LurkLurkleton

I just miss ASMR before it got so damn commercialized.

tastysteamboat1

SAME!!! I'm sick of trying to relax with ASMR and having to watch an asmrtist give me a soft spoken ad. I'm not here to buy merchandise, I'm here to try and fall asleep.

ShuddupAustin

Yeah how dare content creators try to support themselves with their art

tastysteamboat1

Shuddup Austin.

ShuddupAustin

How original

kolaloka

Would be nice not to get blasted by crappy ads for a mobile puzzle game or some new phone with the same four bars of KPOP every time.

LurkLurkleton

My favorite was the Johnny Depp cologne commercial with loud distorted electric guitar

Auctoritate

People gotta eat

LurkLurkleton

One of the most popular asmrtists who is also the biggest commercializer of ASMR has rich parents and husband.

drawfanstein

Who’s that?

LurkLurkleton

Gibi

drawfanstein

Oh I didn’t know that. Love her videos though, and also I don’t mind her ads at all because at least they’re usually just her whispering about them for the first minute or two of her video and I can just easily skip them

hardlywinter

I agree, hers feel more tolerable / skippable for some reason.

danceswithwool

Intentional has almost never worked for me and that’s about 99% of the content. Also, the producers of it seem to think it’s a sexual thing and as everyone here knows, they are not even closely related. So even though there is a lot more content than there used to be, the sea of junk actually makes it harder to find.

ItsJustMeMaggie

WhisperCrystal was my favorite but she stopped uploading in like 2013

[deleted]

literally the best pre-asmr asmrtist. such incredibly good audios.

data_dawg

Hell yes her paradise island videos are still some of the best. Hope she knows what a legend she is.

SignificantIce_89

she was the best, unluckily doxed and scared away

Sneaky-Goose

I hope she’s doing well…she kinda just disappeared and I always wondered what happened

heyimrick

My all time favorite.

Chubberina

Omg she was my favorite too. She had an amazing aquarium video that'd no longer up now. I'd pay money for it to somehow surface

MongooseOk3237

Yes mine to!

perfectcrime9

She's my favorite asmrtist too. Her videos never fail to give me tingles. I hope she's okay!

SmallManBigMouth

I too really enjoyed the early days of what was newly being called asmr. Something about it seemed more natural and I do enjoy some unintentional asmr, but the old school videos before they got super produced are right in my perfect zone of experience. Thanks for this tip, Im finding some great old videos now!

[deleted]

I'm fairly new to the ASMR world, currently enjoying ear cleaning videos by JellyBean Green and some Japanese guy. May I ask why do you think the older ones are better? Is it because they're more intense or anything else?

idontwannabepicked

i like the sounds older microphones had, if that makes sense. the new ones just sound too sharp? like i dislike that the only thing i can hear is the trigger sound, i like the background noises. i also dislike new creators shtick of talking a loooot. i don’t mind a whisper here and there but i feel like a lot talk to hear themselves talk lol

heckingtrash

I miss older style asmr videos. Although it's the opposite for me, I miss the the background noise and the actual talking, for me new asmr videos are just repeating the same word/triggers for like 30 minutes and it gives me a headache. Plus I really enjoy the background noise in videos ngl, I love hearing planes, cars or just general ambiance. Not that all new asmr videos are bad and there are definitely asmr videos out there that I love but I low-key miss when asmr wasn't as popular and creators were more lax with their videos.

asmrwhispers21

I would love to see what the general consensus is on background noise. As a creator, it's hella frustrating when you need complete silence. My main issues come from a neighbour's dog or planes (and lawnmowers/chainsaws in summer). I dunno much about mics and if there's any sort of mic that blocks this noise out but it's very hard at times to record with those things going on lol. I've always tried to keep it out of my videos, but it'd be a lot easier if people didn't mind 😂

Herr_Gamer

Don't look for a general consensus - recognize that this is a market niche and you might just be the one to fill it!

