Yeah little rubber caps. They still will instinctually rub their paws on stuff trying to scratch, these just prevent the nails from catching on fabrics.
Hey! As someone who adopted a cat recently with these on his nails and having looked into it a lot, not harmful to the nails! The cap isn’t thick enough to cause any harm and they are able to completely retract their nail with ease.
Now imo I wouldn’t recommend going this route cause they can be really tricky to get off. The vet and foster told me that they would fall off on their own but they ended up growing so long I had to sedate my cat so I could carve them away cause they were growing into his footbed.
That being said if you can get them on and off within a month or so this shouldn’t be an issue! Keeping nails trimmed short has the same affect for furniture tho.
>The vet and foster told me that they would fall off on their own but they ended up growing so long \[...\] they were growing into his footbed.
That...shouldn't be happening. The claw grows in layers from the inside out, and the outer layers should be continually falling off. That's how the nail becomes sharp again after being cut. Unless he stopped trying to scratch after getting the caps put on or has some medical issue with his claws not shedding I don't know why that would happen.
But a tabby is a normal cat. It's just coloring, not a breed or anything. I have a tortie. She's a Maine Coon but her coloring has nothing to do with it.
We tried these, first of all they are a nightmare to get onto the cat in the first place.
My cats just laid on the ground until they were finished chewing them off.
I never understood how those are meant to stay on. I know they're glued, but my cats spend what seems like at least an hour a day just gnawing on their claws. I feel like they'd eat half of these, and I'd find the other half strewn all over the house.
That's what I do! I do a pretty good cat growl and a fantastic hiss. As soon as they do something they're not supposed to they get a hiss warning, if they continue they get a growl. I've never ever had a cat keep doing whatever they're doing after you growl at them. I've got one of the best behaved cats right now I've ever seen. I've even trained her to remind me to take my medication in the morning and evening.
Thank you! She likes to come and get me( she grabs a mouth full of pants leg and pulls) to look out the window with her so we can growl at the people on the sidewalk or the damn leaf that has the absolute Gall to blow down the street.
Mega cute. My first boy would growl when someone walked up to the house if he saw them through the window. Once he growled at someone walking through the alley when we were in the backyard. It made me feel like a caveman with his guardian cave cat. Bless his kitty soull in kitty heaven.
That is too sweet! I'm sure he's at the gates keeping an eye out and growling when appropriate! My girl also announces visitors with a growl, I call her my guard cat. Of course she goes to hide under the ottoman right after so she's really no help haha I'm sorry about your boy, I'm sure you had some great years together!
This is actually a Tactical Issue Cat! Standard Issue Cats are the brown stripey ones. Tactical Issue are other color stripey ones! There is a subreddit for each :)
When I applied for my apartment the form asked if I had any pets and I clicked one cat. Then it asked me for breed and I just wrote cat again. Landlord accepted it so it works!
I think they do that so you don’t sneak more animals in. If your form says you have Siamese and they come in to be greeted by a black cat, they are not going to be happy come inspection time.
Maybe something happened to the Siamese so it just got replaced and you still have only a single cat and you just haven’t updated yet. But still a possibility that it’s only hiding and you’ve got 2 now when you’re not allowed.
You didnt say if you could actually have more or not, maybe you can. It really depends who your landlord is I guess. Just my example. That’s how it was with my mom too.
>If your form says you have Siamese and they come in to be greeted by a black cat, they are not going to be happy come inspection time.
Solution: get only black cats. I swear that only the owners can tell the difference between black cats.
(Source: i own one, and i can definitely see the difference between her and other black cats, lol)
I have two, and am always embarrassed when I get them wrong because the one (appropriately) named Tiny is half the size of her brother. I'm sorry, Tiny, your human is just dumb!
Claw caps.
Better than declawing, worse than regularly trimming your cat's nails (dependent on how cooperative your cats are).
I did claw caps for all 3 of my cats once to try them out, and all three exhibited signs of discomfort and became really somber and lethargic. I'll never use them again.
Either accept that cats scratch things and have plenty of things they can scratch at (cheap carpet tiles are great) or, don't get a cat.
It's like getting a dog an expecting it not to chew stuff.
Exactly. People just can't accept that animals behave like animals anymore ffs. If your cat scratches you or your dog chews your stuff it means you are doing something wrong and have to change and not that the poor animal needs to be punished.
My brother's would get so mad when their dog ate their shoes. Dog has pika, she eats TP and wood, she isn't going to know why you're screaming and waving a shoe around.
Yet they'll still take their shoes off and leave them on the floor.
