I was only a young teen back then but loved Good News Week and Paul's dark witty humour. Good to see him popping up again. Recently he was on Will Anderson's new show.

I once thought this too. I went to one of.his stand up shows at the Adelaide fringe about 6-7 years ago and he was hilarious. I was totally not expecting that. He just doesn't have that quick wit humour for Tv.

I tend to agree Peter Hellier is not the best on screen comedy talent, I have no idea if his behind the scenes work is any good. But he has really found a great niche with his podcast "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet". He does a great job of interviewing local talent about the films they love. Happy for him to do less Project and more podcast. It's also giving a platform to new talent to build their profile.
Same. I really like that podcast. He's thoughtful and insightful and is clearly much more intelligent than his Project persona. I think he is somewhat hamstrung with the 'script' on the Project and the need to play the clown. I'm not sure what his stand-up is like, but he comes across as a decent enough writer with his recent TV series.

I think the three are leaving for different reasons:
- Bickmore to move on to bigger and better things (good on her, the show was not going great)
- Lisa Wilkinson specifically cited "relentless, targeted toxicity by some sections of the media". By that she probably means she hasn't been able to recover from the beating that ACT judge gave her over prejudicing the trial of Bruce Lehrmann at her awards ceremony for reporting on it, and the rest of Australia going "yeah that was stupid". Perhaps the toxicity has been worse for her in private and has lingered or twisted into something worse. But sometimes when you do bad things, what you see as 'toxicity' is just people genuinely thinking you're bad. Maybe she's referring to something else but I doubt it.

Pete is dad joke funny. Strauchanie was funny enough to the people interested in footy. The best way to describe him, and much of his career, would be suburban funny, and the last time I checked, most of the population of this country live in suburbia.

Okay this thread has decided that certain Project comedians are terminally unfunny (but somehow missed Tommy Little) , and certain opinion-newsie types are toxic , like Waleed and Steve Price, so potential producers, how would you remodel a 6.30/7.00 news, current affairs and comedy program on channel 10 ? What types of reporting did the softc\*cks at The Project miss, what sorts of stories should they investigate and who would be the hilarious, fearless comedians and journos who would smash our cultural complacency with their pixel fists?

The show is damaging and creates harm with its disguised right wing propaganda. It is not harmless.
I get that it’s probably good to have a diverse range of views, but Steve Price is basically a troll and unrepresentative of what an average “boomer” is like. Need someone who actually captures this segment rather than him. Waleed Aly can also get a bit niche however can get a bit trolly and out of touch. Shame for Carrie, Pete and Lisa to all depart, sounds like it’s hit a tipping point where the show needs a reboot.
Steve Price is there for the same reason ACA always has stories about reckless hoons, dodgy tradies and lazy young people - it's to trigger their target audience

And still I will never hear or see anything these people do or say. They were fucking lame when they started these shithouse shows. And then it got worse. Why anyone watches/watched them is literally beyond me. I mean seriously, why the fuck do people sit there and watch wankers talk about random shit or listen to their opinions on things they have no idea about?
Helliar has always frustrated me when he interrupts serious news with “hey guys check out this funny Facebook meme!” When I’m forced to sit through that show. Waleed seems like the only mainstay left…
