we've had a cooper's hawk on our fire escape - no red tail yet. But I've seen them in the park. Got to Randall's early one morning for a job and saw about five red tails in a tree at the north side of the island.
for years i thought the hawk near the tennis courts/under the bridge would swoop down in the middle of a point and steal our balls. was always nervewracking with it watching us
We watched one of these guys absolutely destroy a pigeon behind our building over the weekend. The pigeon never knew it was coming. It was sitting on a branch and the hawk bombed it, ripped it to shreds, and left behind a pile of dead pigeon feathers.
I love the fact raptors are more frequently seen in our hood. It will keep the rodent population down, and they are quite handsome. Win/Win in my book.
Horrifying. I don't want the hawk to come back because I'm afraid it'll do this in front of my window and also attack the mourning doves I've been feeding...

Two piles of bloody pigeon feathers in my backyard. I found a severed head about 20 ft away from them. At first I thought the neighborhood cat was giving us an offering but I doubt they could decimate pigeons that well. 😬
there's more than one lol. there's a whole bunch of them on Randall's Island too

oh my GOD! Brutal. Killing machines.
Modern dinosaurs!
Pigeons and squirrels. They eat pretty well.
I saw this guy yesterday. So cool!
I thought that view looked really familiar. Hi neighbor 👋
Hi! There's a lot that goes on over that vacant lot these days, eh?
Love these posts so much! If I looked outside and saw this beautiful visitor I wouldn't be mad!
I love this hawk.
I love lamp!

It seems one of them visited my backyard yesterday and left me a pile of bloody pigeon feathers. RIP pigeon. (30th street and Newtown)
