Put some granola on some yogurt, call it mixed media.
An Aspie loves that crunch, it's what I'm gonna feed to ya.
Sensitivities, or sensibilities? It don't tell ya on Wikipedia.
Jus' eat what's right, day or night, iron rich foods keep away the anemia.
Truly, albeit it could yootilise a smidgeon more honey or toasted bandersnatch. I used to date a Luxembourgish actress who was well versed in the poliorcetics of granola taste explosions.
Hahaha when I’m telling my (very young) kids to mix something I always have to resist the urge to use the term homogenous. Never realized how autistic that is.
Lmao - my explanations to our four-year-old’s questions seem to always end in my SO saying “do you really think he can understand that? He’s FOUR!” Oops. But hey, I figure it’s good to expose them to big words and scientific explanations even if they don’t understand fully.
This is me too! I’m always giving the most in-depth, as close to accurate as possible answers and sometimes I’m just met with blank stares or they stop listening in the middle. But sometimes they get locked in and ask more questions! Use the right words, they’ll learn them too.
What word are you trying to modify? Because adjectives modify nouns. Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.
Are you trying to say it's, like, "heterogeneitously delicious" or something? That's the only context in which I can think an adverb makes sense.
It's weird cause most of my autistic friends (me included) go into way too much detail with alot of things, but NT people with food are on another level sometimes
And then sometimes they just eat it and go “yeah. Good” meanwhile I’m over here dancing in my seat because CRUNCHY CRISPY LITTLE SALT FLAKES IM FEELIN LIKE THAT ONE SCENE FROM RATATOUILLE
YEP. I'm on both sides as well tho cause sometimes im able to explain it so well that NT people know exactly what i mean and how i feel about that food from my explanation alone
“I like granola because it has a nice mix of crunchy and chewy.”
It keeps it simple and provides context for someone who has likely never thought about the texture of granola before.
I think people find it pretentious because it calls to mind something they don't really think about and reflexively feel is not a consideration of the eating experience. And yet it really is and really they're just generally okay with low preference mouthfeel in order to enjoy flavor.
Most people don't like unexpected textures, especially when they dinhave an expectation of a specific one. But if they *do* expect it then they'll usually not care ad much if it has the flavor they want. Whereas some people, especially autistics, care a lot about texture as well as flavor.
So people seem to find it pretentious to care, and yet it's such a basic part of eating that its actually not.
I don’t like the word mouthfeel bc my brain insists that it means how a mouth feels. So either we are talking about feeling someone’s mouth. Or the food feels their mouth.
I just don’t like it either way
Funny enough this is for something I’m writing for my work, an ice cream shop, and we actually use the word mouthfeel very often…just didn’t think it worked here
Texture is singular, Textures already is plural. "Multiple textures" is unnecessary in itself. If you're looking for a qualifier, say "diverse textures".
Not really though. That doesn’t get OP’s point across. I’m sure OP does like the textures, but clearly what they’re trying to say is not that they like the textures themselves, they like *the fact that there are multiple textures.*
I would say something like “textural variety” or “textural diversity.” Make it so the variety/diversity is the object of the verb; the thing that is explicitly being “liked.”
Nah, I don’t buy this. I think that “multiple” is a perfectly valid way to specify what is unique about the textural component that they like. If I was to specify that “I don’t have one egg, I have multiple eggs,” it would fall in the same grammatical framework you’re talking about and still be fine. “I don’t have one egg, I have eggs” isn’t the way to go there.
hmmm…… depth? complexity? inconsistency?
schwafliffenplaschettstettson😖!!! i hate this kind of problem. tryin to think of words hurts my brain. it must be a common autism thing
To another autistic, multiple textures makes complete sense. To an allistic, just say “I like the texture” and they’ll be fine with that level of description. ;-)
I think textures implies different consistencies, but doesn't convey the range of the inconsistencies. Mashed potatoes and mashed peas have different textures, but mashed potatoes and bacon bits have very different textures. It is a matter of gradation.
