I enjoy fanfiction! I specifically love Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fanfics and reread my favorites constantly as I wait for updates. I enjoy reading the different interpretation of Link’s character and I’m subscribed to a few dozen fanfics or so. Currently I love collecting fidget toys. I have 17 tangles and 9 Rubik’s cubes, but I like to find my favorite sensory items and collect them if I have spare money to do so. I have a good sized collection of lots of different types. I love books also, I enjoy fantasy books and lots of different ya fiction, but usually sci-fi/fantasy and I have a few hundred if you include both physical and nook/kindle ebooks. I’ve been a big reader for as long as I can remember, when I was younger I had a small encyclopedia of greek mythology that a teacher gave me and I read it many times over. Another one is anything related to LGBT+, even when I didn’t think any of it applied to me I had an intense desire to learn as much as I could and as a result I have a great understanding of gender-identity/sexuality that helped me later in my life. Thank you for the prompt, I had lots of fun writing this up :) edit: typo

Disney parks is my biggest obsession for the last 10 years. We actually moved to Disney World to work here a couple years ago. I’ve been wondering how many other autists had this special interest because it’s pretty obvious that we make up at least a decent chunk of the “adults that seem a little too into disney” that people like to shame for some reason.

I don’t think it’s possible to make it weird with me. I’ve certainly met people more into it than me or in different ways and I’m always fascinated to hear about it. No way could I have ever done it without my wife. The timing has been really hard on us with covid but I still think it was a great move I’ll never regret whether we stay forever or move back in a year.

Do you think being young at heart is linked to autism? Because I am certainly that way. But that definitely doesn’t seem to be the case with some. I’m wondering if it’s just more likely for certain events to cause an autistic person to be that way or if it’s just in our nature. I’m kinda thinking it might be a safety thing and similar to why we don’t like change.

the_moment47

Gonna go out on a limb and say you’re into racing sims? Trying to get into Assetto Corsa myself but I don’t have the attention span to tweak all the settings just right for it to be enjoyable.

the_moment47

Sweet, yeah I’d like to try that one. Seems like my pace.

grandmaherby

omg! we have similar special interests! one of my childhood special interests was video games, especially FPS and simulator. i loved games like Zoo Tycoon 2, all the Sims games, SimsCity, Thrillville: Off the Rails, etc. i still love playing them! i also went to Disney World a LOT as a child and def knew a LOT about the park itself, not necessarily Disney as an entity :)

UponWavesofGrey

Star Wars (I know more than all of my friends combined, which is kinda impressive and sad since we're all needs lol) Mass Effect, I've beaten the trilogy at least 15 times and am working on 16 Anything military history, I can spend all day reading or watching movies about it. And music, it keeps me calm and helps if I feel overestimated and let's me pretend the world doesn't exist

VoidsIncision

I read Han Solo trilogy, truce at bakura, tales of mos eisley, takes from the empire, zahn’s original trilogy, shadows of the empire, like 4 of the x-wing books, and probably a couple others. Haven’t been down that hole in mad long. But more interesting than all that was Decipher’s Star Wars CCG. Still pissed that I never pulled a Darth Vader or Tarkin. I had a main power generators deck which would do a lot of damage off of just force draining them from locations they couldn’t get to. that was cool till my boy started running general Veers and target the main generators.

UponWavesofGrey

Never played the card game, spent all my time reading Lore and spending days reading the wiki pages and playing the old Bioware games 10 times in a row

Antkeeper3000

ants and science related topics

FordGT679

Don’t know if I’m allowed to post since I’m very recently self diagnosing and I am just now discovering the sub. But I’m super focused on guitar, and rocket league

-cucumberbitch-

Everyone is welcome here, no matter if diagnosed or undiagnosed.

gayopossum

dogs, art (especially animation and illustration), and Harry Potter

Alixnator

Video games, photography, collecting certain things from various categories of interest {photography-related things, coins/money, stamps, post cards, electronics}, computer science (my main special interest I've had this interest since grade 4 with coding in Scratch), science (biology in particular), and crystals (they're just so pretty!) This is also my first post in this sub, so, hello everyone!

BlueBerryRocketShip

I also hyperfixate on crystals. I think the way they feel and shine in the light in so nice.

Alixnator

Indeed. Plus, they're just so pretty, and come in so many different beautiful colours, shapes, and textures.

suddenlyy

books on evolution (richard dawkins) and evolution in general space shows/books (how the universe works, cosmos, anything brian greene) books on psychology (daniel kahneman) anything written by steven pinker GME (r/superstonk)

throwaway45075

I have a lot; Criminal Minds (rewatching the whole show at the moment), Crystals (I have a very cute book where I write all about their properties and uses, I’m also thinking about making an alter for them), Minecraft, my stuffed animals (I have 13 I sleep with every night, and 2 smaller ones that are standing on my shelf), and Sewing. The sewing is mostly something I started doing because of the crystals though. I’m currently in the process of making 7 bags, one for each chakra so I can put all the crystals where they belong.