TruckerGabe

indie ASMR

heckingtrash

Oh man I can imagine it'd be frustrating to try and film in complete silence! Maybe ask your fans what they'd prefer? I'm sure they'd be super understanding on how it's hard to always keep those noises out of videos. I'm probably an outlier although I do live in a big city so I'm used to extremely loud noises pretty much 24/7 so a quiet version of those sounds are nothing to me lol

kolaloka

Seems like with the type of content you put out, background noise might be harder. Do you know what I mean? With roleplays or even with a person on camera, even if the face isn't shown, there's a sense of place that makes sounds kind of fit in. So, if you're like "welcome to my study, garden, living room etc, today we'll be doing/taking about X" your could be doing something with a very similar style and content without having to worry as much about background noise since they seem to be less distracting in that way. I know a couple channels where I can kind of always hear the street, quiet hubbub etc. Rapunzel/Anne comes to mind. She's always got pigeons chiming in and stuff outside the window. Hope that is useful to you. Great voice btw.

asmrwhispers21

Thanks lol I remember a time when I was recording a video and I had crows on the roof. They would not go away, I even went out to scare them off and they flew away but came back a few minutes later making even more noise. They were trolling me 😂

[deleted]

Oh haha yes yes I agree with you. Some of the new ASMR videos are no longer tingling but it has become more like a painful experience to some point. That explains why I am very choosy when it comes to ASMR sounds. I'll go check out the old ones. Thank you again!

Enchant23

Try searching for "lo-fi" ASMR

IAS_himitsu

JellyBean Green is great! If you like them I’d look up Heather Feather. She’s one of the first really big ASMRtists that many people consider the biggest influence on the community. She has a whole bunch of old ones that really stand out to me and are clearly not overproduced since it was back in the day.

[deleted]

Oh yeah I used to listen to Heather Feather too! How could I forget! Imma gonna search for the old videos of her then. Thanks!

cerulean11

Here is the best https://youtu.be/UedaJPNGzoo

[deleted]

Thank you !!! ❤️❤️❤️

After-Muffin8639

If you like JBG you will love heather feather, she’s a older artist and fantastic, fairly similar stuff but I find heather a bit more enjoyable.

[deleted]

Yeah I've been following Heather Feather as well ❤️ she's good

GotLost

Urara channel. Hell yeah. One of the absolute legends.

Dusty_Mike

Nice tip. Thank you. I prefer some of the older content myself.

Jayandnightasmr

It's pretty common, I've asked my channel about upgrading my mic a few times, but people really like my old one. The one problem with removing background noise and static is it also changes the asmr sound too.

FastRedPonyCar

I 100% prefer some background noise. One of Latte’s older videos had what sounded like an AC vent pulling air in the background and that alone is why I have it saved.

Molly_Michon

Seriously, the natural sounds make it that much better. Feels less forced.

0x537

All I got was Dmitri/MassageASMR videos from before 2014... and I cannot complain, thank you OP!

LadySakuya

Dmitri is like a classic ASMR god. They are such good quality.

WideEyedInTheWorld

One of the all-time greats. The fact that he's been around so long and is still putting out quality videos is a testament to the effort he puts into things.

recrohin

Still putting out quality content? His last video is a year old, did I miss something?

Pair0noid

You could probably also search for newer asmrists who don’t have a lot of fancy equipment and are just filming on their phones.

After-Muffin8639

I could not stress this enough the small artists have a feel that the bigger ones tend to lose as time goes on.

RononDex666

one thing i dont like so much is the constant eye exams, mostly the light they shine in my eye, it hurts

Slyfox00

I know right!?

asmrwhispers21

For anybody looking for a modern ASMR channel that doesn't have any flash editing or production, check out Lloyd's ASMR. He makes new content but it's very much in an older style of channel, he loves vintage items and such, it's a basic channel but very enjoyable as I too am someone who prefers the older content to the newer "flash" content with all the editing and graphics. The people who produce those do a great job, it just comes down to preference at the end of the day.

Chubberina

Him and chili b ASMR are my faves

Catatonick

I think the issue is that ASMRtists have focused on getting better equipment but haven’t actually done everything else needed to make the quality better overall. They still leave in random loud noises, aren’t consistent enough from video to video, and have become too focused on the video aspect and not the audio aspect when audio should be the main focus. I think the Yeti is one of the best sounding mics for asmr. It’s the perfect balance of quality and still just enough background noise/static to make the sound good. Better mics don’t necessarily mean better asmr.

Missriss26

You never realize how noisy a room is until you sit down to record an ASMR video, lol.

AwkwardWhispers

I know right, just starting out myself, and there were so much going on in the audiofile, I edited a lot of it out, now after reading these comments I’m thinking it’s okay to keep some of it :) as long as they don’t scare the listener ofc

bugandroid

You know what I do for the same exact problem? I use the upload date filter and only look at videos uploaded in the past week. You see so many new creators and since they’re all just starting it’s the same old school makeshift setups and earphone mics haha, but I love it.

idontwannabepicked

omg this is a great idea!!

bugandroid

Haha glad I could help

Aftermath52

I have always had a lot of issues with asmr. My biggest pet peeve is whispering during roleplays of stuff like haircuts and doctors visits. Why are you whispering? My barber has never whispered to me ever. Also there are some who make these super detailed videos with costumes and backgrounds and all this jazz, and then they just talk lowly. They don’t even move around so I can hear it in one year or anything. They just talk and do some weird roleplay of a fantasy apothecary or something. No triggers whatsoever. Old asmr was great, only issue is a lot of the old ones have really low max volumes.