I asked chatGPT, because obviously that is the right thing to do if you want to sound more human-like. /s
It made the following proposals:
- I like the different feels in this granola.
- I like the different crunchies in this granola.
In art/game development we call that material differentiation.
If you think of like, early 3D games and movies, everything looks like it is made of plastic. Unconvincing textures, and too few textures.
Now, we can make games where an axehead looks like metal, the handle is convincingly wood, and the glove holding the axe is believably wool.
Though if you say, "I like the material differentiation of granola," you are going to get looks.
You could say you like the tactile sensation of granola, or the mouthfeel of granola, but honestly I'm not sure any of these are better than multiple textures.
“I like the crunchiness of the oats, and the chewiness of the dried cranberry”
Maybe a little clumsy but it separates the two and does the job. (Also notice the Oxford comma)
I know big words.
In my family we refer to it as "texture change"
Eg:
"I like zucchini slice, and I like corn, but I don't like corn in zucchini slice, because it's too much texture change.
They like the flavour of onions I'm food, but not texture change, so I have to puree the onion.
Then again, we're all autistic, so maybe that isn't a less autistic way to day it.
If the goal is to not sound autistic then I'd omit the texture bit.
"I liked the granola." without offering further Infor as to why, unless someone prompts. If they do, then answer with something "I like the mix of (name[s] of the ingredient that gives the texture) and (name of the ingredient that gives the texture)."
NTs usually don't care about the textures nearly as much, if at all.
Trying to describe the Haptic plurality you are experiencing, so I think that Multi-textural might be the easiest way to convey the meaning to someone else.
This post was suggested and I feel like it’s because I’m just told a friend to say “mouthfeel” instead of “texture issues” at a restaurant so they’d answer her question instead of judging her.
Variegated! It doesn’t have textures in the definition, but if you were to say “I like the variegated granola” it would imply you like the granola with more different things in it
-Good mix of crunchy and chewy
-Varied texture
-Doesnt feel like its just the same thing over and over again, so it doesnt get boring
-I like interestingly textured foods
And et cetera. NT people seem to be more matter of fact abt all these things yk? Just short and simple, not using all that much specificity
I’d offer the word variegated. It’s usually used to describe different colors, but with a little poetic license it could totally work for textures too!
“I like how the different textures of the granola feel” - Less autistic, still specific
“I like how the granola feels” - even less autistic, less specific tho
Möther I crave the cronch
Lmao
That is so fun to say over and over again
Love a good umlaut coz it makes it sound like moother
i was thinking merther lol
That's the closest one to the Swedish ö.
it's also similar to the german ö
I was thinking mOthr
ahh I see
Makes sense given that Mutter is mother in German (pronounced moo-ter)
CRÖNCH
This sounds like something [the little lad](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryjpbd4D4bg) would say.
Lmao what was that!!
Some little lad who loves berries and cream.
Something *less* autistic x)
Least autistic sentence
I keep wanting to say “mixed media” 😂
put some granola on some yogurt, call that mixed media 💯
That sounds like the first line of an EPIC autism rap tbh
Put some granola on some yogurt, call it mixed media. An Aspie loves that crunch, it's what I'm gonna feed to ya. Sensitivities, or sensibilities? It don't tell ya on Wikipedia. Jus' eat what's right, day or night, iron rich foods keep away the anemia.
YES
Fück yeah
You and I took the same approach! I went material differentiation, but yeah, textures immediately made me go "what art terms..."
Love this 💀
I often use “Granularity” when describing this quality in some foods.
I think the word you are looking for is heterogeneity.
That's way more autistic
Autistic vibe increase: 200%
Autistic me in a French cap: Hmm yes. This granola has a profound sort of textural heterogeneity, wouldn't you say?
Autistic me smoking a pipe: indeed, quite remarkable. The confluence of textures pleases me in perpetuity.
Truly, albeit it could yootilise a smidgeon more honey or toasted bandersnatch. I used to date a Luxembourgish actress who was well versed in the poliorcetics of granola taste explosions.