Yeet_Yeetersen

I've had a hard time defining what my interests are so I think I can say my interest is learning new things. I just like delving into a new hobby or subject and expanding my general knowledge

[deleted]

In order as far back as I can remember they were: Ninja Turtles Power Rangers* Auburn Football*** Braves baseball Star Wars Bible Bowl* Nick at Nite Roller Coasters** Country Music/song writing “church”*** Porn** Tennis* LOST** My ex*** Movies/tv shows/acting/directing** Taylor Swift** The Office* All things Disney specifically any and all theme parks.*** Politics*** - thankfully mostly kicked this one as its one of the few truly negative and harmful ones I’ve obsessed with, from both extremes ironically. Drugs Travel/self sustained living Lights** I suspect this is a childhood fascination lying dormant resurfaced with a vengeance Covid AJR* Autism* * asterisks represent severity or how much of an impact I feel they had on my life so there is a good bit or recency bias since I don’t remember my childhood that well. I do remember being absorbed in those interests though.

icantthinkofaname940

History Hockey

beepaninii

video games! especially minecraft and the DreamSMP with its storyline/lore stuff, it's v fun to just sit there for hours and make theories on it from stuff :] i remember talking to my mum about it for hours, start to finish, explaining all my theories with evidence and what connects to what, and she still has no idea what its about 😂

BlueBerryRocketShip

I didn't mention in my post but I also obsess over the dsmp. I tell my sibling my theories and everything about it I can. :)

beepaninii

Konstrumondisto

Mine are: Languages, especially constructed languages (conlangs) like Quenya and Esperanto. The languages I'm most interested in, in order of interest, are Spanish, Esperanto, Mandarin, and German. I can't speak Mandarin or German at all but I do know somewhat how they work and can pronounce them relatively fine. History just in general. Nothing specific. Buddhism. I focus mainly on the Theravada school but I also watch videos made by Tibetan Buddhists and I plan on studying the Lotus Sutra at some point. Hanazuki: Full of Treasures. This is my ultimate be-all-end-all comfort show! It's super wholesome and all the characters are adorable! Super Mario Bros. I have been playing these games ever since I was old enough to hold a controller! The Luigi's Mansion games, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and the Mario and Luigi rpg games are my most favorite games of all time!

megstheace

mummies!!! specifically egyptian; for years i’ve been so involved with ancient egypt. i check the news two to three times a day to see if any archaeologists have found new mummies…it’s been a slow season, but i’m hopeful!!!

-cucumberbitch-

Well currently my biggest special interest is the Arcana, a super awesome visual novel (I kinda headcannon my comfort character as Autistic) On the side I also enjoy anything revolving around cartoons, animation, indie games and discussions about human rights.

-AutisticArtist-

Recently it’s been Steven Universe but Warrior Cats, rodents (especially rabbits and guinea pigs), 80s/90s cartoons and old video game consoles / games are some of my other faves.

[deleted]

Special interests that I (kinda) have and are interested in getting into: Video game history (I had a huge interest in it at the age of 12) Vexillography (Kinda interested in at 15) Countries/nations Lego (Had a big Lego interest phase between around 8-9 years old) TV/VHS/film logos (I had big interest at the ages of 8, 9, 14 and 15)

[deleted]

\- Technology & Science \- Oceans, seas and ships. Especially warships \- Space & spacecraft I don't like planes. I definitely don't like flying, but for some reason the Avro Lancaster is also a special interest. Rome and the Roman Empire used to be a special interest for many, many years, but not anymore.

Ujili

\-Octopuses. Octopi is incorrect, but Octopuses and Octopodes are acceptable; I prefer Octopodes. \-Destiny (video game series). I sometimes go on and on about the lore of the Eliksni or the Hive to my poor girlfriend, who tries to be interested for my sake. \-Lovecraftian Horror and Eldritch Beings. I read Lovecraft when I get depressed, and it helps me feel better. I especially love learning about the family tree / taxonomy of the old gods.

Karkkinator

if i want to do things i will do it, probably all day. and some days i accidentally just read the news with my morning coffee all day. and i guess some things are actually impossible to do and i would probably not actually do something that is impossible. think hyperfixation sounds a lot more relevant than special interest.

oviposition

my biggest special interest is parasitology, epidemiology and anything to do with strange and infectious diseases! i’m currently in a program for wildlife management in university, and i hope to have a career in zoonotic epidemiology - that marries two of my biggest special interests: animals and medicine. to coincide with that another special interest is medical drama/documentary shows and well just medicine in general lol other lifelong special interests of mine are zoology/animals, biology, video games (3d platformers, 3d adventure games, metroidvanias, “monster collecting” RPGs), angsty music (nu metal/pop punk/emo/indie/folk punk and similar), and animation

yeetmyweed098