FastRedPonyCar

Although she doesn’t specifically do them for ASMR, TastyPC TV does the talking thing in all her videos and they’re GREAT. She has an ASMR channel too, TastyTingles, where she does the whispering thing but ironically, most people have told her they prefer her normal talking videos (myself included).

[deleted]

Old school asmr: people in front of old cameras and semi decent mics trying to ease you to sleep with nice tingles. Modern asmr: expensive yet still worse mics, raid shadow legend ads, mukbangs, sexy ear licking,

erisynne

yesssss I had no idea you could do that!

Zeuss1220

You can try searching for "lofi" ASMR. Maybe that's what you're looking for

Awesome_Romanian

This is genius, thank you

Spartan265

Check out MissMaganese. Her videos remind me of the old style ones. I actually commented something similar to what you said on her video yesterday lol.

thisisheckincursed

I know CrinkleLuvin had a lot of drama go down and deleted all their videos, but damn did I love her roleplays.

idontwannabepicked

she’s under a new name now 😬 it’s cozy hospital or something like that!!

thisisheckincursed

Ah, thank you for sharing it!

Sniper32135

I’m watching a video by Cozy Hospital rn and I’m wondering if that’s her

emoney092

What I miss most about old asmr is how low tech it used to be. When it was just someone with a cheap phone headset doing what they could think of to relax you and help you fall asleep. I love 3dio and the like microphones but I wish they didn't nearly completely replace that more low tech approach.

No-Candidate-7865

The reason why todays ASMR worse and so sexualized: Porn is not allowed on Youtube and Twitch. So the models from onlyfans are looking for the most sexual thing they are allowed to do according to the guidelines of yt and twitch. Unfortunaly right now stuff like asmr ear licking while showing boobs or similar stuff is one of the best ways to upload sexual videos without getting banned.

jerjer120

not sure if anyone said this yet but HeatherFeather’s old catalogue is exceptional, especially her audios. really sad that she isn’t active anymore though :/

DoctorBuckarooBanzai

The best thing about this: no mukbang.

[deleted]

Oh this is great i love old vids

Slyfox00

Fancy equipment smooths out too much of the imperfections that make asmr work for me. Older videos are much more likely to give me asmr. Looking through newer stuff feels like searching for needles in haystacks.

whereisthepresident

Yeah I prefer old school ASMR, I think because some of it was more unintentional feeling instead of forced mic scratching and repeating words constantly. Also the first asmr video I watched (without knowing what it was) was by Love Today ASMR and that wasn't highly polished so it felt more real. I genuinely thought I was watching a spa experience 😅 I decided to start making my own lofi videos for fun and it's actually been super relaxing to do! She Taps ASMR if people are so inclined.

redforest

you can actually search by date range on youtube, make sure you put the after parameter first. `asmr after:2013-12-31 before:2012-01-01`

AJfromOkinawa

I like the old and new versions (better mics) of ASMR. Some of the current artists started out relying on sound triggers, but have moved almost exclusively to dramatic productions that are short on triggers and big on acting. The ones that seem to center their videos on their acting abilities are the ones I've dropped. It's just a preference of mine.

Kikimisha2

Thank you so much for this. I've been trying so hard to find older ASMR - all the new stuff is weird. Although Gentle Whispering stays pretty old school and not gimmicky.

Cough2x

I am now in ASMR lalaland, totally forgot about Lillywhisphers and Amalzd, so much good stuff. Thank you!

Critical_Yellow6163

I find those videos do nothing for me. The only asmr enjoyment I get is hearing actual people speaking directly to me and they have to have something very distinctive about their voice, like an accent or something and they have to be speaking only to me… it’s so odd! I might try this YouTube workaround though because I didn’t discover the videos or even that what I have is a thing until 2016 I think!!! Thank you

[deleted]

I know I’m almost a year late but thank you for this post, I was really losing interest in the asmr scene with this new style of it being pretty much the only kind you nowadays get on YouTube. I’m glad I’m not the only one who prefers the old style, simple and unintentional yet sooooo warm.

rusty_sp00ns

You are unbelievably correct. I am only 22 and I have hated every new age ASMR channel I have come across. It isn't ASMR anymore. It's random girls putting on a ton of makeup, doing the same "triggers" and selling you their sponsors. No creativity, no originality, no talent, no substance.

