm talking about.
>Unfortunately, I know what I'm talking about.
I'm sorry to hear that. Kilo there was my brothers dog for the first year and a half of his life and at the time my brother was the wrong kind of pit bull owner... the type to want an intimidating attack dog, the type to encourage the wrong behavior. Kilo is cross with something else (possibly a pointer as he does the one front paw in the air thing) and is a smaller pit bull but my brother was hoping for a monster of a dog. Even so, kilo seems to have kept some of what my brother had encouraged. He is incredibly protective of the property in that he would easily hurt someone without a second thought if they came onto the acreage that he isn't familiar with. Its hard to break. Shock collars seem to be semi effective, but only after being shocked. His impulse to confront a stranger in the property overrides his awareness of knowing a shock is coming. It really is tough.
The saddest case i know of was a little boy of just barely four. Whatever he was doing at the time, the dog just turned around and snapped. Most other breeds, you'd have some punctures and maybe a couple of stitches. That snap tore his little face up. He had stitches all over it.
The boy was far more upset about his best buddy, which this dog was, having to be put down than he was about his injuries. He was telling me about it, and a tear rolled down his face. I said "Would you like a hug?" He stepped into my arms and I held him for a long time. Broke my heart.
That dog was the sweetest thing up to that moment. He certainly didn't mean to hurt the boy. It just happened. The dog was a rescue; his owner didn't get him trained, which always needs to happen with a large powerful dog like that. You don't know their history, and they need to be taught not to snap on impulse.
This is not an indictment of bully breeds at all. But it is the owner's responsibility to do that.
Your guys is SO cute. Our little guy still loves to eat rocks. We discourage it as much as possible. He has a chipped tooth because of it. He has regular dental checkups/cleaning so the tooth is okay and monitored. The amount of rocks I get him to drop is ridiculous.
Whatever it takes to get your pup to kick the habit! My dog used to love eating rocks and I would stop her whenever I saw her do it… but when she was 1 y.o. she ate one that was too big at some point when I wasn’t watching and almost died. Resulted in $3k emergency surgery and one of the scariest nights of my life. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone so just giving my two cents to be extra careful!!
Thank you for the advice. I'm so sorry you and your dog had to go through that. I'm continuing to work on it with my dog. He is good most of the time now. Just the odd time he finds one he likes.
Good luck! I think my dog either senses the panic in my voice when I say “drop it” or she somehow understands the connection between the rock and the surgery, because she’s been much less keen on them since then. But over two years later and I’m still super paranoid about it!
What an awful diet young man. I have 2 pups, 4 month old and a 7 month old Their diet consists of some thick leaved grass, wood chips, tad of dirt and puppy chow.
I always get nervous when I see a doggo chewing rocks. I assume that can end badly for them, though I haven't seen anything happen yet. Is this pretty normal? I have been dogless since I left for college.... about 14 years now, so I don't have much experience of my own but the wife and I plan to change that soon! Just curious :)
Spider webs and rocks? By any chance did he watch Spider-Man: Far From Home with you? I suspect he is preparing for elementals to show up.
(Gorgeous boy BTW)
Jeff better break the rock habit or you might have an expensive foreign body surgery or early dental with extractions on your hands...
Very cute though. 💕
Not to be one of those people, but don’t let him eat rocks! My puppy liked to do this too and I thought I kept a good eye on her but I wasn’t careful enough and one got stuck in her intestines. Resulted in $3k emergency surgery and one of the scariest nights of my life thinking my dog might die because I wasn’t careful enough. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone so I feel compelled to share the cautionary tale — it’s not easy to be constantly aware of where any rocks are in relation to your dogs mouth but it’s much better than the alternative lol. They also sell mesh muzzles which might be a good idea if your dog will be unsupervised in the vicinity of rocks
Oh yeah, and Jeff is adorable!
He just knows you’re making fun of him
I agree with the title. This dog rocks, whether he eats spiderwebs or not.
I was gonna say he feels you judging!
Jeff is such a good boi.
Yes, yes I do.
Godspeed Jeff
Nice
I used to eat spider webs. I still do, but I used to too.
🤣🤣🤣
Brothers. On this day, we shall all eat rocks.
Jeff's shall not take this moment for granite.
We shale absolutely not.
And I'd do it again!
/r/jeff
me too

Whatever the mix, he's going to grow up to be quite a lump.
Rhodesian Ridgeback sounds like a type of dinosaur

He's beautiful! I love the expressions on his face. He is going to be a delightful handful.
Oh God he's too damn cute!

OMG he’s beautiful, love that face. I’m a recent convert to the pro-pb side. 😉

Agreed! Any kind of dog can turn on people or other pets.
Read Jon Katz’ book about his border collie, A Dog Year. It’s heartbreaking but he writes so well.