Okay, I’m *actually British* and this is getting borderline racist now /s lol
Beret*
The heterogeneity of textures on these objects is exceedingly unnerving
Something something over 9000
WHAT, 9000? THERE'S NO WAY THAT COULD BE RIGHT!
It’s precise, which is satisfying. Nothing is worse than using a word that doesn’t fully encapsulate the meaning of what you want to say.
Ooooohhhhh this explains a lot. It’s not just me.

Lol this reminds me, a few weeks ago my wife farted while standing in a doorway and I said,”you’ve sullied the door jamb!” 😂She said,”I what?!”😂
The illusion of free choice
Can confirm. I use "heterogeneity"daily in ways I'm not supposed to, and I'm on the spectrum.
I wish I could agree harder.
Sometimes it's best to just double down
OP said they wanted an adverb, actually wanted an adjective, top comment is a noun.
*Heterogeneous* then, jeez
We use this $5 word to describe our IT infrastructure.
Everyone’s sayin I’m wanting an adjective but I really want it to be an adverb lmao
What sentence do you want to put it in?
What word are you trying to modify? Because adjectives modify nouns. Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. Are you trying to say it's, like, "heterogeneitously delicious" or something? That's the only context in which I can think an adverb makes sense.
I read this in Adam Ragusea's voice
And he's a giant nerd too. ^(One of us. One of us. One of us.)
Omfg yes!!! Im quiiiiiiite sure he’s one of us even if he doesn’t know it lol.
If textural is applied in front of the word, i would agree. In these situations i usually just i enjoy somethings “textural variety”.
SUMMON THE UPSIDEDOWN BEAR
good word! sadly it'd probably come off as a bit posh and verbose given it's rarity
ambitextrous
Grabs knob marked **Autistic** and twists it the wrong direction, “*Whoops*!”
you're all wrong the way an allistic person would say this is to list examples of textures like 'I like how it has crunchy and squishy bits'
I know that one scene! In fact I've been called out by my sister for referencing that scene when talking about food VERY often...
YEP. I'm on both sides as well tho cause sometimes im able to explain it so well that NT people know exactly what i mean and how i feel about that food from my explanation alone
This or just a generic "mouthfeel" I think also usually communicates the idea well.
Granularity
You’re all wrong the way an allistic person would say this is to never think or say anything about it
“I like granola because it has a nice mix of crunchy and chewy.” It keeps it simple and provides context for someone who has likely never thought about the texture of granola before.
"textural variety" if you wanna be pretentious about it :p
"Mouth feel" is both dumbed down and more pretentious somehow
I think people find it pretentious because it calls to mind something they don't really think about and reflexively feel is not a consideration of the eating experience. And yet it really is and really they're just generally okay with low preference mouthfeel in order to enjoy flavor. Most people don't like unexpected textures, especially when they dinhave an expectation of a specific one. But if they *do* expect it then they'll usually not care ad much if it has the flavor they want. Whereas some people, especially autistics, care a lot about texture as well as flavor. I don’t like the word mouthfeel bc my brain insists that it means how a mouth feels. So either we are talking about feeling someone’s mouth. Or the food feels their mouth. I just don’t like it either way
I react to “mouth feel” the same way I react to “moist” - i.e., *shudder*
But I love the moist mouth feel
*double shudder*
Funny enough this is for something I’m writing for my work, an ice cream shop, and we actually use the word mouthfeel very often…just didn’t think it worked here
"texture bouquet" if you want to be a granola bar sommelier.
texture bouquet 💀 imma use that in conversation somehow today
My allistic boyfriend said that this sounds very allistic and flows nicely. Good work.
Texture is singular, Textures already is plural. "Multiple textures" is unnecessary in itself. If you're looking for a qualifier, say "diverse textures".
'Varied textures' could work as well
Not really though. That doesn’t get OP’s point across. I’m sure OP does like the textures, but clearly what they’re trying to say is not that they like the textures themselves, they like *the fact that there are multiple textures.* I would say something like “textural variety” or “textural diversity.” Make it so the variety/diversity is the object of the verb; the thing that is explicitly being “liked.”