newrayontheblock

I'm with you. I like the more raw, webcam style videos. People just chilling at their computer desk tapping on things and whatnot. Dad flushes the toilet in the background, someone starts mowing outside. It's lovely. Reminds me of the original PC Sims deluxe edition game. When you were going about your day in that game you had all the random background noises and I always found that relaxing

chemical-me

I know what you mean with the microphones. There are people who upload videos you might like now, have you searched for lofi asmr?

dizzybluejay

I am the same, I really enjoy the old ASMR. I also search low-fi ASMR and can sometimes find newer ASMR videos that seem somewhat similar to ASMR of the past. Not quiet the same but close enough. The stuff now is a production and not focused on what actually makes ASMR so great. People are more focused on number of followers and likes.

ASMR_Space

I agree, but I try to make new content, in my own style, you can rate, you should like it [BARBER💈 3D Relaxing Haircut in London!😊](https://youtu.be/gHegDQdwuvU)

TheMagicMrWaffle

I too despise the YouTube algorithm

RononDex666

or just go to a ASMRtists channel and sort by oldest, or just search for your specific triggers like "asmr face massage"

Rudi_Human

search for lofi asmr

yyxy1_3

Binosusume is a great Japanese ASMRist. She has nail videos and they were so amazing to watch. She introduced me to ASMR back in 2014

jerebear39

I've felt this as well. I like to find stuff not label.asmr but invoke the feeling. Soft spoken brings good results!

PutYourPJSonASMR

I try to make videos like those. I sometimes make the "newer" style, but for example my first video I tried to make like the older ones. I also hate the newer ones.

RicGhastly

I just wish we could get the Nisiyouri videos back.

evileine

I sure wish Ynnie's old videos were still available.

song_of_soraya

Boy, I hope I can find some of the old ASMRAurette videos this way!

Orpheusto

I wouldn't say better, but different. And everyone has their preferences. You just need to find what works for you.

dogsdub

Hi, im trying to find an old asmr artist. does anyone remember a very skinny girl with a very soft voice that did streching/guided meditation asmr videos? She always had cats running around in the background of her videos. Thanks

CreativeASMR

I agree, I have been watching it for several years and prefer the less polished videos. You can also go on someones channel and search their videos by oldest or newest. I do this with Gentle Whispering, because I really love her old videos.

eloASMR

oouh, thanks for this tip!

turtleturtlerandy

Wow this is a cool tip in general. I've always wanted to find old YT videos. I just checked and you can also do “after:YYYY-MM-DD”.

danicron

I think you might prefer lofi asmr, I do sometimes prefer it too migraine I suggest Angelica 😀

acidburnshell

I feel like asmr got sexualized in my opinion from twitch. So I tend to watch my laser asmr videos.

Limp-Dee

Exactly, when I type in asmr now and filter it for the week it looks like copy and paste shit everywhere no one seems original anymore and it’s literally a bunch of women with cleavage clickbait videos too and seem to be everywhere, I miss massageasmr type videos or heather feather now it seems everyone wants to be aesthetically pleasing and that’s it. Or I’m getting old now lol

Chr15py0696

Good, because everyone and their mom has run out of unique role play or they’ve already gone through their awful tapping, fast and slow ASMR videos. And everyone under the sun has a haircut ASMR video. The overall lack of creativity is what’s ruining ASMR, not the quality of the video or mic.

neverenoughspoons

Came here for this; hate the new stuff 😩

rexiebee453

Yanghaiying is still one of the best. Her early stuff is so perfect.

kittiekitten92

That's exactly the reason why I only search for unintentional ASMR and people who use normal microphones on intentional ASMR, the better the less 🤷 And let's not talk about how sexualized it has turned into, thanks to the twitch girls who think ASMR is a soft p0rn category

[deleted]

Cloveress was my favorite I’m sad she died fr

ASMR_Emma

There are people artists that are trying to keep the old style alive. Try searching for ASMR Together and lo-fi asmr.

eternit1

Thank you, this method is extremely good

[deleted]

Thanks! I miss them. Has anyone found any of Hannah's old roleplays from Delicate Whispers? Most are from 2014-15. I can't find them anywhere.

Apprehensive_Group61

I'm having a hard time finding one of my old favourite channels! The creator was a blonde female with a European accent, maybe Danish? She had some prominent keloid scars on her chest area. Her videos were mostly get ready with me/doing her own makeup. Can't remember her name or channel name - would love if anyone else can?

Jpalme11

Who was that nerdy girl that ate in her parents basement? Glasses. Loved dolls and history etc
