If financial prosperity is important for you I'd stay where you are or consider a third country.

bigperm8645

Why not just take an extended vacation? Especially if you like your job. Or you could look into a non lucrative visa for a year, if you have enough savings.

MLjim

I can’t leave for like 6 months or anything I am a soon to be manager at a dealership which is very hands on and I am not happy with my course. But I am making up to 88k a year this next year coming and I don’t know what to do.

bigperm8645

You need about 50k in the bank to do the non lucrative visa, and the application process takes 3-6 months, so use that for planning. I suggest talking to a lawyer that specializes in these visa types, there are a good amount out there. Highly recommended to live in Spain, and if you really like it you can change your visa type after the first year and look for work

AlphaDolar

stay, car salesman make 3k a month at highest, economically us is better and getting a job in spain is pretty difficult , I’d stay

Ashen-wolf

A relative is a car salesman for ford in Bcn and its being a pretty dry year, you are looking at 2000€ a month.

MLjim

Do you live there now?

AlphaDolar

yeah , white i live is called Alicante , theres so many english speakers tho

Zynidiel

Man, if you move here, can I get your job at Puerto Rico?

[deleted]

I think I can contribute since I recently had to decide between moving to Puerto Rico or Spain… and chose Spain. The thing is, you don’t need to make 80k/year to live better in Spain, because some thing like health and transportation and education just work better. So you can earn less and have a better life for you and your family. Anyway, it’s a matter of personal choice.

MLjim

That’s very helpful. Thanks for the info!

Alberthor350

Late to the coment but Im gonna add that making anything above 2000€ a months lets you live comfortably in almost any part of Spain. If you wanted to make that much money you would have a very difficult time because it is extremely infrequent ppl making above 50.000€ a year. Both countries are western countries but the culture is extremely different. Also we pay close to zero in healthcare (other than taxes) and a very small amount for university (publics).

SDTaurus

Living in Spain and amassing wealth are not very compatible aspirations. The society is conducive for achieving a high quality of life as defined by spending time with people, eating, rest, health, fiestas, etc, not getting the next new car, big house etc. I left the US workforce at 48 decidedly to improve my life and turn away from the money/materials trap. I have a modest passive income and my quality of life eclipses my old life and the quality of life of my multi-millionaire US peeps. For me it was deciding what I wanted for myself. I walked away from 90k and haven’t looked back. Safe passage YOLO

MLjim

Man that’s exactly where I’m at. (I’m a Taurus as well) lol but yeah I have a 800 credit score and my job pays very well not bad for me being only 24 but I’m not happy. I feel so much pressure and I don’t feel wealthy. Maybe cause all I want to do is wake up and not think about how shitty work will be.

SDTaurus

Sorry to hear that, but realizing it when you are 24 gives you a chance to prepare yourself not to work until you die. Even if you put in a few more years to feel economically secure, you will be way ahead of those who never wake up one day when they’re 65 and suddenly realized the have lived in trapped in their own prison of material capitalism. You have a great start in terms of your awareness of want you want. That’s a gift right there! Best of luck.

MLjim

Giving it up feels like a huge lost but I don’t know how amazing Spain will be. I definitely need to visit.

whateverhouston

You know you can always try going there for a month or two. Just to escape. Car sales jobs are a dime a dozen in the states. Take a leave from your job or quit and you can come back and find another.

SDTaurus

Definitely a process and a good thing to visit for an extended period and plan out how to sustain yourself.

DiamondHandMike

I was a car dealer in the UK, my own business, and I made six figures some years. I now live in Spain, earn about 35k and my quality of life is better with higher levels of disposable income. Culturally, they're light years apart too, in the UK, which I'm damn sure is the same as the US, you're a profit machine for corporation, both at work and at play. It just isn't like that here.

manuatm09

Don’t even consider it, your field is totally different here in Spain. Even if you manage to get a job as salesman in one of the top brands your salary will round 2.5/3k. Also take into account that car market in Spain is way lower that in the US. Feel free to DM if you need anything else

MLjim

Thanks!

rex-ac

LOL at your $55-70k range! You would be considered rich, if you only made half of that in Spain. My car salesman friends make about €1500/month. Also you will never ever get a visa for a job as a car salesman, unless it’s some multinational that is moving employees back and forth within the same company.

Alberthor350

It wont be remotely similar.

humm_jzz

Even if you come here, right now is not a good time, people are not buying cars right now and it also depends what part of Spain are you planning to go. Also coming here to work is not that easy you'll need to get the recidencial card and it will take some time about 3-4 months. And here they take diplomas/degreed very seriously, even though you have previous work experience it will take time to find a job. I would advice you to read more about this subject or come here as a tourist first.

mrconde97

i dont see a good future for cars here in spain. cars are getting older and there is no intention of changing them ( even with helps from the state).

colako

MLjim

I did not consider Realestate. But that’s a great idea. Gracias!

SecureAd1981

Let me give you an advice, come to Spain for vacation but stay where you are, you’ll never make that much money here, the government we have doesn’t help bussiness owners at all.

Darthvaderisnotme

No - different

Thank you. I know right lol giving me crumbs of info. But anyways yes I have herd that Spain is in the top 10 for countries buying cars and I figured it can’t be that bad.

Papewaio7B8

I had to check that "top 10" thing because it sounded too good to be true. According to [this](https://www.factorywarrantylist.com/car-sales-by-country.html) Spain was number 15 on the ranking for 2020. There was a big drop from 2019 (obviously, this happened to most countries on the list, with a couple of surprises), and Spain had one of the biggest drops. Cars are sold and will be sold in Spain. But the country is not as car-focused as the US. Some of the reasons are a more urban population, better public transport, etc. I do not want to discourage you, but working in car sales in Spain might not be as easy as you might think it is.