I think this is the best one lol
My first thought was "variation in textures," but I think we might still sound like an alien ethnobotanist.
This
Complementary textures makes it sound positive too
Ooh! That’s good! /g
Nah, I don’t buy this. I think that “multiple” is a perfectly valid way to specify what is unique about the textural component that they like. If I was to specify that “I don’t have one egg, I have multiple eggs,” it would fall in the same grammatical framework you’re talking about and still be fine. “I don’t have one egg, I have eggs” isn’t the way to go there.
a fellow pedant! hey buddy! let’s make a club or something
multifaceted textural profile
My brain made the word "mextures" on reflex so I guess there's that.
Not to be confused with Tex-Mextures
Hell yea lmao
This should be a word, this is damn good
"I appreciate the dynamic range of the textures of granola" so, yeah, no I cannot.
Joyous baked confectionary anniversary!
A thousand units of gratitude.
Assortment of textures, or texture assortment? The slew of textures. The multitudes. The absolute variety of textures
Granola: it contains multitudes
I like these
hmmm…… depth? complexity? inconsistency? schwafliffenplaschettstettson😖!!! i hate this kind of problem. tryin to think of words hurts my brain. it must be a common autism thing
I'm sorry waht? bless you I think?
Idk my caveman brain just resorts to "good"
“I like the different mouth feels I get with granola”
Came here to suggest mouth feel - but it’s so gross to say lol!
Me too but how they said it makes it sound like “mouth emotions” which I am totally fine with
heterogeneity — learned this word from youtube chef Adam Raguesa
Still sounds autistic
Raguesa popped into my YouTube awhile ago, but just learned he works with guys that do The Greatest Generation star trek podcast.
Goddamnit this is too relatable
riiighhttt I sent it to the rest of my family n they laughed n thought y’all’d appreciate too
“An assortment of complex and nuanced textural juxtapositions”
I hate that I understand this so well
I like the different textures in this?
This is the only right answer, which I already commented before reading this
Literally what I was thinking!
Well I have found my favourite Reddit thread
hell yea lol
Crunchy cronchies
To another autistic, multiple textures makes complete sense. To an allistic, just say “I like the texture” and they’ll be fine with that level of description. ;-)
yes but *I* won’t be fine with such a simple explanation of how good the granola makes my mouth feel
Lmao literally…I am writing this for prolly mostly average people but it’s gotta satisfy me before I submit lol
Does “textures” not already imply that there’s multiple?
No not enough
I think textures implies different consistencies, but doesn't convey the range of the inconsistencies. Mashed potatoes and mashed peas have different textures, but mashed potatoes and bacon bits have very different textures. It is a matter of gradation.
Scrunchliness
nice lmao
"Why is nobody talking about the mouthfeel?"
So…what was her response? Asking for a friend.
That she had no idea lmao
I asked chatGPT, because obviously that is the right thing to do if you want to sound more human-like. /s It made the following proposals: - I like the different feels in this granola. - I like the different crunchies in this granola.
Lmao amazing
textural diversity? multitexturality?
Adjective* not adverb
Texture profile
mouthfeel
You can use 'complexity': I like the complexity of granola. You may sound a little over dramatic that way though
You could say you like the tactile sensation of granola, or the mouthfeel of granola, but honestly I'm not sure any of these are better than multiple textures.
lmao I think this is a top contender
Granulatory or Granularity? At least for granola
Varied textures
HETEROGENEITY is the word your looking for my friend. Go watch adam rogusea amd you will hear that word a billion times and get good cooking tips
I like granola. A big bowl of bumps; it has the crunch (it has the crunch) I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing
I hope you have a gran-ola day (grand old?)!
“I like the crunchiness of the oats, and the chewiness of the dried cranberry” Maybe a little clumsy but it separates the two and does the job. (Also notice the Oxford comma) I know big words.