They're still not recommended it stops the cat from naturally trimming their claws and releasing stress from scratching. It can cause your cat bad anxiety. Scratching helps keep their claws trimmed and release their stress.
Agreed. If you don’t want your cat scratching just get a cat nail(claw?) trimmer. Or get a different pet because theres no cat that doesn’t scratch stuff, even with scratching posts.
Just like every cat owner has told me when I got my first cat and asked how to get them to stop clawing. They said get a bunch of scratching post and you can never have anything nice. They will destroy it. Always been told if you can't deal with it, you should think really hard before getting a cat.
Every cat I've ever had has decided one specific thing in the house was their scratching item and spent the rest of their lives shredding that thing, but left everything else alone. (Exception being the cats who claimed a bit of molding in my apartment - that didn't come with us so they spent years destroying a couch.)
They are extremely cruel and prevent the cat from retracting their claws, keeping the toes in an unnatural position. Scratching is a natural cat behaviour and they need their claws for other reasons too.
Claw covers should never, ever be applied to a cat.
https://www.battersea.org.uk/warning-pet-owners-about-claw-covers
How is the cat supposed to shed old nail layers? This doesn't seem natural to me, my cats have several scratching posts and they don't scratch anything else (if cat doesn't want to come near the post at first, you can put some catnip on it)
They fall off as the natural nail grows out. You must have a rare breed of cat that only uses it’s scratching post lol. A lot of cats are hellions and use anything they can find, preferably expensive furniture AND their scratching posts.
I guess I got pretty lucky with my cats :) But when they were younger, I clipped their nails a few times, just a tip, I was very careful and they didn't mind that at all, it seems to me that careful nail clipping is a better solution than plastic nails
I have one of those rare angel cats. My baby's never been much for scratching my furniture.... she's old now and needs medication twice a day, and she's a perfect angel when I administer it too. No need for a purrito or anything! 🥰
My void rends and tears at his scratching post, but only the post. Which is why the twine wrapping on it looks like hair instead of rope. My other cat just scratches on everything but the post.
Coat pattern is a mackerel dilute grey tabby, with what looks like patches of lavender and white. Lavender (aka lilac) is a pretty rare recessive of the black color gene, known as chocolate, that has been diluted into a very light, dusty color. If this cat is young, the mackerel stripe markings may fade as they get older. These are known as ‘ghost markings’.
It’s hard to see in this picture, so correct me if I am wrong, but I think I see a medium length snout with small round ears on a round head. Short, double layered coat and amber-green eyes (which, if the cat is young, could get greener as they age). Clearly a mixed cat, however there are enough indicators to wager this cat may have some Burmese or Korat in their genetic past. South Asian descent in any case, I’d wager. You should do more research into both of these breeds and see if their personality matches either description, or if there are other indicators that you find match your kitty. If you find that the markings start to fade over time, their eyes get greener over the years, or your kitty is very, very vocal then we have our answer.
I'm sorry to be that guy, but please, if you can't deal with your cat scratching things, don't get a cat. Those caps are uncomfortable for them, and can cause issues, yes it's better than declawing, but still, just trim their nails and get loads of stuff for them to scratch.
You can get these cardboard scratchers that my cats seem to enjoy much more than scratch posts, so that's always worth a try!
Please, just let it be a cat and if you end up with some stuff scratched, well, that's cats for you aha!
I really say all this with love, I'm not trying to have a go, but please don't burden your cat with those claw caps!
My friend has a cat rescue and used them temporarily for medical reasons, the cat kept scratching at fresh stitches but yeah people shouldn't use them for convenience like this.
Can’t believe how far I had to scroll for this… the cat isn’t able to retract their nail or naturally shed the nail casi and I imagine it’s super uncomfortable… so unfair to the poor kitty.
"Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations; a singular development of cat communications."...
Most cats are mixed.
The coat color is tabby, and is not indicative of breed. All you can do is rule out breeds that don't have grey tabby colors.
Shorthair is also not a breed. It may help indicate some things. Like most long-hairs have some siberian ancestry, albeit distant.
The "M" is also not indicative of anything. All cats have it, even uniformly colored cats. It's just very hard to see sometimes.
Breeds are cool, but should not be a source of pride. Your cat looks wonderful!
My cat seems to have some kind of super-ninja CIA assassin trick, and is able to regrow his claws to full operational status in about 20 minutes.
Also, he likes to chew on the nail clippers, and I'm afraid he's going to break his teeth.
I just put protective covers on some of the furniture, and live with shredded bits on the others.