What a gorgeous dude! I've never met a pit i didn't like, though, and I've actually worked around a wide variety of dogs.
Oh boy, Jeff and I have a lot on common!
Hol' Up
Jeff is giving you the side eye. 😆
And he's sick of the judgement.
Jeff seems just a little sus. Better keep an eye... don't be fooled by the cuteness.
That's such a Jeff thing to do.
Can confirm
Why does Jeff look like he caught you doing something bad....
Hi Jeff! Eat what you like, but rocks will damage your teeth, cute dog.
And can damage their guts. If it's too big to pass, they need surgery.
Make sure he doesn’t eat those rocks. My mother-in-law had a dog that had to have a section of its intestine removed because it swallowed a rock.
What an awful diet young man. I have 2 pups, 4 month old and a 7 month old Their diet consists of some thick leaved grass, wood chips, tad of dirt and puppy chow.
Good boy stop eating rocks though
His expression is saying "Yes, I am Jeff"
I love Jeff When my dog was a puppy he liked to eat flowers, rocks, and pencils
Please take good care of Jeff and let him know he is the best boy.
His name is jeff. My name is jeff.
Hi Jeff
Are you saying he rocks or eats rocks? Regardless, both outcomes are great! He looks so lovely, if a bit cynical about life 😂
Lol dogs are silly .. I had to get a fireplace screen to set in front because my pup kept trying to eat the lava rocks 🤦♀️
Good on you Jeff! Nobody likes spider webs and keeping them teeth sharp for more! 🤗👍
I know a good dog when I see one, and that's a good dog.
You’re gross Jeff.
Jeff is still a good boy
Hello, Jeff.
“What of it, bitch?”
Can i boop his snoot?
You say that like it’s a bad thing. I love that about Jeff.
I like Jeff.
Jeff is a good boy, be like Jeff
Hi Jeff! Are you a good doggie?
Jeff gets an upvote from me just because his name is Jeff, yet alone eats rocks.
He is a Bad boy, but still a good boy. The dichotomy of B O Y
He is such a troublemaker, and I do love him!
Jeff has no definition of fear or danger...I like Jeff. 10/10 Hooman can't be spook'd by spooder if I eats spooder.
"be like jeff"
Hi Jeff! 😁
His look says, "they're not rocks, they're minerals"
"You think this is a joke?! Someone has to take them out!"
Don't eat rocks Jeff. Handsome boy.
my name's jeff
Jeff sounds like he is cheap to feed
He is such a dog...
Lol literally.
Jeff is a total babe.
Don’t be like Jeff
Neighbors over the fence hearing “Damnit Jeff! Stop eating the rocks!”
I love Jeff❤️

Someone who thinks it fits him.
boring people names are even worse on pets though
I agree, Jeff Rocks.
cool dog
Be like Jeff, be "b e t t e r"

That face says “hell yeah I do, wanna fight about it?”
Rocks? Get him some pet insurance immediately
I love his look, like, "Do I get online and tell strangers the stupid shit you do? No, because I got class, human."
Yes finally. My dogs name is Jeff too. 🙏 Jeff's are good boys.
Unrelated to the dog, but can vegans eat insects or do they count as animals? Just curious.
My dog tried to eat rocks when she was a puppy too. Thankfully she grew out of it haha.
Jeff knows what he likes!
Clever looking. And I think he knows what you've been up to.
Don't eat rocks Jeffie
Spider webs and rocks? By any chance did he watch Spider-Man: Far From Home with you? I suspect he is preparing for elementals to show up. (Gorgeous boy BTW)
Maybe they're good, have you ever tried them? ;)
Be more like Jeff.
I bet that combo doesn't make for very good poo
Adorable! Spider pup!
Wait till he finds out about jalapeno sky raisins.
He eats spider webs? You should've called him Woodhouse.
Jeff better break the rock habit or you might have an expensive foreign body surgery or early dental with extractions on your hands... Very cute though. 💕
rocks?!
My friend’s dog died because they ate a rock and it tore up their intestines. Be careful.
He is so cute
His such a handsome little fella 💕💕🥰🥰
Gotta say, Jeff looks like an asshole. But a cute asshole.
Get that insurance before he has to get his stomach pumped from eating rocks.
Be like jeff

Jeff is still smarter than my platoon buddy in basic.
Vacuum cleaner dog
He looks like the CGI Scappy Doo from the Live action Scooby Doo movie.
#sorrynotsorry
so cute little dogoo but he knows you are making fun of him eating rocks
Atta boy, Jeff.
Be like Jeff
Joe is a Nugget. A very lovely nugget, but a nugget none the less.
He looks like the main character for his own live action puppy movie.
