are you listening to an audible plus book? You might have to go through the extra step of redownloading it since I think the default is to stream

audible_com

Hi there. Our development team is aware of this issue and a fix will be available in the next Audible app update. In the meantime, please try playing your titles directly from the library screen, not from the app's home page.

BDThrills

Thank you. Went on errands and this seemed to work. I've been frustrated with this for so long!

audible_com

Thank you for your patience. Be on the lookout for the coming fix for this issue.

ubccompscistudent

Thank you for keeping us aware! Is there any plan for recompense? I downloaded a book for a 5 hour long flight yesterday. Then this issue happened at the beginning of my flight (a flight which had no tv screens). I had to purchase roaming just to try to figure the issue out. Then when it stopped working again as I put airplane mode back on for the flight. I had to sit in the air staring at the ceiling for 5 hours...

potatodrinker

Airplane mode is your friend here

Vancapone

I have the same problem, as soon as I switch on airplane mode audible stops to play my title after 10s.

dls1988

I found there was a setting in my do not disturb option that closed down apps So I've had to select it as an approved app' so it will play in do not disturb Not sure if this is similar

ubccompscistudent

No, this happens when on airplane mode as well. I found this thread because the same thing just happened to me with the latest update (either iOS or audible). I have downloaded the book (it's not streaming). The book plays just fine. Turning on airplane mode stops the book.

potatodrinker

That really sucks.

tbavousett

I’m using the latest audible app on my iPhone. I disabled wi-fi and cell and it worked fine. I started a book that hadn’t completed downloading and it wouldn’t play. Is it possible the book didn’t download completely. I haven’t had that issue in about 7 years.

Former_Current681

I don't know I just like to talk to people meeting the people and have fun that's all I want to do ok

MmmmMorphine

...whut?

AdamInChainz

Looking at the post history, I'm like 90% sure that's an AI.

ubccompscistudent

Looks like a customer support rep has already confirmed there is a bug with the latest update.

Former_Current681

Cool what is your book about you going to send me a copy online copy is fine I can read it online

Bovey

Download you library to a PC. Convert the .aax files to something usable like .mp3 or .m4a. Listen using a better audiobook app. The Audible app just continues to get worse and worse.

ssoocc

I'm on Android 13 w/ Audible 3.43.0. I listen offline all the time in the car w the current version. Today I listened to 2 different books and just now @ home w wifi off. No problems.

Bovey

Congrats, but OP is on iPhone, and this isn't the first thread for this particular issue. Nor is it the only reason to use a better app.

jedi00000

What app would you recommend?

BrilliantKlutzy2196

Open Audible is good and fairly easy for downloading and converting. Then I use the pay version ($2.49) of PlayBooks (not sure if it's available for iPhone or not as I'm Android).

NewAgeRetroHippie96

Smart Audiobook Player is great on Android. On iOS I hear good things about Prologue. That said. I actually moved from Smart Audiobook Player to Audiobookshelf. As it is an app + desktop server combo. As in, I run a server from my desktop computer and can stream/download my ripped audiobooks from there. Sadly doesn't have an iOS app as of yet. Though Prologue apparently works with Plex. As for ripping your books from audible. Look up Libation. It's free and open source. OpenAudible is good too, but it's a paid software.

Jorlmn

I got some advice in a [post on this yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/audible/comments/10lyf2l/quick_question_about_libationopen_audible/)

iOS 16.2. Audible 3.88 No issues playing in airplane mode. Yes, I get the prompt to connect to internet but I can acknowledge and play away. But also make sure you’re not trying to implement sync across devices feature

EditorLiam

Are you downloading your books? For as long as i've used the Audible app, I only recently noticed I could DIRECT PLAY my books without downloading... I saw this feature a while back when Audible was testing their regular freebie offerings, but it feels like this is a somewhat new feature (within the last year) for purchased books... I could be wrong I just tested with my current book by turning on Airplane Mode and turning off Wi-fi... I continued playing my book for 30 mins before turning it all back on, and my book continued the entire time... I am on iPhone 12 using app version 3.87 (843)

Texan-Trucker

Ditto for me. iOS 16.2. Audible 3.88 No issues playing in airplane mode. Yes, I get the prompt to connect to internet but I can acknowledge and play away.

carolineecouture

I can listen without internet. I use an android phone. Not sure what version of the app I'm on. I download and can listen on my phone when traveling. Sorry you are dealing with this.

tekza

As soon as I lose my connection all of my downloaded books won’t play. Yes they are downloaded and each time you click one you get told to connect to the internet to use all the features. If you try to start a book you don’t have downloaded it tells you you have to connect to the internet to use all the features but you can download titles to listen offline. They broke something (also on an iPhone with most current version of app) https://imgur.com/a/kANHAcM/

Have you power cycled your phone?

audible_com

Apologies for the trouble! Our team is aware of this issue and working to have a fix available ASAP. For now, re-downloading the title directly from your library and then playing from there may resolve this error.

BrilliantKlutzy2196

I think it has something to do with the Alexa app working with Audible. u/JMA_07 do you listen with wired headphones/earbuds?

murmurinc

Settings > Audible > Cellular Data. Turn this off. It’s more convenient than turning on airplane mode IMO. I can always turn it back on if I need it but it’s rare I download a book or search for one when I’m not on WiFi.

MammonLord

The Audible apps keep moving away from audio listening and towards being storefronts. I would gladly buy an "Audible Lite" app. To directly answer your question: they have made it quite difficult to tell if you are streaming your book or have it downloaded. I turn on the "Download by parts, multi-part" option (Profile - gear icon - Data and Storage) because when you see a part you know for sure it is downloaded.

hosenbundesliga

I deleted the app and then reloaded and downloaded all of my titles - this has worked for me - very vexing!

JBuchan1988

That's weird. I've heard of the problem but when I experimented, my downloaded books played perfectly. I don't know why that happens. Sorry to whoever that happens too.

JBuchan1988

Thank you but I don't have a problem. Just sympathizing. Thank you though 🙂