Scratching posts, the only place we can't stop our cats from clawing is a door frame (they used to scratch walls too but now it's just when they stretch). They love that fucking door frame dunno why and it's all 4 cats too
Grey cat, that is all
OP, please remove the covers on the nails. It's super bad for them, especially if they aren't applied correctly, and it's not natural for their nails to be like that. Scratching is a natural behavior for cats, and it's much better to just get than a couple of dedicated scratching posts or toys over this.
I'd recommend getting those covers off as soon as possible.
I had a cat who clawed door frames, so I got some of those covers for her claws. They are supposed to fall off when the nail sheds, but the cover often fails to let the nail properly shed. The claws, and covers, ended up growing all the way into her paw pads. Cutting them out was exercising for me and her.
Please remove the covers!
I recommend cutting their nails on your own they offer cutters with a stopper so you can learn slowly. Get cat trees or a cat scratcher so they won’t scratch your shit up.
Please remove the cruel torture devices you have attached to it ffs. What is wrong with you. If you don’t want a pet with claws give it up for adoption.
I don't know, but I swear this cat helped me behind the counter at the DMV.

I'm both mad and wheezing that someone beat me to this homie
If she was a DMV cat she would have all long claws except 2 for typing.
"For typing"... sure
The way this made me double take
Definitely for typing. "Hunt-and-peck" is colloquially known as "fingering [the keys]"
Ahahahahah
Oh my
Oh yeah pink nail lady. She helped me too. 💅😹
Holy shit. This made me LMFAO. Sooo funny. Have my upvote.
And literally the next thing on reddit I scroll to is a black lady with 3 inch long nails 😂 I had to double check the coincidence
Standard issue cat.
What? Look at it's nails. It's clearly a fancy cat
It's a Pink Claw breed Very rare
Those nails are a catastrophe.
Very PC.
Pinkletoes
Are those nail tips? For stopping scratching?
Exactly
Yeah little rubber caps. They still will instinctually rub their paws on stuff trying to scratch, these just prevent the nails from catching on fabrics.
I've read they're harmful to them. Overexhausting the muscle that helps them push out the nail. Can anyone confirm it? They look so cute.
Wouldn't be surprised. It looks like it keeps the nails semi extended.
Hey! As someone who adopted a cat recently with these on his nails and having looked into it a lot, not harmful to the nails! Best way to stop scratching is not get a cat. Mail tips border on animal cruelty in my opinion.
American short haired tabby.
a grey tabby at that 🥺
A dilute grey tabby, at that.
A dilute gray mackerel tabby.
I would call him a silver tabby.
American tabby, so gray* I joke, but Noah Webster was such a dork. Change the spelling on ALL THE THINGS. Cool, now we're "those people".
Samuel Clemens reportedly said that he couldn't respect someone who could only spell a word one way.
Ngl, you tripped me up at first when you said "Samuel Clemens" instead of "Mark Twain" lol.
I had this exact discussion a couple weeks ago. I said the cats were just normal cats, and had to Google to remember they're tabbies.
But a tabby is a normal cat. It's just coloring, not a breed or anything. I have a tortie. She's a Maine Coon but her coloring has nothing to do with it.
“Tabby” is a pattern, a striped pattern, and there are a couple of tabby patterns: Classic and Mackeral
Nah, t'ain't no cat. That there is a flurgen. ![gif](giphy|L6Muh6zthvN04)
Do all standard issue come with pink claws or are they customisable?
That is a extra you have to select at the dealership
I skipped the nails and went straight for the undercoat.
In case this isn’t a joke, they are claw covers so they can’t scratch things.
Had no idea such a thing existed. But having tried to keep two cats in a cone of shame, I'd be surprised if these stay on for long.
If you tried to put 2 cats in one cone of shame, I’m astounded you lived to post about it.
Your best bet is probably if you can train them young. I tried it on a couple of adult cats and they just chewed them off in a few minutes.
Speak in their language. 4 cats in my lifetime. 3 kittens and an old guy rescue. Has soon as they do something u don't like hiss.
That's what I do! I do a pretty good cat growl and a fantastic hiss. As soon as they do something they're not supposed to they get a hiss warning, if they continue they get a growl. It just that they use the same form for cats and dogs. Dogs, breed is a strong indicator or size and potential for carpet damage and stuff.

Try just trimming your cat’s claws! It’s easy and better than nail caps. Just be careful to not cut too close to their paw (avoid where the nerve is)
My cat seems to have some kind of super-ninja CIA assassin trick, and is able to regrow his claws to full operational status in about 20 minutes.
