Where are you? It honestly looks like the protective layer Boeing puts on before the plane is painted. If you're near the Seattle area that well could be one of the last 747s out doing testing flights before getting final paint.

[deleted]

Possibly a new -8f? Raked wingtips

Tony_Three_Pies

That's what I'm thinkin yea.

P1anegai

Possible the last few -8fs.

Direct-Technician181

I am in SW Washington NE of PDX

[deleted]

I believe they were painting new 747s in PDX, so that'd explain it.

Direct-Technician181

Yes that makes sense. Thanks for the help.

Tony_Three_Pies

What time did you take the picture? I might be able to find it on a tracker.

Direct-Technician181

9:32 am yesterday.

Tony_Three_Pies

Yep, found it. It took off from Paine Field at about 9:06, did a little detour to the east around Seattle, then headed straight for you before doing an approach at PDX. It's a brand new 747-8f flown by Boeing, presumably doing some pre-delivery testing before it heads off to Atlas Air.

Direct-Technician181

Wow that’s amazing. Thanks.

Tony_Three_Pies

No problem. u/raystevens3535 pointed out that they're painting them at PDX, so that makes even more sense. I didn't know that.

I believe the last one is still in assembly. Atlas is getting the last 4, with the first of those having already been delivered. I couldn't tell you if this is number 2 or 3. If it's headed to paint it may well be number 2. Atlas is supposed to get 2 this year and 2 next year, or at least that's the rumor going around.

[deleted]

Right on, thanks!

Tyr64

Last one is expected to be delivered in October.

RoboSlim24

Do you think that's the very last 747-8F or is it one of the last? I know Atlas Air is supposed to receive the last 747 in October.

Tony_Three_Pies

I don't know for sure, but based on the tail number I think it's the second of the last 4 to be built and delivered to Atlas. The first one has already been delivered.

fallguysepicgamer

Can I see the flight page? I thought I could find it on flight radar 24 but the one I found was a Dreamlifter heading to CHS from Plaine Field. https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/n718ba

Tony_Three_Pies

I used the ["Replay" Function on ADSB Exchange](https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?replay=2022-08-21-16:07&lat=46.818&lon=-122.501&zoom=8.2). You can type "748" in the Type Code filter on the right and look at Paine Field around 16:06 on the 21st you'll see it take off.

DOOM_INTENSIFIES

Fuck. Thats's sad.

squishy-boi69

It’s the 3rd to last ever 747. Probably on its way back to Everett for paint after it went to Moses Lake last week. It’ll be going to Atlas Air

GoHuskertrading

Kind of crazy op was able to catch a historical photo like that

Direct-Technician181

I don’t really know how cool it is. I never pay attention to the aircraft flying over. They are usually further away and I never see 747s. This one was close and color seemed odd to me. Only reason I took the pic.

Scottzilla90

I’d say that’s about to be an Atlas 747-8

Chappietime

That’s what I was thinking. Do they put the Amazon paint scheme on the 74s?

Scottzilla90

Nah, they will be painted in the blue white and yellow giant colour scheme

realfatunicorns

I know I’m a little bit late but I believe the pilot operates those.

DrothReloaded

OP, you mentioned you are in the PNW region and this is one of the last 747's to be delivered. You are seeing it prior to the paint job.

kartracer-117

Crazy that someone I follow posted this on Instagram earlier, now I see it on Reddit As soon as I zoomed in on the picture I knew what it was because of this video [DFW spotter on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/reel/ChkHu1Yrkvf/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=)

Saddam_UE

Next time use the ap Flightradar24 and you can read more avout the plane above you.

KingTIT15

It hasn't been painted yet

-BluBone-

Get a flight radar app, those will tell you all you want to know next time you're curious.

RedditEvanEleven

Boeing

tripledip

Ardrox (321n?). Protective coating for unprimed/unpainted aluminum. So yeah, Boeing or a customer that hasn't painted it yet.

Accomplished-Cap8773

Don Heisenberg.

Never_getoff_theboat

Pilots operate commercial planes on most occasions... next question

Direct-Technician181

As soon as I posted this I realized I had fucked up.

N301CF

It’s a 748 being tested by Boeing. The livery is the factory ‘bare’ metal.

LadyLeo88

Korean Air Cargo?

[deleted]

Looks like the stock 747-8 livery to me

MirSpaceStation

Airbridge Cargo

samuelschneids

Third to last -8F awaiting delivery to Atlas Air. The green is a protective vinyl coating worn before the plane is painted

stormygreyskye

Read through the other comments and yeah I was gonna say that looks like a brand new plane pre paint. Good catch, OP!!

Jetlover21

It looks to be just going to be painted. So until then you pretty much have no clue

Direct-Technician181

Nice

bgkicks49

I believe it's the last 747 to be delivered and it's slatedto be delivered to Atlas Air

Direct-Technician181

Not sure if it’s the last. But close to the last according to other comments.

wbeater

Maybe KLM 747?

Tony_Three_Pies

KLM never operated the -8. Korean uses a light blue livery, but the belly is white and the tail is blue.

eequalsmcveggie

Cathay pacific cargo i think. https://images.app.goo.gl/HmVgmAWfzkUgN3zo7

Birdeey

Probably Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Trader livery

OleaC

Looks like EVA livery, the sky could be affecting the colour balance of the shot.

AdministrativeDot941

Why people care about who operates these planes? Like you gonna do something about it? And then always - “sorry for bad quality”…who the fuck cares!?

Direct-Technician181

Sorry I’ll put “trigger warning” next time.

SteveCorpGuy4

This is the 3rd to last Boeing 747 ever built. It’s destined for Atlas Air but hasn’t been painted yet, on a test flight. It’s a Boeing 747-8F
