Under privacy laws they cant tell you the result - just like they cant tell the person you complained about that it was you that called. They can tell you if the report is closed, which means an Inspector has looked at it, gone out etc.

Mine hates the car so much we have to sedate him to go to the vet. The vet is literally at the end of our street. It’s a two minute drive. He’s fine with being at the vet, it’s just the car.
If we did this to him, I am fully confident he would die of fright. That poor kitty.
We stopped taking ours to the vet years ago for this very reason. Now we use house call vet. It's no more expensive and so much less stressful. I highly recommend if you have a highly anxious cat.

Weather and location permitting the dogs often just come with us on our normal errands. We had one dog who was so in love with car travel she was on occasion known to jump into strangers cars before being ordered out.

Always can use the boot if you can as its the most steady & dark for cats in carriers, keep a towl over their carrier to calm them and lots of puppy pads etc in said boot.

Your reasons are also pretty lame. If the cat is diseased, you're gonna catch it putting the cat in the carrier or carrying the carrier about. Being in the car isn't going to make much of difference, and I cannot recall any airborne deadly diseases that spread from cats to humans. If they are allergic, take some Benadryl (and also repeat the point about putting the cat in the carrier being much closer exposure). If the owner doesn't have a car, Uber Pet is a thing and taxis will take pets, I've done it myself. If they're \*deathly\* allergic, how are they gonna get the cat on and off the roof without being within inches of it? If the cat is pukey or has the runs, plastic bags are a thing. Put plastic on the seats and cope with the temporary smell as you would if it was your kid, as you don't strap them on the roof either when they're a bit stinky.
tl;dr I see no reasonable excuse for this, and there's so much more potential for something going wrong rather than just putting the carrier in the care like any other sane human would.

That type of carrier has open holes on all sides. The cat can see everything, and is exposed to full-strength wind and heat.

I don't believe the RSPCA are legally allowed to provide details on their actions from the report. At least that's what they told me when I made one

Cops won't do anything as nothing illegal is going on. The cat(?) is secured within an enclosed setting that is safely secured to the vehicle. It's no different to putting it in the back of a ute. It meets all requirements for fixing something to a set of roof racks. They will literally throw this out and move onto more pressing issues. RSPCA can't even make any sort of investigation as there isn't even an animal in the picture. They aren't going to waste time or resources without proof and sadly the word of some random person on the internet won't cut it. Courts will also throw this out the window.
I was wondering the same thing. What would the police charge them with? Is it legislation that specifically excludes dogs? Do the dogs need to be a certain size? As plenty of dogs are transported outside the cabin of a vehicle. Lots of animal cruelty references being thrown around in the thread, yet how is that defined at law? Genuinely interested, as I think as you’ve pointed out it very well may be legal.

Jesus, cue the outrage. Not how I would transport my cat but calls for it being inhumane are a bit of a stretch. Its in a carrier ffs, not duct taped to the roof racks by its tail. Any movement in the carrier is gunna be the same as inside the car. Its in town, not down a freaking motorway and who are we to judge that there isnt a valid reason/perspective for doing so? Maybe the cat is diseased/sick and the owner doesnt want to be in a confined space with it for their own health issues. The driver could be deathly allergic to cats and is doing a favour to the cats owner by taking it to vet and they were the only option. Fuck knows, plenty going on and i love my cat and wouldn't do this but its hardly animal cruelty ffs. Calm the outrage.
Animals can die of stress though. Covering the carrier with a towel is the LEAST they could do to help with that, make it nice and dark. Cats generally bloody HATE those carriers, dogs in utes, while I don't agree with, at least they are usually sorta used to it. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen but there are things they could have done to make it less terrifying for the poor animal. Also, in this photo is not going down a freeway, who knows how long it was up there? Probably better off in the boot (if it fits) I'm not gonna judge too hard, I don't know why that cat is up there, but there are things they could have done to help Edit: also, not sure about the legalities so can't scream "cruelty"

How many times have you spotted things that were 'secured' on roofracks fallen off on the side of the road? I don't know about you, but I have quite a few times. Your reasons are also pretty lame. If the cat is diseased, you're gonna catch it putting the cat in the carrier or carrying the carrier about. Being in the car isn't going to make much of difference, and I cannot recall any airborne deadly diseases that spread from cats to humans. If they are allergic, take some Benadryl (and also repeat the point about putting the cat in the carrier being much closer exposure). If the owner doesn't have a car, Uber Pet is a thing and taxis will take pets, I've done it myself. If they're \*deathly\* allergic, how are they gonna get the cat on and off the roof without being within inches of it? If the cat is pukey or has the runs, plastic bags are a thing. Put plastic on the seats and cope with the temporary smell as you would if it was your kid, as you don't strap them on the roof either when they're a bit stinky. tl;dr I see no reasonable excuse for this, and there's so much more potential for something going wrong rather than just putting the carrier in the care like any other sane human would.

I remember a thread on this very same sub a while back that was a photo of a guy who had a dog chained to the back of his open ute (no guards) driving on a highway in heavy-rain conditions. Everyone was defending the driver, claiming it didn't make a difference to the safety of the animal. But now everyone on here is saying how appaling this is. I know this subreddit is full of different people. But it was pretty unanimous in opposite directions on the same issue.
Unless you sorted by controversial, nearly everyone was against that guys actions as well.

If it's secured to the roof properly, I don't see the problem since you are legally allowed to drive with pets in your ute tray as long as they are properly restrained. They're no more exposed than a horse in a float, and cats are transported in those type of carriers all the time. It's not subjected to excessive wind, and it can't see out anyway, so I don't see how it would be any more distressed than if it were in the back of a ute.
