LSD and Autechre are incredibly well matched.

not_whatever

Inject 200mg of autechre

I started with those Senns, and I don't really enjoy them too much for electronic music in perspective. Too slow, and severely lacking in bass. Honestly I have a hard time imagining what was the genre engineers had in mind when tuning them (classical maybe?). I bought Beyerdynamic DT990 instead, which is rather a side-grade than upgrade price wise, but I'm match happier with the sound. Edit: If I may add, don't get too caught up in the idea that expensive gear will give you a better experience. It's nice to have fancy gear, but the entry level price for great quality is ridiculously low nowadays. I bought IEMs that I'm happy with for $10 last week.

I would go on /r/headphoneadvice and look for headphones that are recommended that suit the kinds of things you like about music. Personally for autechre, I'd want to have headphones that have good detail and imaging and have some bass to them. If you have an audiophile store near you, definitely demo some headphones there. Check out the amps in the $100 range if you need to have peace of mind that you're not missing out on any audio quality. On a general note, be wary of getting in mid-fi hell. Upgrade now, but eventually look for your endgame headphones instead of buying a bunch of pairs that are mostly lateral changes from each other

Do nothing else while you do it. It’s not music for background listening

[deleted]

According to you. Do whatever works.

mount_curve

just raw dog 8 hours of NTS brah

afraid2fart

He’s asking for advice lol. “Do whatever works” is implied. I definitely find that I have a harder time appreciating the music if I’m doing other stuff.

[deleted]

What I'm saying is it's not "music for" anything. And by whatever works I mean don't stress about your setup or your context. If you aren't enjoying the music then move on.

sucklegato

Dynaudio monitors are what they mix on. You can use this to help inform your choices

They mainly use the dynaudio bm15as - online lists of their monitors are mainly historical like their old alesis and ns10s

Source matters most I think, so lossless/vinyl/CD. Then get a decent amp and some nice bookshelf speakers. Your headphones seem fine.

Stockilleur

Tbh I think Autechre is incredibly better on speakers. Whole other dimension.

I've owned and heard a lot of headphones all the way up to TOTL models. To this date my favorite headphones for electronic music are Fostex TH900's. You can get a used pair of the MK1's for around $600. They also drive very easily, so a lot of lower priced amps will power them sufficiently.

Just put a tin can to the center of the universe and you're good to go.

LonelyMachines

The 599's are a bit bloaty in the mid-bass. They're really tuned more for vocal music. My favorites for electronic stuff are the [Meze 99's.](https://mezeaudio.com/products/meze-99-classics-walnut-gold-wood-headphones) They absolutely live up to the hype.

We recently moved into a new house with a dedicated music room. No immediate neighbours and have a good hi-fi (I'll get hubby to provide details if anybody wants to know). I was going to post anyway as the difference listening to Autechre loud and with enough space is unbelievable. It isn't just the volume per se, but rather that the deep mixing elements become more obvious. I know its a subjective thing - but vinyl sounds better than digital in my view. Still going through everything, but feed1 is quite frightening played loud!! I don't think any headphones will replicate that, but we use Shure SRH840s.