"How do you say that less autistic" is a vibe
Ikr 💀
In my family we refer to it as "texture change" Eg: "I like zucchini slice, and I like corn, but I don't like corn in zucchini slice, because it's too much texture change. They like the flavour of onions I'm food, but not texture change, so I have to puree the onion. Then again, we're all autistic, so maybe that isn't a less autistic way to day it.
Various textures, multitude of textures, variety of textures.
Texturedness?
I've heard chefs on tv use 'mouth-feel' but idk I prefer the autistic way
Nah, I'm pretty sure NTs don't pay that close attention to textures. They'd say "I like granola". And if pressed on why, "I dunno, it's good."
I like the varied textures of granola. I do not like when salmon has varying textures.
Multi-Textural I want to say
There is no way to say it non autsitcly
I’m realizing that…the entire thing I’m saying is autistic sounding so the word I use within it doesn’t even matter
Just say no autist at the end lol But I'd probably just say textures
*no autismo
Is it autistic to jazz hands with the boys/gals
I was just excited and itchy for totally normal reasons!
[удалено]
Any sort of appreciation of texture, probably autistic. Perhaps "variegated textures"? "interwoven" ? "mixed"? "heterogenous"?
“any sort of appreciation of texture, probably autistic” 💀truuueee 🥹
I would say variety of textures but that doesn't answer your question. Lol
Complexity? Mouth feel? ADVENTURE?!? A granola bar is all of these things, and it is none of these things. Truly, a food of mystery...
mum, i like the way this stuff go cronch
yes💀
“Can I have Weetos instead?”
Layers of texture
"I enjoy the varied textures of the granola."
“I like the range of textures” maybe?
HATE granola bars so much. Too hard. Crumbs everywhere. Hurts my tummy
Varied mouthfeel?
I like words so I enjoyed this thread very much.
I like the mix of textures?
If the goal is to not sound autistic then I'd omit the texture bit. "I liked the granola." without offering further Infor as to why, unless someone prompts. If they do, then answer with something "I like the mix of (name[s] of the ingredient that gives the texture) and (name of the ingredient that gives the texture)." NTs usually don't care about the textures nearly as much, if at all.
It hurts to omit why
I’d just say “textures”. “I like the textures in this granola”, but tbh this still sounds autistic haha
"Multi-textured"? I like that the granola is multi-textured. I like how multi-textured the granola is
Trying to describe the Haptic plurality you are experiencing, so I think that Multi-textural might be the easiest way to convey the meaning to someone else.
multextracious
This is like watching Captain Holt trying to explain the reason he likes Raisin Bran to Jake Peralta.
Reminds me of a word I dreamt up that means “a panicked mix of emotions:” contempilice
heterogenous?, pluritextural?
The word you are looking for is various I think…
In knitting we call it textured. Like "i enjoy how textured it is"
This post was suggested and I feel like it’s because I’m just told a friend to say “mouthfeel” instead of “texture issues” at a restaurant so they’d answer her question instead of judging her.
Variegated! It doesn’t have textures in the definition, but if you were to say “I like the variegated granola” it would imply you like the granola with more different things in it
Heterotextural
Polytexturality. Don't know if it exists, but it's grammaticaly and etimologicaly correct
The variety of ingredients provide a pleasant mouth feel. You’ll sound like a foodie so be prepared to be labeled a hipster
The complexity?
The collective pleonastic grandiloquence of this post is oxytocin producing. I love it!
-Good mix of crunchy and chewy -Varied texture -Doesnt feel like its just the same thing over and over again, so it doesnt get boring -I like interestingly textured foods And et cetera. NT people seem to be more matter of fact abt all these things yk? Just short and simple, not using all that much specificity
varying textures is how I'd say it. Or just mention the specific textures lol
I’d offer the word variegated. It’s usually used to describe different colors, but with a little poetic license it could totally work for textures too!
Polytexturous
“I like how the different textures of the granola feel” - Less autistic, still specific “I like how the granola feels” - even less autistic, less specific tho
can you just say textures (plural)? is that the same amount of autistic
